What activates the power? Sometimes the ship converts when I just move next to it, other times it doesn't (I know there is only a 50% chance), but if a ship doesn't convert first time, will it ever convert?

If you move your unit in and it doesn't convert, sink it.

AFAIK,there is no way to convert them after the first calculation.

From what I've heard, each barbarian ship spawns with a conversion quality - when it's spawned, it is either a convertible (the ship can put its top down :p) or not. If it doesn't convert when you move next to it, it never will, so sink it, or leave it be, whatever you prefer

If this bonus applied to any ship no matter who the owner it wouldn't get such a bad rap.

Yeah, it's not a great ability, but on the other hand, Janissaries and Sipahi...

It would be better if, in addition to converting, you get extra gold from sinking those that didn't convert.
