Avatar

I watched the movie on the first day and I loved it, eventhough I had a slight head ache after watching the movie.

About this whole debate, I thought the Na'avi represented the native Americans and Humans, the European/American settlers, unobtainium could be compared to the gold rush.

I don't know about other things, but the movie was visually spectacular. And its a must watch for people who like to see larger than life themes in Cinema.

I saw the movie last week and overall I'd say it was pretty cool, and worth seeing for the excellent visual effects, and the great 3-D.
As others have mentioned, the plot was somewhat lame and predictable , and the main villain was so over-the-top ridiculous that I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised to see him take a big bite of charred Navii baby and say "mmmm...tastes like chicken". I really liked Sigourney Weaver's character though, and I thought both she, and the guy who played the main character played their respective roles well.

As regards the argument about the relationship of the popularity of a product to it's quality, I agree to some extent with Mobboss that there can be a correlation between how popular a product is, and the product's quality. However, I would say that marketing of products can, and very often does, dramatically inflate the popularity of products relative to how good they are, and as such there are many examples out there of products that are extremely popular, but are crap.

Well I saw it and I liked it. It gets of to a slow start but its needed to show how and why he became a traitor. And the ation was nice if unrealistic. Seriously glass that can be penetrated by arrows? Gunships that can be tossed around by flying lizards? Fail humanity, fail.

But it was still good. And that general was a real dick.

Are you sure you weren't the one playing him?

It is a possibility that I inspired his character. Though I in my vastly superior intelligence would have simply have cluster bombed the hell out of the genera area of that holy tree from orbit using that big space shuttle instead of flying into an unknown area where radar and such wouldn't work. Foolishness on his part.

In this context, that's if you assume artworks like movies render similar service to everyone, just like simple commodities such as washing machines. Evidently not.

Your names are so similar, I thought you two were the same person for a long time apparently

I need to turn avatars on it seems.

Well it passed $600 million. Guess the sequels are guaranteed now.

I haven't seen it, and I probobly won't see it. Is the plot any good, or is it just good because of the state of the art grapics?

But, all movies that gross $600 million or more haven't become sequels. We'll just wait and see.

Cameron did it just to push the limits of movie technology. I'd no more expect to see a sequel for this than there's been one for his "Titanic" movie:

No, wait--

The new tech is its big feature. As you can see from the posts above, the plot is "good" but not "great." Your call.

The characters were all good too. I seemed to have enjoyed the hot Na'vi babe more than most folks. The majority of attempts by Hollywood to portray a kick-ass babe fail, but this babe really kicks ass! :)

Oh brother. So what...."Return of the Corporate Sponsor," and "Unobtainium Obtained"

Really?

Was there a sequel to Titanic?

No, but this is an original series and he said he'd make a trilogy if the first made enough money.

(And holy crap. You're almost at 30k posts. :goodjob:)
