Hi

I just wanted to ask which AI Leaders are especially backstabbers.
I also heard that there are some leaders which declare on pleased
I thought everyone could do that not only some of them, still a list of pleased-->DoWers would be nice.
Also is there some contrast to those leaders meaning
they only declare on annoyed or furious (not on cautious or above).

In the war academy on the front page (select 'home' next to 'my account' above) you see the strategy articles section on Civ IV. It is on the right. (edit: And with 'on the right' I mean left, obviously) There you can find the reference documents you need. It details which civs will and shich ones will not declare at pleased.

One side detail, any civ can declare on friendly. The catch is that the AI will start planning a war, and later it will declare. No AI will start planning a war at friendly relations. However it is very possible that an AI will start planning a war against you at pleased relations, then later when relations go up to friendly the AI declares.

While there are artices, IMO watch out for Surv and Wilem. Surv likes to harass me a lot , especially in my current game where he managed to somehow block me from copper and iron (I had to culture bomb to get one and then upgrade everything as fast as I could. Also bear in mind that I started at a pretty bad spot with few resources, but I've managed to make lemonade.) Even after giving him some tribute, since I was in a very bad position, he declared war on me at pleased (I got lucky in repelling him). Eventually I could return the favor with the help from Augustus (Thanks for leaving all those wonder-rich cities poorly defended!) I could repay the favor.

Wilem is a master in a different kind of warfare. He seems to get along with everybody, and you do not want to be his neighbor. You will find that he is a major patron of the arts and your boundaries seem to creep closer to your cities. But getting civs to declare war on the dutch is a pain. My two cents.

Oh yeah, don't trust Monty either. Watch out for him early game, but you will find that he is a joke as a scientist.

Catherine is the one leader who can be bribed into war against someone she's Friendly with, so never trust her.

Is the War Academy reference articles always right? In my recent game Monty was pleased with me when he went WHEOOHRN and a few turns later DOWed me. I didn't think he declared unless Annoyed. He was at Cautious with Mehmed who was the only other known civ, so I don't think he was bribed.

The biggest ones to watch out for are the troop spammers that DtDW (decide to!). Ragnar is a particular bastard I find. He's like a 5 year old in charge of an empire and his servants took away his toys. There are many factors that contribute to the power rating, but the one good thing about him is that he has a pretty low threshold for a cease fire. So even if he comes at you with a huge stack, just defend then call it a day. He'll probably pick on somebody else just in those 10 turns... the bastard.

She needs to be friendly with the AI making the bribe. So, if she's pleased or worse with everyone else, then I think that you are OK.

Nope, Monty declares at Pleased (without bribe). (I found out the hard way playing Roosevelt on Earth18).
