You could look at it the other way. Introducing a Caribbean Pirate civ creates demand and impetus to create a Caribbean civ chain with Antiquity Taino and Modern Haiti. The worst part is that the Caribbean is so neglected in the franchise that we’ll very likely never see another civ from the region in Civ7, since they might think the Pirate Republic is enough to represent it.
“Taíno? Haiti? What for? We already have Pirates there.”
Oh man, if only we had a system where one era flows seamlessly to the next era with no issuesI want to as well, the thing I find very off is the pacing. one turn you are playing an Antiquity civ, and the next you skip 1500 years into the future and are now a Pirate Republic!? the game really, really needs a medieval era.
I don't see why we couldn't have pirate mechanics just without the pirate Civilization. Then anyone could be "pirates".On the other hand, it's probably going to have really fun mechanics, and if it's done really well, it could be fun to immerse myself as a pirate king or play in a world where you have the misfortune of needing to negotiate with pirates.

The Antiquity Taíno would feel quite out of place, since their gameplay would fit much better in the Exploration era. Still, I hope you’re right—it’s better to have them this way than not at all.You could look at it the other way. They hand-waved the Age for Khmer and Mississippians, so it wouldn't be unorthodox for Civ 7 for that to happen to others. The Antiquity Taíno would feel quite out of place, since their gameplay would fit much better in the Exploration era. Mechanically, their characteristics suits Antiquity as well as Exploration (not to mention the Batey in Caguana can be an associated Wonder), and could arguably fit Antiquity more. The Caribbean just... doesn't have much else. The Carib and Arawak don't have enough 'material' to really become anything more than Indeps. The Antiquity Taíno would feel quite out of place, since their gameplay would fit much better in the Exploration era. I do think that Arawak>Taino>Haiti would be a more interesting path, but as others have said, I'm not sure how doable the Arawak are. They would also be a good starting point for any South America civ.The Antiquity Taíno would feel quite out of place, since their gameplay would fit much better in the Exploration era. I would be surprised considering the most famous Norse explorer, Leif Erikson, was supposedly born in Iceland. I'll still hope that there would be at least an Antiquity Norse civ, that they could progress into and be the more traditional Viking civ.By that token I would not be too surprised if Iceland was an Antiquity Civilization. I hope it isn't the case (and if it is, I sure hope they rename it to 'Norse'), but Iceland really was a time capsule of Old Norse culture due to centuries of isolation (evidenced by their language which bears a close resemblance to Old Norse, retaining cases, fricatives and complex grammar).
is there a possibility that the Pirate Republic is part of a new crisis in Exploration Age?
10 gold per turn says that Edward Teach & Pirate Republic is a non-player, neutral, exploration only faction a la other 4X neutral pirate factions. Probably taking the 'bonus' slot like the natural & world wonders in the next collection.
+1 to Iceland as Exploration. Iceland was only settled around 900 AD, hardly AntiqueI do think that Arawak>Taino>Haiti would be a more interesting path, but as others have said, I'm not sure how doable the Arawak are. They would also be a good starting point for any South America civ.

If anything, I do think Iceland would probably replace an Exploration Denmark, and it would go Norse>Iceland>Sweden for a Nordic path.
We have Khmer in antiquity, so I'd say time frame is not critically important, it's more about the concept.+1 to Iceland as Exploration. Iceland was only settled around 900 AD, hardly Antique
I’d prefer transitioning into IcelandWe have Khmer in antiquity, so I'd say time frame is not critically important, it's more about the concept.
I suspect there will be 6 and one just wasn't in the game files. I'd guess it's Goths or one of the other ones we have an Antiquity wonder for already.Pirate Republic would be Exploration
Ottomans will be Modern
Tonga presumably Antiquity because of the wonder...
Maori then I would guess is most likely a modern civ to round out a Polynesian chain.
So either Exploration or Antiquity makes the most sense for Iceland. More likely exploration as it leaves Norse open for Antiquity I'd guess.
Since there are 5, and the Pirates are the weird one of the bunch. Maybe Tonga, Iceland, Ottomans, Maori as the pack with Pirates as a free gift?
Hmm... I've been saying the DLCs didn't have enough content to justify the price, so I wouldn't be opposed to that.I suspect there will be 6 and one just wasn't in the game files. I'd guess it's Goths or one of the other ones we have an Antiquity wonder for already.
