Augustus (Imperium Maius)

Augustus-Imperium-Maius-Leader-Screenshot-1080p-Resized.jpg

Emerging from Rome's civil wars, Augustus consolidated the fractious republic into an empire stretching from the North Sea to Egypt. Despite the Roman fear of tyrants, he achieved sole power while outwardly maintaining the old republic's structures. He expanded Rome's borders via client states and a reorganized army, reformed the tax code, and inaugurated the imperial cult. The modern image of Imperial Rome is largely the one of Augustus' vision.

this feels like a leader i’d tend towards. versatile with a culture leaning.

One thing I haven’t seen people mention much is the fact that Culture is now important for conquest, as much as if not more than science. The Settlement Cap is apparently raised with certain civics, so you can’t just ignore culture for Production/Science development and expect to retain a large empire. Seems like a good change, and Augustus plays towards that.

is this an adaptation of loyalty?

Seems like it. Maybe a cross between Civ VI and Civ V loyalty/happiness mechanics. If you settle over the cap, you get happiness penalties in all your cities, and if you don’t have enough happiness buildings/resources in a city to overcome those penalties, then that city would be liable to rebel/flip/secede/whatever*

*based on my understanding of what I’ve read so far. But it’s a big game of telephone at times

Auggie looks alright. Well, play wise, that is. 🙃

i seriously hope theres some adjustments. idk, the proportions of a lot of the chara models feel off. The models don't look very aesthetically pleasing either.

He looks like a massive geek. 😂

This may look like a OOC design, but that interpretation doesn't make a lot of sense in the context of Civ 7.

This seems to promote expansionism by granting extra bonuses to towns which are not available to other leaders. Towns apparently can count towards gaining an advantage in culture (it's not clear to me whether towns do not contribute to culture by default, or if you usually need to build culture buildings with production but Augustus can do it with gold). And we already know city cap is attached to culture.

Edit: So the more towns you build/conquer as Augustus, the faster you'll be able to convert them into cities. No?

I'm thinking that Augustus would suit a very wide playstyle with settled/conquered towns and cities plenty.

How do you figure? I thought the way to turn a town into a city was to spend Gold.

I guess insofar as he can buy buildings in Towns cheaper and that makes Towns generate more Gold?

I would assume towns can still provide culture but the sources are fairly limited because you normally can only build just the very basic buildings there.

I meant because you can generate culture faster and thus lift the city cap faster. But it's not clear to me at this point how exactly that works. Ed Beach did say increasing City Cap is one of the main benefitis of the culture tree.

And I assume their leader designs will still be thematically aligned with their respective Civs. Rome gets even more benefits from towns, and even more increase to the City Cap from culture in its unique civic tree.
