I created a scenario using some of the units and graphics from this old scenario… https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/the-second-korean-war-c3c-only.165096/, but with the map from this other old one… https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/scenario-wwii-in-the-pacific-redux.86322/ , with more Civs. I think I’ve got the major kinks out of the way, but I know there are many small ones, which I should be able to flush out in these test games.

I’ve got the North Koreans going after the South Koreans and Tatmadaw taking on the Burmese rebels in Myanmar. Had to create these weird alliances between them due to lack of slots in Editor.
China and Taiwan have the other slot. I’ve assigned myself the Non-Era Diplomacy tech to hopefully control and eliminate any weird wars! I get to sign MPP’s and MA’s only. Trying to start everyone with a bad economy, but China and Taiwan both have Tresure units (Middle East support and NATO support) they can use to give them a boost.

First test game report will be as the main protagonist China!
As the Chinese I will declare war on the US, Japan and the Philippines on the first turn as an iteration. I will declare war on the South Koreans, only if they capture a North Korean city and will not attack USAG Humphreys (America city in Korea) until that happens. If and when I capture Taipei, I will declare war on Australia and Canada. Depending on how easy or difficult it gets, I will declare war on Vietnam, Singapore, India, Indonesia, etc… I will bring in Russia as a partner if things get difficult. But of course, the AI has a mind of it’s own and that is the fun of Civ 3 after all!

Key Resources - No nation has all key resources, but some are only missing a few like Russia (Rubber, Semiconductors) and China (Oil, Semiconductors), USA (Rubber, Steel, Semiconductors)
Aluminum
Steel
Oil
Rubber
Semiconductors

Advanced Naval units = Oil, Steel
Motorized Vehicles = Oil, Rubber
Infantry = Rubber
Aerial Units = Oil, Aluminum
Artillery Units = Steel
Nuclear Weapons = Uranium, Semiconductors

Wanted to do something more with semiconductors which are only located in Taiwan, but it involves creating duplicate units of everything and that will take a long time to do. But for now, just using C3X to simulate that by limiting Eastern units per city and revising as needed once an Eastern nation (China) captures that resource.

2025-Week 12
As China, I am only missing Oil and Semiconductors, but no country would even give me a price for oil, even the Russians! The semiconductors I will just take. :D The first turn was slow due to all of the immobile units, but once they all Fortified, the next turns were faster. 80% of the entire mobile ground forces were located in the 4 cities next to Taiwan with 4 Transports each (other 10% near Vietnam, 10% near North Korea). The first step was to launch salvo of Cruise and Ballistic Missiles followed up by 4th and 5th Generation Fighter Bombers taken to the sky. (Note: I need to rename the Generations to 4th, 4.5th, 5th,, 6th and get rid of the 3rd). I could only reach Guam with the Ballistic Missiles and only God knows how much damage they did there. The rest of the Cruise Missile hit Kadena and Subic Bay. Manila and Nara were also hit as my way of declaring war on Japan and the Philippines. I landed 36 units each in between 2 cities in the north and the south, to try and capture 4 cities on the next turn.

To simulate the invasion a bit better, I left 4 random Transports full of units in the Taiwan Strait to give the AI a chance to take these out. :hatsoff: Another Transport unit full of Marines launched an attack on the Great Kunming Island, but were unsuccessful despite hitting the defenders with a lot of Artillery.

2025-12.jpg

IBT – A flurry of aerial activity as I increased the chance to intercept to 70%! 1 of my Transport units was about to get sunk by a Japanese Submarine before retreating! All navy units can retreat via C3X. This meant my large force on the island was going to get reinforced with even more units!

2025-Week 13
Enemy Special Forces (invisible Paratroopers) units have been attacking interior Chinese cities that are not well defended! I realized that I can’t build any more Special Forces units because they also require oil! I think I might change this so that Rubber is the only requirement. These are the only Ground units that can see Invisible units.

2025-Week 14
With all units in place, the attack throughout the island began. We captured Taipei, Taoyuan and Tainan!!! :band: Taipei contained the TSMC (Smith’s Trading Company) Great Wonder and with the Golden Age achieved by a Chinese Infantry unit victory, I was now actually making Gold (+36 GPT) at 10% research. The Taiwanese capital was now Taichung.

Because I hadn’t build any new units, I could easily count the casualties after the second turn.
5 Marine
1 Fixed Trench
1 Submarine
1 Special Forces
3 Destroyer
1 Missile Destroyer
18 Disposable Drone (like a cruise missile)
3 4th Gen Fighter
1 MG Battalion
13 Chinese Infantry
2 Aerial Drone
18 Cruise Missile
2 Heavy Bomber
1 Anti-Aircraft
2 Modern Armor
6 Eastern Paramilitary
3 Frigate
1 Mobile SAM Battery
5 5th Gen Fighter
5 Mech Infantry
2 Attack Helicopter

2025-Week 15
Keeping the pressure on, the second attack on the Great Kunming Island was launched, this once again was unsuccessful, but I still had units on the adjacent tile to reinforce for another future attack. A new attack in the south of Taiwan at Kaoshiung also failed. There were a lot of degraded units in Taiwan now, we’ll have to pause a bit to recover, as I’m not going to be able to advance much further in Taiwan until my units get healthy. Unfortunately, I unchecked the “creates veteran units” box, which means I also can’t heal in Barracks. I leave most of my units out of the cities, just in case of culture flips! But I should be safe as I have more Culture overall than Taiwan.

2025-Week 16

Forgot to declare war on Australia and Canada after capturing Taipei, so just started with that now. I’ve kept trying to trade for some Oil, but nobody is giving it up, so I’ve decided that I have to go get it! :ar15: I thought about taking it from Russia, which would be 3 cities deep, but for the sake of semi-realism, I won’t invade Russia and instead take it from the Malaysians in Borneo.
I still have a feeling the Russian AI will eventually attack me anyway though, just because it’s Sid level and they are a big Civ, so I’m keeping my 10% of units in the north and will instead use the units on the Vietnamese border to take the Oil fields of Borneo! I loaded up 4 Transport units in Hong Kong and immediately set sail in the South China Sea, escorted by small Frigates. I also rebased many air units to Hainan Island to bomb the Malaysians before the attack.

