AZ-06: Jolly Roger

I'm not sure how it happened, maybe something to do with the river, but our winery seemed to be magically connected, since cites had wine after I built the winery, so I didn't bother pointing it out.

I think we can make it to Louis without entering ocean. I remember being able to get a workboat into the northwest corner of his territory while I was exploring, but passed because we didn't have OB.

I think the incense is a fine spot for the next city. It'll be low maintenance, and reasonably good (compared to the alternatives, at least).

I'm 99% sure you can also cut in from (eyeballing it) 3N 4W of Orleans into the northwest corner of his territory at 2N 3W.

Sorry... :hammer2: I'm in painkillers ( because of a genetic reumathoid disease that gives me lots of pain when the weather gets more moistured :( ) and they make people to lose concentration ( and  ). But that means that France is a viable immediate target ( after the 10 turns period ) .... and I'm betting that they'll try to settle that island North of Orleans, not making a lot more of defenders. OTOH we shold not loose focus: willem wants lib too ( if he didn't he would had gone for Guilds...) and because of that any war should be delayed until we got it ( and astro )

Ahoy, me make Ob with England. Trade routes be big in this game.

Turn 1: Louis gets s GSpy. Trade pigs for sil'er t' Willem.

Turn 2: Education -> Liberalism. I will research it t' 1 turn from completion, then switch t' somethin' else.

Turn 3: Raidin' party sails towards France.

Turn 6: Settler sails off t' found a city on Birka Island.

Turn 7: Buddhism FIADL.

Turn 8: Louis gets a GS. Me can finally declare on the old wighead, and do so. It may not be a great attack force but at least we should be able t' pillage many cottages. Research switched t' Astronomy.

I did some pillagin' in France but we want t' construct a real in'asion fleet once Astronomy arri'es t' verily conquer France once and for all. Willem fell t' 3rd on the chart, none o' the AIs have Education yet. Perhaps do Engineerin' first, build berserkes+trebs and then go nuts.

after France we have to conquer the dutch. despite falling score, they are tremendous in the late game so we must target them before dikes come online for them.

I'll play it tomorrow unless Indebil plays it first.

turn 0: Isn't Tonsburg incorrectly placed? It's not a big deal, but I think it should have gone 1NW to get the plains hill.

Trade compass to Isabella for literature + 150 gold
Also trade corn for fur

I think astronomy is a somewhat dubious tech choice (should have just finished off liberalism and picked it), but since beakers are already in, I'll finish it. Maybe scientific method with liberalism will be good.

turn 4: Lizzy gets education. Time to finish off liberalism. Guess I'll take nationalism for it.

turn 7: we get another great merchant. I'll save him for now
Spoiler :

turn 8: Louis starts building catapults to strike back on the raiders.
Spoiler :

turn 9: and the reinforcements arrive.
Spoiler :

From here, I think we can finish off Louis, just grind down his defenses with those catapults, and bring in another load of berserkers. He's building catapults, so expect losses.

Raze his second city, it's badly positioned. It needs to move southeast to get the stone in the BFC.

Just to be sure, his second city is Paris because 1 SE would have stone? We should keep the one with great library, but move Paris 2E 1S or 2S 1E to get stone and not found it on the pigs?

Oops. Paris is the capital. Well balls. I didn't check, but if he has good wonders, then keeping Paris might be the way to go. If there's nothing there of interest, move it 1S 2E

I assumed such an ill-positioned and downright crappy city couldn't be the capital when I was writing the final notes from memory.

got it, but may not be able to play until the weekend, so if someone wants to go ahead of me, go ahead

By the way, I forgot to explicitly ask for advice on the great merchant that's chilling in the capitol.

I think he will offer banking (or economics if he can't), both of which might be good choices. I forget if economics will obsolete anything important.

A trade mission is another option - we would build a frigate shortly anyways, which would relieve the need for the caravel to escort the galleys, and send him off with that, but it might delay the benefit too long.

Here is the tech bulb preferences of the GM, with some side notes:
Spoiler :
Currency
Banking when we research Guilds ( will bulb it completely )
Economics if we hold the GM until having Banking ( will bulb roughly half of it )
Corporation
Metal Casting
Code of Laws
Mining
Constitution What we have in game ATM (1152 :science: )
The Wheel
Alphabet
Pottery
Sailing
Paper
Railroad
Industrialism
Monarchy
Civil Service
Guilds
Fascism
Mass Media
Agriculture
Writing
Mathematics
Printing Press
Flight
Machinery
Replaceable Parts
Satellites
Mysticism
Priesthood
Divine Right
Nationalism
Calendar
Scientific Method
Medicine
Horseback Riding
Compass
Steam Power
Future Tech

So IMHO, we should finish Guilds to bulb banking..... Economics is a good tech for this kind of maps ( opens FM ... 1 extra trade route and enables custom Houses, that give a nice boost to intercontinental trade routes.... only thing that Eco obsoletes is Castles.... I doubt that will miss them  ), but requires waiting for +/- 10 turns for a half-bulbed tech.... not good.

I can do it tomorrow or Friday, if you can play before then go for it.

Edit: Looks like Friday, got it for then
