I guess the bright side is that you can buy the leaders and civs piecemeal if you don't want the whole pack. You're not obliged to take Pirate Republic in order to get Iceland or Ottomans or whatever.
Darling... if they ship in the same package, you'll have to take the Pirates and Iceland if you also want the Ottomans. You cannot have Britain in this game without also having Carthage, Nepal and Bulgaria.

You can disable the Civs you don't like individually, but that requires you to have the pack that includes them in the first place.

Bulgaria is a GREAT choice, and I stand by that. Thank you Night Terrors or whatever the Vampire SS was called to make it happen.
It's the Sanguine Pact. It was a joke considering I think Bulgaria got in on its own merits. :D

The pirate thing could kinda work if they let you keep your civ name/icon/city names/architecture/unit culture upon era change like so many have suggested here AND the ai leaders always make that choice when they pick the pirates. So that the pirates are really just a specific toolkit selection for the era

Actually they're a perfect example of how you could do Civ evolution rather than Civ switching... If Civ7 was all about that then they'd be an amazing fit.

Well, Romans fighting pirates is a foundational moment for western civilization as it is so neatly tied to the republic becoming an empire. That’s good enough by itself to switch from Romans to Pirates in an alternative universe in which the Romans didn‘t succeed against the pirates in the med, no?
I can only agree with the last word of your post 🫠

The Mediterranean and Caribbean are both seas, so in that regard the Roman>Pirate Republic logic fits to some people. :dunno:

This is the kind of stretch that inspires me to do Yoga

Pirate Republic starts with P
R is two letters after P
Rome starts with R

Great Britain on its own: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3087300/?snr=1_5_9__205

I don't think that this is true? DLC pack components seem to be available individually on steam.

I know Pirate Republic is going to be absurd to most no matter how you slice it but it's another example of where a medieval age could be helpful.

The Normans transitioning to a Pirate Republic would actually make some decent sense but instead they'll have to exist simultaneously
That's the big question of what Antiquity civ would they transition from? The only other thing I can think of is they don't have any geographical/historical unlocks and just gameplay unlocks by pillaging and plundering naval trade routes.
Or Carthage and Aksum are naval based, so therefore they automatically unlock to them by default. :crazyeye:

I think you'll just have to acquire 3 parrot resources...

Wouldn't be surprised if they added those in as a resource that appeared on tropical vegetated tiles.
They'd also fit with the Polynesian civs.

Now this has me thinking… what on earth could the Pirate Republic traditions be?
Pillage, Plunder, Steal, Parley!, and always obey the Pirate Code.

There's no Camel units in the game currently, right?

I noticed that there is a list of combat animations for camels in the game files. BLOB_Camel_death_01 for example.

EDIT1: I suppose this could be for the Menagerie? I'm seeing other animals with death animations like foxes and giraffes. There are 10 sound effects for Camels

EDIT2: Fight Pit improvement? Sounds kind of piratey.

EDIT3: I've also seen several references to an Icehouse improvement. Maybe it's a thing or just just art for blizzards

EDIT 4: And a Royal Encampment improvement. Maybe a discoverable?

EDIT5: I see Pitch was supposed to be or will be a future resource

EDIT6: There are files for the Great Library