IBT – American aerial attack on the flotilla left 2 Transport sip units with 1 HP each. I need to check if all Jets have lethal sea!

2025-16.jpg

2025-Week 17
A recon flight over Korea revealed almost all fixed units on both sides had been eliminated. That contact line must have been ultra-violent. :wow: Now each side was moving across and attacking cities on different areas of the DMZ.
I declared war on Malaysia and 21 units landed in the hills outside of Kubat!! At this time, I also noticed that our air units could not reach Borneo from Hainan Island! A bad miscalculation on my part, but nonetheless the flotilla invasion force included many ranged land units! I do have 2 Carriers, but they are hiding out in the Pacific Islands.
The units in Taiwan had now recovered sufficiently enough to continue the advance and we captured Hualien and Kaoshiung!! The Taiwanese will be soon entering the history books.

2025-17.jpg

I have a bunch of new units coming up, so this is the last time I see the casualties fairly easy…
5 Marine
1 Fixed Trench
4 Submarine
1 Special Forces
6 Destroyer
2 Missile Destroyer
18 Disposable Drone (like a cruise missile)
5 4th Gen Fighter
1 MG Battalion
13 Chinese Infantry
2 Aerial Drone
18 Cruise Missile
2 Heavy Bomber
1 Anti-Aircraft
9 Modern Armor
8 Eastern Paramilitary
5 Frigate
2 Mobile SAM Battery
8 5th Gen Fighter
7 Mech Infantry
2 Attack Helicopter

Definitely suffering a lot of aerial and naval casualties, but the submarines have been extremely great. I think I will start building more of these once I get the Oil.

IBT - Malaysia declared war on Singapore!!! Interesting move there AI! Singapore is stacked, so it will be interesting to see if they can take the whole Malay Peninsula.

2025-Week 18

Kubat and the Oil is captured!!! Not a lot of casualties if any! The city is connected to Indonesian cities with Harbors, so I immediately start building motorized units, special forces, plus naval and aerial units! I think I will tear this road up in the bic file for future versions.

After week 18, every turn is 4 weeks long. I’ve set this scenario out to 48 turns only, that should be enough to have all technologies researched and traded or so I think.

2025-Week 26 - Great Kunming Island was finally captured! :D The defenders could only take so much pounding by our artillery.

2025-Week 30 – Back in the big island, the city of Taichung was captured, one more town left! At this time, I started shipping units out of Taiwan to prepare an invasion of Vietnam.

2025-30.jpg

IBT – In a surprise move, the South Koreans declared war on Americans!! I guess the AI saw this American town surrounded and it wanted it badly! The Burmese Rebels also declared war on the Americans, since I put them in this strange alliance. I mean I think eventually I will have to start this scenario with two alliances all at war at the same time to avoid stuff like this.

2025-Week 34 - Tatung falls and Taiwan is ours!!!!!! But the Taiwanese still live on in their Treasure producing Island off the coast of Mexico called “NATO Support”. Speaking of Treasures, I was not able to capture the Treasure with the Merchant unit, so I sent in a regular Paramilitary unit to grab it, but that also failed!!! [pissed]

The check list:

  1. Treasure unit has “Immobile” and “Flag Unit” highlighted under Unit Abilities.
  2. The “Flag Unit” box is checked under AI Strategies.
  3. The Merchant and all other units have the “Capture” box checked, so they should be able to pick them up.
  4. Under General Settings the “Flag Unit:” drop-down is set to ‘None’, which is how the Age of Discovery scenario shows it.
  5. Finally, the Scenario Properties “Game Options “has “Capture the Unit” highlighted.
Will need to do more research to find out what I’m missing!!

I went ahead and declared war on Pacific Western Islands (US allies in the Pacific), Vietnam and South Korea. I’ll let them make the first move though. I should have declared war on the Western Pacific Islands at the same time I declared war on the Americans. I’m planning to go down the Vietnamese corridor, once I get past the Hill and Mountain terrain tiles, I should be rolling through there. The capital city should be Hanoi, I’ll fix that. China starts with a lot of artillery and on the Chinese version, I’ll reduce these units as one can overwhelm the AI with it pretty easily.
2025-34.jpg

2025-Week 38 – Now at war with the Burmese Rebels after bombing South Korean territory! In this turn, the Vietnamese ended up capturing and destroying our little Cambodian seaport town of ‘Ream Dock’, :aargh: I’ve got No Raze on, so there must’ve not been any buildings left in that town after it was captured. Nonetheless, they will pay for this!!!

2025-Week 44 - USA signed an alliance with Russia and Singapore to fight South Korea! Ruh Roh looks like I made a mistake with the Diplomatic Tech!! :scared: I hadn’t assigned it to China and maybe it is researchable, as the Americans do have it for certain now.

IBT- The Eastern Pacific Islands declared war on us, these guys are supposed to be my allies! :nope:

2025 -Week 2 - As we enter a new year, the situation in Malaysia is pretty stable, the Australians have sent multiple ships to bombard the city, but our Submarines have scored some big hits on them as well. The Malaysians send a couple of Jet units on bombing runs every turn, but they’ve not attempted to send any ground units in to attack. They’ve not traded any territory with Singapore either.

