Hi there, first post but long-time reader. So i subscribed to the steam civ 5 basic enhancements pack (NOT the full CBP, too much new stuff to learn) hoping primarily to get the enhanced AI and that toggle-able thing. i can't quite tell if it's actually qorking or not though, and i cant find where you enable things. should all but the optional item apply automatically? will it apply on a game in-progress? the AIs did seem to start getting stronger, but i thought it might just be coincidence since were hittin high medieval. in the very base mode, are there still alterations other than just the ai? do they get bonuses with city state public quests upon entering a new era (hell, is that a thing in regular)? some folks just hit renaissance era and now im suddenly waaaaaay behind in faith when just a few turns ago they were only ahead by less than 100 (20 turns to go, doubling my faith over the next 5 turns or so); i cant figure out where the hell this faith coulda come from since nobody has reliquary, god of war or pictic warriors. anyway lets end that tangent, back to making sure it all worked since ive seen steam cause weirdness with this kinda stuff before. i did try starting a new game to check it out, havent run into a lot of civs yet but one just blatantly ignored a bunch of awesome city spots right north of him with his settler... do they still do that, or could it be outta sorts? i am running steam in offline mode now, but i dont see why on earth that would cause any problems... thanks for reading this longer-than-intended verbosity, ill be staring at my computer screen refreshing every 30 seconds or so until i get a reply

If you are running only (1) Community Patch, then you should not see any new VP features (units, corpos, events, etc.) and balance changes. The game should look the same as vanilla. But the bugs are fixed, AI works better, etc. It's all internal.

One easy way to make sure Community Patch has been activated is to look at catapults. Even in just the regular CP, they have the extra move cost in enemy territory promotion. If catapults still have the must set up to attack promotion instead, then you don't have CP activated (at least one that's even close to up to date.)

thanks infixo, i read it makes them better at war, whatever that means... can you think of something in particular i could look for such as the ai not settling really dumb cities, kamikazeing/retreating troops for no reason, etc.?
wait, what... that sounds terrible! what if your enemy has great wall? not to mention, doesnt this obsolete the logistics promotion? or does it merely increase the cost of terrain. oh, nvm obviously thats what it does. i don't see what was wrong with the setup to move thing, you could still move and shoot defensively as long as ya set up your roads right. gonna make large wars against large cities a real pain in the butt it seems. ill try it, but i dont think ill like it... course i dont usually use that many siege units anyway, not like the ai can fight you off even without em. edit: well panda i started a new medieval era game and built one, still had setup to fire. anybody play on steam with tips on how to enable this patch? i am running steam on a flash drive, ill check some folders and see if maybe it installed into the wrong place

Geez, @Zeusinator, I don't want to be mean, but reading your message was a torture! :) Would you compose your thoughts a little before writing a message?

If the siege units still need to set up for you, this means that Community Patch is not activated.

It works the same way as any other mod from Steam, you subscribe to it, then in the MODS screen ingame you activate it and click Next (not Back!!!, you don't start the game from the main menu).

If for some reason this doesn't work for you, you can download and run the autoinstaller from the install thread in this forum and then just chose the option to install only Community Patch when prompted.

I did not understand the beginning of your message, but if you are asking what CP does, it makes the AI smarter = they protect the vulnerable units, they are able to attack at multiple fronts, they don't suicide-embark units as the vanilla AI, they are able to move and shoot with their archers, etc., etc.

I'd highly recommend the whole Vox Populi, you will love it. It is only installable by the autoinstaller though (you will need to unsubscribe from the Steam version of Community Patch first, otherwise they will conflict).

1. ah, i apologize. i often forget how hard it is to read modern technoenglish (or "horribly improper", whichever you prefer), particularly when english isnt your first language.
2. yes, i was wondering what exactly CP did to enhance the AI's tactics. just the kind of examples i was looking for.
3. i do like the idea of the full mod, but it changes way too many elements of the game. i dont want to have to relearn the whole game haha!
4. is the basic mod compatible with existing vanilla saves, or do i always have to start a new game?

2) Simple example. AI's naval units are able to move and fire the same turn (a bug in vanilla usually prevented them to do so).
3) I understand. Vox Populi is mostly a new game using Civ 5 mechanics.
4) Probably not compatible.
