Harsh, but it's always been like that afik. It's a bit of a nightmare, but beatable even with warriors if you chop enough of them... it's more a question of strategy, as in making sure you have a couple of decent military units rather than a bug.
Personally, I'd leave the event as it is and if it really annoys someone they can always disable it themselves in the xml.
It is indisputably the most imbalanced event in the game. It's so bad that HoF modded it so that it can't come so early.
As far as I'm concerned, it *IS* a bug, because if it was intended, the people responsible for it had their heads up their hindsides.
And no, it isn't beatable with warriors. The prep necessary to stop a 4-6 archer rush by or before 3000 BC with warriors requires you to build nothing but 4-5 warriors at the start to the detriment of the rest of your entire game. That's all well and good when you're warrior rush cheesing on lower difficulties, but if you're doing that on high levels or doing ANY normal worker-1st opening, this event can kill you.
You research something like AH ---- Mining and have 5 turns invested in bronzeworking, then the archers hit. You don't have slavery. You don't have chops. You don't have archers. You have 1 worker and probably a couple warriors, which are out on spawn bust duty.
This event might as well say "YOU LOSE!" instead of putting the archers there, and auto-exit the game. Sounds like a balanced event. "I think they should keep that in".
Or not. Can this be fixed, along with shift/control/alt clicking, ever?