In Vietnam, we have struggled mightily getting past the hills on the border. The first attack on Lao Cai failed but it was close! There’s lots of Fixed Gun units bombarding us on every advance, plus the other units with the ZOC. By the time our fresh reinforcements get to the contact line at Lao Cai, our forces are too depleted to attack. In Burma, the situation remains the same with no territory captured by anyone. As I was adding the flags of all of these rebels, the thought came that maybe they should all be individual civs, maybe, maybe not?
2026-02a.jpg

In South Korea, I really didn’t send enough units for this attack. So although we have reached the edge of Seoul, I will need to wait it out a bit more before launching an assault on the city. We do however have plenty of artillery in both the north and the south to eventually push through! From the map, the city of Hsinking should be Changchun. I also think North Korea is suffering heavily economically and that is why a bunch of their Immobile units on the ground are no longer there, because they had to disband them. If South Korea had destroyed them all, then they surely would have captured on of their towns as well by now.
2026-02b.jpg

In Taiwan, everything is calm, except for the continuing bombardment of Taipei and only Taipei! I think it’s the TSMC Great Wonder the AI is trying to destroy, but it’s impossible! :p

Got to play just a little bit this week… :(

2026-Week 6 – Our GA was over and the GPT was now -165! I like this, all nations should be suffering economic hardships with this war to force tough decisions. I thing the GA should be reduced to 10 turns too. For now, with the “Economy I” tech achieved, I began to build Banks in many cities. As the Chinese Civ, I could easily do this while still pumping out military units in other cities. I imagine this will be much harder playing South Korea or Taiwan with not so many cities! I also began researching the “Economy II” tech, just in case the Banks weren’t enough, that would let me build Stock Markets Improvements.

2026-Week 14 – I had launched a big attack on Seoul which ultimately failed! I came back for a second attack, which also failed, but definitely caused a lot of damage. Along with the combination of Chemical Weapons and Suicide Bombers from North Korea, I was able to launch a third assault on this turn and ultimately captured the South Korean capital!!! Now I would be able to go face-to-face with the Yanks!!, who are led by Kamala Harris (yeah, I made the wrong prediction on that one).

2026-14.jpg

2026-Week 18 – Back in Vietnam, I started throwing many new units to the front line and finally captured Lao Caí! This was a very bloody battle!!! But, I’m really churning out the units now and mother China has many dedicated warriors willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of Xi Jinping’s legacy! We will reload and continue to march all the way to Saigon, (Which will be renamed to Ho Chi Minh City in the next update!)

I've decided to change the Barracks to provide Veteran units again because of the Health benefits. Really slows the game down when you can't heal really fast. :nope:

2026-18.jpg

After capturing a city in each of Vietnam and South Korea, I decided to declare war on India, Singapore and Indonesia, let’s go!!!! Unfortunately, I had forgotten that I was using the Indonesian Harbors to get my Oil out of Borneo! A tremendous own goal that was!!! :yup:

IBT - We lost Haikou in Hainan island to Vietnam, they snuck in some invisible units and I never saw them!!! This was to become my priority to get vengeance, lost quite a few air and naval units here!! These Vietnamese needed to learn a lesson!

2026-22.jpg

2026 Week 22
IBT- It was on, Russia declared war on us!!! :nono:

2026 Week 26 – I decided to abandoned Seoul and give it to the North Koreans, as we would’ve needed those units to deal with a whole bunch of Russians at the border. They start with powerful Air Force, but a small amount of ground units. However at Sid level, I was pretty certain, they would’ve been able to rebuild enough units to be a threat to Manchuria.

2026 Week 34 - Haikou was recaptured, but at a heavy price! I only had 2 units remaining there to guard the island. My naval units were starting to get overpowered a bit too against all the other nations, I think China needs bigger Navy from the start.
The decision to declare war on Indonesia was beginning to look like a larger blunder than first thought, Kudat’s Harbor in Borneo kept getting blown up immediately after build-rushing it on every turn. I had 2 submarines taking ships out, but there were a lot more enemy ships out there bombarding on every turn.

IBT – The city of Seoul was destroyed after flipping sides between the North and South and destroying all improvements!

2026 Week 44 - Lost Hsinking (Changchun) to the Russians but recaptured it quickly! I had defended it with just 1 unit! :shake:
The front lines in Vietnam and the Russian border had become completely stagnant for two reasons, 1. I could not build any more strong motorized, air or naval units, due to the Oil I couldn’t get out of Borneo, 2. I had concentrated production to build Banks to shore up the economy, we were now at only -35GPT at 10% research, soon I would start on Stock Exchanges with the ‘Economy II’ now discovered. But I need to make sure the AI is boosted at all difficulty levels economically, or else it can start making some terrible decisions. :twitch:
I still had a ton of ranged weapon units though, which made the game a bit too safe against the AI.:yeah: I’m going to make them a stealth attack target against Special Forces and Guerrilla units to take that away and be more challenging.

IBT – The Indians had marched to Burma to set up a siege of our Burmese navy town of Kyaukphyu Dock, but eventually they launched an attack and destroyed the city which was void of any City Improvements. :ack: Didn’t care, didn’t need it anyway since I couldn't move the Treasure units. But I think I’ve figured it out for the next game!

2026 Week 50 - North Koreans have now taken and destroyed 2 more cities in the peninsula! :groucho: I’m thinking the AI is selling all their improvements to keep up with the loss of Gold! And thus, cities are getting destroyed automatically when captured. Somewhat surprised the North has been successful, but the South Koreans have gotten into war with all of their neighbors!

2027 Week 2 – Launched a furious attack against Hanoi and captured it! They had like 6 Artillery units in there, it’s been tough advancing! The Russians ground units in the north have been pretty limited, but the aerial bombing unrelenting. So I think the Russians are working like I thought. But there’s a bit too many changes I have to do to continue, so I’m going to stop this game report now and try a new civ. The attack and defense numbers I used were based on the WWII-Pacific scenario, which I thought would create more fluid front lines, but that hasn’t happened at all except in Korea. There were no territory exchanges anywhere else between the AI neighbors.

