[NFP] August Update Video Thread

I really liked the shuffled tech/civc tree, at least the game progression over the ages will be less monotonous. The wonder picker is cool as well, apparently they heard people's complaints about those fantasy wonders.

As well as "I have played the game for X hours but only met X wonder once!"

That is indeed correct. I'd rather have that than this, but I guess it was too hard within the frame of the engine?
Yeah, I imagine it would have to be set up that way from the beginning. To the wrath of the speed min/max people, I imagine.

Like so many others commenting here; first thing I thought when I saw the Nat Wonder picker - If Firaxis don't give us the Civ equivalent there will be hell to pay!! :mischief: :D

Loving both new options Firaxis!!

They made the mistake of building it in an exposed tile, so I quickly bought as many tiles around it as possible and got adjacency bonus on their government plaza. :D
That's hilarious!

Yeah seeing the AI build the gov. plaza as a frontier outpost is so dumb...happens everytime, it further shows that the game could really use a Castle/Citadel improvement for this purpose exactly.

You mean like an Encampment, or a Fort?

I've gotten use out of that loyalty bonus before when aggressively forward settling. Quite a few times, actually.

Yeah I can see that being useful if on Lakes map you aggressively forward settle a place with a lot of trees to chop, but in that case your GP will be up quite a few turns later and your early-mid game expansion is hindered a bit. The loyalty problem is usually not that serious as you will have Magnus in that city for a while anyway and you will soon settle cities nearby.

It would be nice to have it for city-states. Not that I want to overload the map with scientific city-states or anything, I just want to ensure there are at least one of every type of CS when I play.

Yeah, I always wondered why there wasn't a balanced distribution to begin with.

Am I the only dissapointed?

Literally no new content was added, no issue was addressed and no deep change made. This seems much smaller than the previous free update, a minor mod-like feature a single person probably implemented in a week...

Waiting for the "let's make the AI optional" considering that's the number one complaint I've seen all over. :mischief:

Well we don't know everything yet considering we have to wait for the patch notes.

... you do know this isn't a major patch right? You gotta wait till STEPEMBER. This is a minor patch- like the one in July. And we've got a lot- Natural wounder pick and new free game mode. What did you expect? New civ?

New content, important issues and deep changes would not be hidden on patch nodes.

Montly free patches were advertised. Previous free patch includded new content.

Should we expect when they advertise free updates to be released every month with balances and new exciting features... that they will be using the less posible effort and be happy about it?

I expected, old time problems of the game to be addressed, major balance fixes and new content like the previous patch. What a bout a new replay feature like previous games? or a new trebuchet siegue unit? or improvements in the UI, or tweaks on religion or WC? Anything would be something.

I'm hyped as hell.

No new content? Yes there is. The random research mode for everyone.

No issue was addressed? Just in that short video they're addressing two things: forest fire balance and people complaining about the fantasy wonders.

No deep change? What are you expecting? This is a free patch, not dlc.

If firaxis would have said a good number of AI improvements would have been written down in the next patch notes i would be glad. Right now there is not much to discuss about. Other then deselecting national wonders is nice. And randomized trees creates a different civ experience. Seems nice. Bit it is a bit light if everything else disappoints.

A shufle function of the tech tree is not new conted is shuffled old content.

This is smaller than many regular free patches before NFP.

Again, montly updates were advertised as significant, previous update had significant content. And they pretend that they are releasing the features that the community asks for.

Sorry, but this is a zero effort patch, and is not what they advertised.

You didn't address any of my points. You can't gatekeep what the term "content" means.

I swear some of you guys are never satisfied. The last free patch people were complaining about too and now it was significant?

Is not gate keeping, is what the use of the term in the industry means. Recycled content is not considered new content in the media; this cannot be considered new content except for the laziest interpretation imaginable of the term.

The laziest interpretation imaginable is something that personally disappoints me. I expected more than the minimum possible effort. If you did not, I am happy for you

I swear some of you guys are never satisfied

Its called having standards.

Again, if you think the video presented any significant addition to the game, Im happy for you. To me, this does not reflect the kind of content a big company should release. Or the kind of content they advertised, or the kind of content released in the previous free patches.

I call this lazy, and I think In general, they are showing so far that they are putting much less resources in the DLC than in an expansion of similar prize. And I think we should not be satisfied with receiving less quality, less care, and less stuff

That is all I wanted to say.
