Ever since I heard of this strange phenomenon, I've always wanted to learn more about it. It's just so cool; a ball of electricity that hovers around, rolls across the floor, or chases the wings of bombers, and explodes! Or, I've heard of it ricocheting around between cattle before, and also of having killed many people.
Yet, we don't know too much about this. I found this neat article on it, courtesy of Wikipedia; but I have read this same information elsewhere as well, I know how many people don't take Wiki seriously.

Okay, to round it out, here's a photo, documented proof that such a thing exists.

I believe it does exist, but I'm kind of skeptical that the photo is proof (especially with the power lines being there).

Isn't ball lightning just plasma or ionised gas? Plasma can act very strangely.

There are more pictures, this is just the one that I picked.

Does anyone else get that cold feeling down their back when they see this picture? I don't know what I would do if I looked over and saw a floating ball of electricity next to my leg.

I would touch it and become Captain Lightning, and go around defending truth, justics, and the American Way. Or perhaps energy independence.

I've heard it can pass through walls without leaving a mark, which (if true) means it's a ball of light that doesn't produce heat.

But it also can kill people. It killed a famous Russian scientist, and is marked as responsible for killed 68 people in a Devonshire Church.

The page link says it's some sort of self-sustaining megnetic field that makes if hover, but that is might be a ball of plasma, which is why it can just vanish into thin air, sometimes with an explosion. It's just so cool!

The wiki link says 4 people died, 60 injured. And the description of the russian scientist sounds more like a lightning strike to me. It's possible that both ball lightning and regular lightning were in the same location, but since the ball lightning was more amazing it got blamed.

    But who knows.

Ball lightning does exist, but I don't understand its manifestational aspects.