China definitely needs it’s own version because they so much bigger than everyone else. Never felt any real danger. :wavey: I never got out of negative GPT, but hadn’t started the Stock Exchanges yet. For the human version of China I need to reduce the amount of range weapons and increase the number of units for Taiwan.

2027-2b.jpg

North Korea – I want to see if I made them too overpowered against the south, as per the last AI vs AI war results.

2025 Week 12 -

North Korean Military

Logistics:
4 Worker

Ground:
74 Fixed Trench (immobile)
5 MG Battalion
37 NK Infantry
14 Light Tank
8 Modern Armor E (limited)
13 Mechanized Infantry E (limited)

Asymmetrical:
7 Fanatics (cruise missile)
9 Guerrilla (invisible)
6 Eastern Paramilitary (invisible)
3 TOW Infantry (stealth attack, limited)
3 Special Forces (invisible, see invisible, limited)

Air Defense:
6 Anti-Aircraft

Ranges Weapons:
36 Fixed Gun (immobile)
29 Fixed NK Battery (immobile)
8 Artillery
4 Radar Artillery
5 Chemical Weapon
10 Cruise Missile
4 Ballistic Missile

Naval:
7 Submarine
2 Destroyer
3 Frigate

Aerial:
1 Helicopter Transport
3 Disposable Drone
9 Fighter Bombers 3rd Generation E
1 Attack Helicopter E

Nuclear:
5 Tactical Nuclear Missile

Population: 910,000 15th
Land: 3,600 sq ml 19th

Population needs to increase a little bit I think, so I’ll make these cities bigger. Decent amount of ground units and loads of Arty, albeit most of it is immobile. I’ve left China and Taiwan by themselves in war to see if the Chinese AI can launch a sea invasion.

Let us begin. First thing I did was declare war on the US and Japan, for the challenge! My strategy was to move straight into the colonial capital of Seoul, then advance into the USAG-Humphreys town and kick the Imperialist Devils out of the peninsula. Then I would liberate the southern coastal cities, all the while bombarding the other colonial cities in range of the DMZ. And the DMZ would be kept well fortified to prevent any flanking moves by the enemy.

2025-12NK.jpg

And it was on!!! Launched a massive salvo of Chemical Weapons, Cruise Missiles, Ballistic Missiles and Fanatics (suicide bombers) into the single tile north of Seoul, and the city itself! Crossed the DMZ and defeated the defenders on the Barricaded tile just north of Seoul, moved in all available units for the Seoul assault on the next turn. The American colony would soon be liberated!!!

Week 13 - We threw everything at Seoul, but ultimately failed to capture the city! :ack: Not completely certain, but I think I was close to taking it! In the end lots of injured units were rushed back into the safe lands of the North to recover. I felt we had enough surviving units to give it another go after a few more turns. I had the Barracks able to heal on this version.

IBT -
The tile just north of Seoul came under viscous attack, but we held on!

Casualties after 2 turns, my Air Force was pretty much destroyed now, cannot compete against the more advanced enemy jets!

Ground:
-5 Fixed Trench (immobile)
-1 MG Battalions
-22 NK Infantry
-9 Light Tank
-3 Modern Armor E (limited)
-6 Mechanized Infantry E (limited)

Asymmetrical:
-7 Fanatics (cruise missile)
-9 Guerrilla (invisible)
-4 Eastern Paramilitary (invisible)
-2 Special Forces (invisible, see invisible, limited)

Air Defense:
-1 Anti-Aircraft

Ranges Weapons:
-5 Chemical Weapon
-10 Cruise Missile
-4 Ballistic Missile

Naval:
-4 Submarine
-1 Destroyer
-1 Frigate

Aerial:
-3 Disposable Drone
-7 Fighter Bombers 3rd Generation E

I did the math and my movable ground units suffered a %48 loss. That was not good!!! Didn’t count the enemy casualties, but safe to say they got hit hard too!

2025 Week 14 – The economic situation would be the biggest obstacle to overcome as North Korea. We were losing 147 GPT at %10 research and only 1,638 Gold in the Treasury left! We are a very poor country with only 5 cities. Our government is based on the base Despotism type, so really bad economy and production.

Traded my only source of Uranium to the Russians for Oil, Wine and 530 Gold!!! Deal of the century as they had plenty of Uranium, just not connected yet.

Also got Rubber and Gold from Malaysia for a tech! I could now build some better units, but unfortunately our production was terrible. Only Pyongyang could produce anything, but I decided to build the Small Wonder that could auto-produce Disposable Drones at the start. This was not a good decision though!

2025 Week 15 IBT - Ugh, lost 200 Gold which was extorted from me by the Chinese and Malaysian thugs!! If not for the Rubber, I would have told the Malaysians to kick rocks!

2025 Week 16 - Declared war on Australia for the heck of it. Another colony of the Imperialists! Majority of my units had now been reconstituted and they were sent to the front to launch another major assault on Seoul on the next turn.

2025 Week 17 – Well unfortunately, the attack on Seoul failed again. And worse, this time there were not a lot of units that could be sent home to recover. That was it I thought. I hadn’t even built a new unit yet and didn’t look like I would anytime soon, we were a very small, poor country. We needed a miracle.

Sidenote: I think just about every City Improvement and Population in Seoul was destroyed now, due to the unrelenting barrage from the Fixed NK batteries, these need to be made part of the stealth attack list for the AI!

2025 Week 34 - I had decided for the porcupine strategy, stand back and make it as painful as possible for the enemy. What I couldn’t do was stop the unrelenting aerial campaign that was falling upon all of our towns. It was especially the Japanese that would fly an untold number of sorties over our motherland. We had a few ground air defense units, but no Fighters to stop them. On the ground the South Koreans almost broke through at the eastern and western coastal tiles. They were probing for weak points.

2025 Week 42 - We had been suffering some heavy casualties on the tile just north of Seoul, but I refused to give up this position. Not one step back per the Supreme Leader’s order! But the reality was extremely dangerous, I felt like it was only a matter of time, until we got curb stomped!

