I'm wondering what the Aussies here think re Australia's new colours? @bite @Ferocitus etc etc (invite the others lol)

I think the old colours were better for Australia. Here I just see House Atreides from Dune

It instills fear, the little death, in the other civs so it's Ok by me.

Not Australian but in general I couldn't care much about which civ gets which color. What I do care about is that there are now quite a few civs with very simular colors. Makes especially the mini map rather hard to read.

Pretty sure you mean Ordos. Mapuche is more the color of Atreides ;-)
At least, if you're talking about Dune 2: The building of a dynasty ... the game that started my PC gaming addiction 25+ years ago, lol

I do believe the uniform colors of Atreides are (partially) green in the novels, though. Maybe you were referring to that, and I'm a pedantic idiot :p

There is a mod (that doesn't seem to interfere with any others)
which reduces the size of the blips on the mini-map. Look for
Smaller Map Blip in the modding forums.

Yeah, I'm a book snob, so you can always assume that's what I'm talking about :p
I'm pretty sure that this here flag is book accurate. I could be wrong lol...it's been a long time since I read them.

A runny brown colour would suit all of the houses in Dune III and
    subsequent rubbish.

I would assume so as well. Green/Gold is much more pronounced, in any case. Maybe the gold border would interfere with too many of the other civ's colours? There is a lot of yellow and white running around. Perhaps it was a clarity issue.

I didn't really understand the vanilla orange, to begin with, by the way. I don't know if AUS has a specific connection to the color orange, but, since they must have known that Netherlands was going to be added, it must have always been a temp color for AUS.
Ooooh! Wiki wars! I would have conceded to the book snob argument, but bringing wiki sources into the mix brings the game to an entire new level ;-)
http://dune.wikia.com/wiki/House_Ordos --> official canon "The Dune Encyclopedia" indirectly states house Ordos' colours also to be green :D

My colour blindness took it as close enough to Australian gold :shifty: Really though...their idea of gold is often quite yellow, so I think they created a rod for their own back there!
But yah - orange was always going to belong to the Netherlands first n foremost, so it's odd they gave something like it to anyone else. I wouldn't say Australia has any strong connection to orange.

    From your article:

'House Ordos first appeared in The Dune Encyclopedia, but is never mentioned in any of the novels. However it does figure prominently in the Dune game series released by Westwood Studios.'

    i.e. Who cares! :p ;)
I'm worse with Game of Thrones by the way. The TV show can go die n a ditch as far as I'm concerned :mischief:

Agreed... It's understandable that they started melding a few characters together, but the last couple of seasons, things started to get a little silly. And since George R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R. Martin doesn't seem to have any plans to actually write the rest of the novels before he gets a stroke, I fear the show is all we're going to have for the conclusion

I'd rather he didn't finish it, and we could speculate; than that he rushes it and messes it up. The brilliant depth in it needs to be coaxed out. Maybe he'll hand it over to the Swedish couple who collaborated with him on 'The world of Ice n Fire'.

    Bygones!

The green and "gold" features prominently in this search:

Orange and white are colours frequently used in aboriginal art, due to their "natural" hue:

    Spoiler :

I think gold and white would have been a great alternative for Australia if they wanted to avoid crossing over with other civs.

As for black and green, lord knows, maybe it was derived from this:

I'm not Australian but make the old primary color the secondary color.
It looked a little golden to me.

Sure, yet it seemed to many that Australia in VI was very much built around the modern nation. Of course that doesn't mean they can't tip their hat to the Aborigines, so that would make sense :)
