Because now the naval part of the game is going to be more intense, I was wondering if they would have pirates intead of barbarians with naval units. Also I feel like they should program the barbarians (or pirates) to be more agressive so that they can capture cities.

Seems fairly synonymous, don't you think? Pirates really are barbarians, aren't they?

What would the name change entail, anyways?

I always think the caravels roaming renaissance era are pirates. And in G&K they maybe use privateer units with barbs too so that will be very pirate thing to do. ;)

Also on some RARE occasions barbarians attack a city, but they are cowards and for it to happen it requires that there is no defence near anywhere.

I actually had a thread about it while ago, I had a city on the edge of my empire, and three brutes and one galley started suddenly attacking it, but as brutes have such a low strenght I was able to start killing them with my city bombardment and they fled..

Barbarians were uncivilised brutes who terrorized small villages and pillaged whatever they came across. Pirates, during the Age of Exploration, were formerly members of the navies of various nations. They were highly trained, ruthless thieves and murderers. These were the stereotypical pirates that everyone thinks of. Saying they were barbarians is liking saying the Mongols were a bunch of guys who rode horses.

To be fair, you're stereotyping "barbarians" too.

Bring em on is all I can say. In 7 weeks we will see what this AI naval capability is like.

True, but I'm not related to them. :)

Haha, ok. :D

At any rate, I'd be OK with independent "Barbarian" pirates if Privateers are back in the game. That way you wouldn't know whether those villains are sent from another civ or just random spawn.