2025 Week 46 IBT - 1st enemy breakthrough on the tile just south of Nampo. They had taken the barricades but not with any real numbers. Nonetheless we were now at prepared readiness to launch nuclear missiles with no ethical concerns for the use of such capability!!!

2025 Week 50 - The infiltrators near Nampo were completely destroyed, including an Army unit! Our ranged units were unrelenting!

2025-50NK.jpg

IBT - Indonesia declared war on us. A second barricade tile was breached, Kaesong was now in danger! At this time, the decision was made to retreat all units from the tile north of Seoul back into North Korean territory to protect the cities. An all hands on deck situation, as the attrition was devastating!

2026 Week 2 - Our economy was projecting 4 more turns until we go bankrupt! :twitch: We were rapidly improving our negative GPT situation, but mostly because our units were dying on the front and our City Improvements were getting obliterated from the air! Arrggg just realized when I went to build Banks that most of my towns didn’t even have Marketplaces! Could’ve been building those already!

IBT - Oh no, here we go, the Chinese signed an alliance with the Imperialist dogs and declared war on us!!!! What a betrayal!!

2026 Week 6 IBT - Chinese hit us with Chemical Weapons, Cruise Missile and Artillery system, but did not cross the border with any units. Instead, they just moved back and forth on their side. AI Patrol thingy?

2026 Week 10 IBT - Philippines declared war! The 3rd breach of a DMZ barricade tile occurred due east of Kaesong. Kaesong itself was now being attacked from the southwest tile.

There were multiple aerial and naval attacks from Japan and the USA. Australia itself now had 9 naval units bombarding our coastal tiles.

USA and Indonesia declared war on Taiwan, nice! The Pacific nations both East and West declared war on us too.

2026 Week 14 - GPT was now -47, due to lack of maintenance requirements of blown up City Improvements and deceased Units that no longer required salaries. The Chinese have now crossing the border but in limited numbers. I beat them back with my Arty.

2026 Week 18 - A 4th barricade tile was breached on the east coast, it appears the South is trying to eliminate all of my entrenched Arty positions before mounting attacks on my cities. Very smart move AI, because any enemy unit that advances past the DMZ was getting a massive volley of steel and fire. And now Russia had declared war on us!!

2026 Week 22 - An insane missile and aerial bombardment barrage from Russia was absolutely devastating! They even destroyed one of my Tactical Nukes. I thought that was impossible!

Ugh, our east coast city of Hamhung was captured and burned to the ground by the Chinese. So, this was a size 3 city and shouldn’t have been possible to raze. I knew something was wrong and I had in fact forgotten to make this scenario “no raze” game. :o

2026 Week 26 - Time for vengeance, the Nukes were released!!! Beijing, Vladivostok, Busan and Tokyo all got hit with the nuclear winter!!! :cowboy:

2026-26NK.jpg

IBT - Chongjin was captured by China. :eek2: No nuclear reprisal though!! The Chinese Special Forces units were destroying Artillery pieces through Stealth Attack, unlike their South Korean counterparts. I’m thinking of adding a Small Wonder to auto-produce these super important units for the AI. Anyway, we were done the game was up!

China did take Great Kumming Island, but nothing else from Taiwan. Kind of dreading playing Taiwan and seeing the tiny landing invasions from the AI…

Burmese rebels did take Myitkvina from the Tatmadaw this time.

Singapore!

Okay this time I set up the alliances with multiple nations. I have Russia, China, North Korea, Laombodia, East Pacific Nations in an alliance against USA, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Philippines, West Pacific Nations and Australia. I picked the neutral nation of Singapore to observe what is essentially WWIII in the Pacific.

2025 Week 12 –
Singapore Military

Logistics:
0 Worker (I have no tiles to work!)

I started with 9000 Gold making +34GPT at 10% research, I’m rich!! Plus, I had the good kit and I wanted to use it, so I decided to invade Malaysia right from the start!! My plan was to march straight north through Malay!

SG-2025-13.jpg

Malacca was my first target and it was captured, but very costly! Too costly!!! :eek2: I would now have to wait and reconstitute, essentially killing all of my momentum.
IBT - Australians attempted to extort me, but they backed away after I told them to stick it!

2025 Week 15 - Vietnam declared war after we rejected their extortion attempts!

2025 Week 30 – Took a look up north and saw that the Russians had taken Sapporo and Kushiro in Hokkaido Island! Nice amphibious operation there by the Russkies! Our units were now healed and ready to go for Kuala Lumpur, we moved into jungle tile next to it. And that was a blunder!
IBT - We lost Malacca, as the Malaysians strolled in through the uncontested Plains terrain tile to attack and capture the city!
SG-2025-34.jpg

2025 Week 34 - We retreated our units from the Kuala Lumpur operation, to take Malacca for the second time!

2025 Week 38 – The war on Malaysia did not go as planned. We had suffered too many casualties and could not go on. We decided to sign a Peace Treaty with the enemy.
IBT - We were still getting bombed and attacked by Vietnamese, but they would never threaten us with any invasion.

2025 Week 46 - Aomori captured by Russians on the main island! Looked like they might take all of Japan!

2026 Week 10 - Arghhhh!!! Culture Flipped!!! Devastating!! We lost a whole bunch of Elite units plus 5 Artillery and 1 Radar Artillery units!! Down to one city, can only produce 1 unit at a time, major setback it was.

2026 Week 18 - Thailand and Malaysia join the Western Nations with various alliances. I began to concentrate on rebuilding my military with no resources, so I just decided to build TOW Infantry over and over again… I was going to take a while to rebuild my military.

2026 Week 22 - Indonesia joined the West as well.

2026 Week 30 - India and Vietnam joined the West! The Yanks had reached the Diplomatic Tech first and they were signing up all of the neutrals!

