PekkaM
Warlord
Started playing the Romans on noble level duel map with me + 7 civs to try experimenting on early praetorian win.
I founded Rome, started building fishin boat (clams nearby) and researching bronze working, wheel and iron working. When Rome was size 3 I built worker that chopped two trees to build settler that moved a little distance to found another city on stone resource next to iron. Built a mine and road + barracks to my cities and just one turn before I had my first praetorian ready, the American border swallows up my iron mine
By this time I was thinking about restarting but instead decided to give it a try and started to build up my culture to reclaim the mine. Rome built Stonehenge and Oracle and I also founded Confucianism (my first religion, I also got Taoism and Islam later).
By the time I had my Iron back and decent stack of praetorians, all my neighbourgs except Tokugawa were my fellow Confucianists so I decided to try my new army on Tokugawa. I captured his capital and his empire was gone and I got my third victory city.
Later I also founded fourth city and "helped" the Greek and the Mongols against Americans by capturing their softened up capital to end up with five cities.
After I had spreaded all my known five religions to all my cities and built temples + cathedrals in the three top city I first noticed that I actually might be able to get cultural win.
So I started to build riflemen all I could and delayed my cultural switch until I got infantry. I put my three top cities on culture production, flipped culture to 100% and had the two cities start build infantries.
Not too long after that Alexander and Genghis started war on me and were sending tanks to my border. I had few close calls but managed to destroy enough of their troops to get them agree to cease fire. Immediately after cease fire ended they attacked again. Finally I got great artist to bring my third culture city to legendary status from 71000 points and won in 1989.
That got pretty wild towards the end. I didn't know that AI attacks you so viciously if your troops are outdated. Or was this caused by nearing cultural victory? Would it be possible to get cultural victory without "turning the switch"?
