I'm currently playing a game and had the great barrier reef with a few fish tiles nearby. I promptly put a city nearby and as I was pushing out my workboats I noticed that one of the reefs actually had fish in it. I had no idea that fish could spawn in the reef and it actually increased the food output for the tile to 4 instead of 2. I was disappointed though that I was unable to use a fishing boat on the tile :-/

Anyway, not much of a discussion here just thought I would put it out there. Maybe I have never looked at the wonder that much because its never been near me, but i had never seen fish under it before.

I have a game where this happened, too. I believe I founded a city to work the tiles. Seems to be happening to other people, too. Someone reported that a poor City State had its Pearls inside the GBR.

That's pretty neat, but I'd hate to see Pearls, Crabs, or Whales on the GBR. YOur units can't enter Nat. Wonder tiles, so you can't exploit the bonus resources.

This is really cool, although I never saw it happenings. What type of map u were playing?

You can pay the CS to auto improve it. I imagine this would work under the GBR too.

regular pangea.

regarding the bonuses, I dont believe it did receive the bonuses. I'll check again when i put up a screenshot tonight but i know i had a lighthouse, harbor, and seaport and it had 4 food. not sure what production it was running at.

I wonder if you pay the CS to improve the resource. You can do that in the CS diplomacy screen. But I dont know if that just makes them improve the resource noramlly or if it automatically creates the improvement. It might be a work around worth trying!

EDIT: Peng Qi beat me to it!

I didnt even know you could pay the city states to do that! Can i tell them to work a resource that they "cant see" like coal if i'm super advanced technologically?

Here is a picture of the yield and what it looks like. you can see the fish swirling around and birds overhead so it looks really cool. i guess the fish gave it +2 food?

4 food? Mmmmm, with Spain that is 8 food. And then you choose One with Nature too for your Pantheon. Be One with the Fish. Be One with the Fish. Be One with the Fish....

with spain, i believe it would be 4 food. cause it was a separate "fish" tile that added the 2 food, and double the wonder would be 4 not 8. be interesting to see though.

I did have GBR with Fish on as Spain once. The Fish bonus did not double. I'm pretty sure the yield of the tile was 5 Food compared to 4 Food for the other tile. Doesn't Fish only provide +1 Food when unimproved?

Edit > Oh that town in the screenshot above had Lighthouse also, then it matches.

speaking of, why don't some of the harbor/docks/lighthouse bonuses extend to regular coral reefs?

I haven't seen a bonus resource appear on a wonder before, but I have had Uluru count as being desert once at a city were I built the Petra. That was some niceness. :D
Come to think of it I've had regular mountains near a Petra glitch into usability too, though those are far less helpful.

@dashwinner: You mean Atolls? They are just different (good) tiles, not a 'resource' so it can't be improved as one.