2026 Week 42 – The Tatmadaw even joined the West lol!!!

2026 Week 46 - Russia now had the Diplo Texh and signed up Malaysia to a bunch of wars! So they were now fighting everybody and I could smell an opportunity had opened up!!

2027 Week 2 – The Japanese had recaptured Aomori! Looks like the Russians could not push on through on the big island. In the Korean peninsula, the South Koreans had captured Kaesong, the first territorial exchange of that war.

2027 Week 6 – The Vietnamese eliminated Laombodia! They are taking on China and Thailand now.

2027 Week 14 - China and India signed a peace Treaty after India overtook their Burmese port of Kyaukphy Dock.

2027 Week 30 – In Japan, my sub was able to see Russian units recapture and then lose Aomori. Some good action in the north of Japan. :groucho:

2027 Week 46 - Yanks attempting to extort us and we declined! But then they signed up a bunch of nations against us, including Malaysia! But during this whole 2 and a half years’ time, we’d been building our TOW Infantry units over and over again, it was time to unleash the fury!!! :ar15:

2027 Week 50 - Indians captured Lhasa, I guess they’re back at war with China too. Back in the Malay peninsula, we stormed and captured Malacca with our TOW Infantry!! Most important is that I didn’t suffer too much losses taking it. We were on the move to Kuala Lumpur!!!
SG-2027-50.jpg

2028 Week 2 - Australia declared war on us. But we didn’t care about that, as we were on the move and captured the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur!! The Malays were also at war with Indonesia and that was taking it’s toll on them. The resistance was much weaker than expected. Their seat of government moved further north to George Town, but we would take no chances of another culture flip! We would keep sending our units up north, only heal in Singapore, while leaving only 1 garrison unit in the captured towns.

2028 Week 6 – In the rest of the Pacific, it was an official royal rumble now, everybody against everybody!

2028 Week 18 – Our first big attack on George Town failed. The damn Yankees bombed me from the air and weakened our units before attacking. But new reinforcements were coming in and I know the defenders in George Town were weakening!

2028 Week 22 - Captured George Town!!! :band: But my forces had been exhausted!!! :yup: We would need to take a break before taking on the invasion of Borneo, we needed some Oil and ready to trade some Blood for it.
SG-2028-22.jpg

2028 Week 26 – The South Koreans had now captured Pyongyang! I did place several immobile NK units on the Chinese border to force the Chinese to battle Taiwan. I’d think the Chinese would completely ignore Taiwan if they could have a go at South Korea by land. The Russians meanwhile had taken Lhasa in Tibet from the Indians!

2028 Week 38 – After a few quiet turns of invasion preparation, we hit Borneo hard by sea and air (Transport Helicopters and Special Forces) and Bintulu was captured! :run: But really the Indonesians had done all the hard work! Tee hee!! Off to finish off the Malaysians now with our Indonesian brothers.
SG-2028-38.jpg

2029 Week 18 – Well the attack on Kota Kinabalu was quite perilous, here the Malaysians put up a big resistance and it took a pretty long time to finally capture the town. The scenario had only 2 turns left, the Indonesians would end up finishing off the former country known as Malaysia in the history books.
SG-2029-18.jpg

The biggest winners were Vietnam (see attached), who were conquering all of Indochina and defended themselves well against the Chinese juggernaut! The South Koreans did a good job on the north too, but protected from the Chinese. The Russians were impressive taking all of Hokkaido and even attacking the big island, but not able to establish a foot hold there.
SG-2029-26 Vietnam.jpg

Next up will have to be Taiwan, the nation whose name is written on the scenario.

Well, I did try the Taiwan version and to no avail, the Chinese AI never sent a single unit by sea despite having 32 Transports all nearby with plenty of units to load them in. I had also given them a bunch of Helicopter Transports and these they did use, but the majority of the time, it was only 1 or 2 units being dropped per landing. The good thing is these units could move on the same turn, thus did a good job going after my workers. Still this was hardly any danger to Taiwan. In any case, the thought is now to create land bridges to Taiwan and the Great Kinmen Island to see if that makes the Taiwan situation more perilous. So I'll do the Taiwan game report later one, for now I wanted to try the other hot spot in the Korean peninsula.

Nice big military and I was ready to use it! I added new Drone units that ‘Predator’ created, I was previously using the WWII Fighter plane graphics. For this iteration, I opened up the North Korean border with China, so that we’d be forced to fight the Chinese and Russians ground units as well. I previously blocked the border to force China to concentrate on Taiwan, which didn’t happen.

Well, the first turn was very painful, OUCH! We got hit by the Russians and Chinese aerial units and missiles in addition to the North Koreans. All defending units in Gwangju and Jeju were destroyed, but neither city captured thankfully. All roads to the three southern cities were pillaged by the North Korean Paras. All but 1 of our Fighter-Bombers were destroyed before even getting a chance to get up in the air! No Rubber or Oil resources, but lots of Steel and Aluminum to trade.

2025 Week 13 - Damn, Transport Helicopter carrying 2 Infantry units was shot down by an enemy Fighter, never seen that before.
Loaded up Transport ship from Seoul with lots of units to defend Gwangju and Jeju, but also to clear the southern enemy Paras still in the area.

2025 Week 14 – Great success as I broke through 4 gaps in the DMZ just east of Kaesong. :ar15: The North Koreans just retreated all their units from the barricaded tiles!
IBT - The North Koreans broke through one of our own barricaded tiles.

2025 Week 16 – Coming in from all directions, we captured the first enemy city of Kaesong!!!
IBT – Lots of aerial bombings of our cities, but the Japanese and Yanks were taking out a lot of enemy Fighter Bombers too! 😀 We have concentrated on clearing the remaining Barricaded tiles north of the DMZ to get rid of the range units that have nearly destroyed all of our City Improvements within range.

