Austria UA is very unique and let's discuss the coffee house as well I think the coffee house is replacement for one of the new buildings we don't know yet and bonus some gold and food and possibly culture.

That would be sort of neat if coffee houses gave you a coffee luxury instead of happiness.

Ha, that'd be awesome. Yeah, I don't know, Austria's ability is certainly interesting, but I'm not too interested IN IT. Ethiopia's ability is awesome, so are The Celt's, The Dutch ability is great, too, and the Swedish ability is VERY interesting to me, from what I know of it.

Since you can buy coffee absolutely everywhere and Austria isn't the only place with those coffee houses, that would be very strange. I guess the thing with the Austrian Coffee Houses is their "Intangible Cultural" significance, so it'll probably give culture, perhaps some happiness and gold. Perhaps it's a Garden replacement. Or it's a replacement for a building we don't know yet, as the OP suggested. I only hope it's not an Opera House replacement...

I'm interested in the fact that the Hussars unit icon shows him shooting a pistol/rifle from horseback. Maybe Hussars will be ranged cavalry/lancer replacements? Which would be kind of interesting if Austria had a renaissance/industrial era ranged mounted unit, that would set them apart from the other civs in that era.

Unlikely, all gunpowder units are melee. Cavalry units in game already have rifles. I don't see why hussars would be ranged...

A 3 movement ranged Cavalry unit could be fun, more like a poor mans Keshik but stronger.

For sure! I am not arguing against the "un-fun-ness" of a ranged cavalry unit, only against the likelihood of it.

Austria seems very interesting to me, with the Hussar unique unit it could either be used as a Lancer replacement, representing the Napoleonic Wars, or the Cavalry replacement, representing World War I. I think they will go with the Cavalry replacement since focus seems to be put on World War I units

I am a tiny bit concerned over their UA, does it count as aggression towards city-states? I wouldn't think so, but well, you never know.

NO

WHen 2K member was interviewing denis at the pax one of the question where can you conquer a city state withouth penalty?

And then he said yes and then he started about austria's unique ability.

I don't think how many people realize how retardedly strong Austria is going to be for a domination victory. The ability to annex or puppet cities halfway across the world on different continents is super strong.

and is it's great:D but but it says it the city-state has to be ally and give gold. and the gold is probably like 1500:c5gold:

Perhaps the acquired City State does not vote at the UN.

It probably does, but that is one of the things that they could do. After that, it may not be so great for a diplomatic victory. It could be more about securing regular access to the resources than about UN votes.

We don't yet know how much gold, though.

That being said, that ability is very Austrian. If you look at a map of Habsburg holdings, they're all over the place.
