Automerging of posts?

So when I post an essay or something that is quite long, it isn't going to merge the two posts if I decide to break it up into to posts?
Depends on the length of your essay... It will merge if the two posts combined is below the max character per post limit.

That's quite neat.
It will help reduce spam.
EDIT: Hehehe it worked!
hehe... I love this hack. It doesn't affect forum performance at all too. :)

This would be a huge pain if you were trying to reserve posts for something like a library thread or a thread you antcipate will become long and disorganized :(

Otherwise it's a great feature. :goodjob:

You see a "last edited by"? I don't!
I don't see a last edited by thing but I think it changed the time of your post
(or am I hallucinating :hmm: )

just testing to see if I'm going insane

EDIT: Nope, I'm not insane it changed the time of my post to the time to when I edited it :hmm:
I think a "last edited by" would be better

K, but that could lead to some weird paragraph and sentence structures if it only merges after the pre-defined word limit is surpassed...like in mid sentence. Or does it look at the total overall and if it knows that the next post is going to go over the limit it just doesn't merge any of the post instead of part of it until it reaches the word limit. (I hope that made sense) Heck...I'll just try it...

No, it will not split a post. It's either merge or no merge.

It does come with a kind of "exploit" - when posts are merged, you get a new grace period wherein you can edit it without getting the "last editted by" line. This means as long as your post is the last in the thread and it's no more than an hour old, you can post something new, get it merged, edit the post, remove the new stuff and edit the old, thus getting a "free" edit. The post date is of coures updated.

It also reduces accidental double posts and its a quicker way to add information to a post. I guess it really needs to be applied to only certain forums though as there are some forums where posters have a need to reserve posts for later use.

Well ok, it helps if you are too lazy to hit the edit button, but it hinders you if you plan to setup your posting carefully, so it is better to read - rather a bug than a feature. It also hinders you from keeping wide screenshots seperate from your text. So again, it stops you from posting in a way that is easier to read for others.

This new feature is awsome, and seems perfectly adapted to my spamtastic posting rate :p

There is a side effect in that one cannot bump a thread. There's one topic I was really hoping to get American input on, but there were zero replies... and I cannot bump into back onto the front page for a second chance. Darn.

:bump:

Even as a spammer ( :p ), I must say I am impressed and glad.

Shocking...

It will only merge posts if the last posted post is posted within an hour by the poster. If it's newer than one hour, posts will be merged and the thread will be bumped.

So you can still :bump:

this is getting extremely annoying. I am not spamming, and it ads on and on, when they are delibraty supposed to be seperate. the mafia game (and other games)will never be the same:(

Can this ridiculous feature be turned off? It's annoying as hell. If I want 1 post, I make 1 post. If I want 2, I make 2.
I don't think I will ever understand the idea of (auto)-deciding for another. Most posters here are still human beings with functioning brains, and thus can decide for themselves what they post.
I do realise I am oversensitive when people misquite me, put words in my mouth, or claim to know/understand my opinion, when they don't.
But this really feels like it.

And then please get rid of the ten character nonsense as well.

This is only ridiculous and nonsensical fr your point of view.