Our Navy and Air Force were mostly destroyed in the 1st wave of attacks in week 12. Seoul has been reduced to a size 1 town with many City Improvements destroyed. :shake:

2025 Week 17
Indonesia declared war on us after trying to extort us! Not concerned at all about them, we were moving on to Hamhung!
IBT – The first battles against Chinese units at the front had now happened!

2025 Week 18
All North Korean Ranged Weapons at the barricaded tiles were destroyed!!! I thought, this would help our northern cities breathe a little bit.

2025 Week 26
Chinese were having a big impact on the western coast, as I had to divert some units to that sector. On the east coast, the road to Hamhung had been harrowing! I decided to retreat all units back to safety and just wait until they all healed to assemble a SOD, because we were getting hammered via bombardments.

2025 Week 30 IBT - Indonesians bombarded Jeju and now they are at war with the whole west. It will be interesting to see them go against Australia.

2025 Week 38 - Chinese have quite a few Special Forces units and they are devastating our Ranged units. Our allies have been very helpful in Air Defense as I have yet to build a new Fighter Bomber, but there is no ground support at all from them. I am all alone out here fighting the big Chinese bully on the block!

2025 Week 42 – After assembling a decent SOD of 26 units, I decided that Nampo was the better city to go after. And after a brief fight Nampo was captured!!! The North Koreans were on the run, and it was time to get Pyongyang!!
IBT – It was during this very turn, that I realized my units were now on the Chinese border. And it was going to get very ugly!! They had a bunch of ranged units bombarding Nampo.
SK-2025-42.jpg

2025 Week 50 - The War Weariness was hitting us hard!!! We were a democracy after all! I also had made a really terrible decision a bit earlier when I gave away thousands of Gold pieces for a tech (forgot which one) I had assumed being under Democracy, the cash would be flying in after a while, but that was not the case!! I think the constant bombardment of our towns prevented any economic activity to flourish, as our City Improvements would get smashed as soon as they had gotten built, and we were getting to the bankrupt point quite quickly!
IBT - Vietnam declared war against China! I was hoping this could relieve a bit of that pressure.

2026 Week 2 IBT – We ended up losing Nampo lost to the Chinese, but they didn’t have near enough forces to defend against our counter. Just didn’t pay enough attention to the attrition that was happening. The Chinese just kept coming. :shifty:

SK-2026-06.jpg

2026 Week 6 – The city of Nampo was recaptured!!! :worship: This time, I loaded up the city with defenders.
IBT - Heavy Chinese attacks on Nampo continued, our production was in the toilet, as all Factories had been destroyed.

2026 Week 10 IBT - I was losing the battle against attrition! Nampo was not connected via road, which was another problem in reinforcing quickly. So I decided to abandon the city by way of Transport ships. Had to do it, to avoid the slaughter that was surely about to happen. Trading space for time.
IBT - Indonesia singed a peace treaty with the West. The Chinese marched into the undefended town of Nampo! :faint: The Chinese were now heading to Kaesong, but here I decided that we would fight with everything we had!!!

2026 Week 15 IBT – The Chinese had reached the DMZ north of Seoul. They looked quite numerous!!!! Further south, the Chinese had taken the Great Kinmen Island from Taiwan.

2026 Week 18 IBT - India, Mongolia and Singapore all declared war on China. Maybe this would be our saving grace?!?!? (It wasn’t)

2026 Week 22 IBT – The island town of Jeju was taken by the Chinese Special Forces units! :backstab: And we were officially bankrupt, the automatic selling off of City Improvements throughout the nation had begun. War Weariness through the roof too.

2026 Week 26 – The Chinese were now hitting the DMZ hard!!!

2026 Week 38 – We were selling around 5 City Improvements on every turn, in addition to the ones getting destroyed by the enemy air units. And this is the turn that the desertion started! A whole 75 units of the South Korean military walked away from the battlefield!!! Damn you guys, you are supposed to fight for free and starving!! :hide:

2026 Week 50 – A further mass desertion of 42 units, which left me with only 2 total units to defend the whole nation. Busan, Daegu and Kaesong all quickly fell. :eek2: But now I was at +5 GPT!
SK-2026-50.jpg

2027 Week 4 – The final nail in the coffin as Seoul, Gangneung, Ulsan and Gwangju all fell to the Chinese. A complete capitulation.

Other than the Korean peninsula, the only other territorial exchange was China taking the Great Kinmen Island. Surprised the Chinese didn’t even bother with Mongolia. Man, I really messed up giving up so much Gold early on, that could’ve been at least 10-15 more turns. But South Korea is in a very dangerous location! The whole country is a target from the surrounding enemy air units. There is no place safe to start building City Improvements to help the economic situation.

Nuclear:

I increased the amount of Drones for everyone! Plus added a few more ships to the Chinese Navy. The land bridge to Kinmen Island and another to the main island has been added with sea intersections allowing free navigation through the Strait by naval units. I would not personally use the land bridge myself, that was only for the Chinese AI to use. I made it as a Marsh terrain, so it’s not too ridiculous with Chinese Tanks, Mech Infantry (yes, wheeled) and Artillery rolling across the Strait to Taiwan.

We have Oil, Uranium, Aluminum and Coal, but need Steel, Rubber and Semiconductors. And our AI allies were all nuts asking for 3,000 gold for Rubber, or Steel!!!! I’m not going to fall for that trick again! Semiconductors resource for Stealth Bombers, Nukes and Ballistic Missiles. The resource is so limited and only in Taiwan that I didn’t want to affect the game too much. 6,000 Gold with -484 GPT at 10% research. 12 turns before we go bankrupt!! Let’s see if this declining empire has one last good fight in it!

IBT - Russian ships moving through the Aleutians! The typical missile/aerial barrage that the scenario always begins with, I was able to note down the exact casualties of the 1st turn…

Ground:
-1 North American Infantry

Asymmetrical:
-1 TOW Infantry (stealth attack, limited)

Ranges Weapons:
-1 Radar Artillery

Naval:
-5 Destroyer
-2 Frigate
-1 Missile Cruiser

Aerial:

-1 Fighter Bombers 4th Generation W
-11 Fighter Bombers 5th Generation W
-4 Attack Helicopters W

A ton of Navy and Air Force losses at our bases in Korea, Japan and the Philippines. Guam was also hit by enemy ballistic missiles. The base in Australia was a bit too far and remained unscathed.

House Rules playing as the Yanks:
  1. Ground unit airlifting from the continental US only allowed to Anchorage and Fairbanks (Alaska), Honolulu and Hilo (Hawaii) and American Samoa.
  2. Ground unit airlifting from Hawaii only allowed to Guam. From Guam all ground units would be required to go to the hot zone (USAG Humphreys, Kadena AFB, Subic Bay) destinations by sea.
  3. Ground unit airlifting from American Samoa to Australia would only be allowed if the Chinese Pacific Island nations were defeated. And if we were not at war with Indonesia.
  4. Rebasing of Air Units can go directly to Guam and American Samoa from the continental US and then rebase to the oversea bases of Korea, Japan, Philippines and Australia.
2025 Week 13
Objective 1
I decided to make Korea the first priority to secure the Steel resource located in North Korea, they had a lot of it.

Objective 2
For the Rubber resource, I was hoping the price would go down a bit a few turns in, as I really needed this resource to build more Marines! But just in case, I had a plan drawn up to invade the southern China and eventually get to the city of Luzhou and its rubber. Luzhou was pretty far deep into China, so I did think this plan was a bit suicidal, but we shall see!! I did not want to take the easy route and pick on Indonesia or Malaysia again, unless they declared war on us first.

A-2025-13.jpg

Objective 3
Take out the Chinese Pacific Island nations (1 Civ) to allow the airlifting of units into Australia.

A-2025-14.jpg

IBT - Gave the Indians some Oil, after being extorted. I figured they could join the West alliance in the future and I did have surplus Oil to give, no harm done. But still, bastards!

2025 Week 14
From Hilo, I sent a Transport loaded with 7 units inside to Tarawa, to start the conquering in the South Pacific.
Sent several Transport ships loaded with many units from Kadena and they were on their way to the east coast of Korea. We also filled 2 Transport units in USAG Humphreys to move our units from the west coast to east coast of Korea. I wanted to avoid the Chinese on the west coast for now.
From Subic Bay, we set sail with a small invasion force and landed units at Hainan Island to attack Haikou on the next turn.

IBT – Disaster at sea, as the North Koreans sunk a Transport full of units! Ugh!!!!! There were at least 8-10 units in there!!!!

2025 Week 15
The attack on Haikou fell and wasn’t even close. I decided to keep the remaining force there though and wait until reinforcements arrived. There was an Artillery unit that I could continually bombard the city with, in the meantime.
In North Korea, our units had landed in a decent size force!! Unfortunately, a bit further north than I wanted though! Had no choice, couldn’t risk another Transport getting sunk, so the cargo soldiers had to go somewhere. We were right next to Hamhung, but 2 tiles away from Kaesong. We would need to capture Hamhung and move to Kaesong as fast as possible to avoid the dreaded Culture Flip.

IBT - Indonesia signed an alliance with Cambodia to declare war on us! Ugh, Cambodia has the Diplo tech!!!! This seems to happen randomly in a bunch of scenarios, where some advanced techs are suddenly given to random Civs from the start. Each game is different and you never know what you’re going to get. In any case, now I could freely try and take the Rubber resource from the Indonesians! Singapore and Thailand joined the East as well, ugh!
Our forces in North Korea got hit really hard by North Korean ranged weapons!!!

2025 Week 16 -The damage done to my forces in North Korea was too severe and so I pulled out all of the units from North Korean territory! Further south a bunch units that began in Guam had arrived in Subic Bay. Initially these guys were going to reinforce the units in Hainan Island, but now I decided these units were to go after the Rubber resource in Indonesia. However, after scouting Rubber locations in Indonesia, I realized it would not be so easy to take and it was then that I realized Laos had some Rubber as well, this would be much easier to take! Albeit at a big risk, since Cambodia could’ve signed Vietnam up for war against us!!
But Laos was a short trip away from the Philippines, so Laos it would be!!!! I signed a ROP with Vietnam for Furs! Then landed a force of about 14 units in Vietnam adjacent to Laotian city of Pakse!

IBT - War with Singapore and Thailand against us was officially on. Noticed that Thailand is woefully underrepresented in population and military, I’ll fix this though!!

2025 Week 17 - Got a Golden Age in Laos, GPT is now only -205!!! Battle for Pakse began with an aerial bombardment of Attack Choppers and Drones which were based on a couple of Aircraft Carriers off the coast of Vietnam. The Carriers are needed due to these units’ short range. But the ground assault was still too costly!! And still not captured. In Guam, units from Hawaii had arrived and they were sent immediately to the Philippines without rest.
Out in the South Pacific, a small force (2 Mech Inf, 1 Modern Armor, American GI, TOW Inf) landed at Tarawa! I was hoping this would be enough!

IBT - So far it had been the Taiwanese troops who had been using the marsh land bridge to attack the Chinese main land!!!

2025 Week 18 - Pakse was captured along with 2 POW’s who will eventually get to work the road on the Rubber resource. We would have to move on to Battamabang in Cambodia too, to secure it. But reinforcements were needed badly, as our force had now been reduced greatly!! I have 2 Carriers working overtime full of Drones and Attack Choppers providing bombardment cover around the clock!
WOO HOO!!, finally got an excellent deal for Steel! Gave the Australians Oil and Spices for it! Now I coulde build railroads to increase my commerce!

IBT - Aaaargh, Vietnam joined the war against us!! Then India declared war. Got furiously attacked in Pakse by everybody, definitely won’t hold on to this town for very long without reinforcements.
