bed_01 - Commercialistic English

The reason why I signed so many alliances, is because Portugual is one of the leading AI's. They have plenty of resources to sign other AI's into alliance against us. So either I try to make peace ASAP and hoping that they don't turning anyone against us, or I take the innitiative and turn the world against them right from the start.

Another consideration is luxuries. We happen to be importing a lot of luxuries from the smaller nations. I would hate to lose those luxuries if those nations are turned against us. I also can't just sign up those smaller nations to secure luxuries, because then Portugual would enlist Summeria, and then Summeria would conquer their continent.

Can you explain more about that trick?
Are you saying we prebuild the palace, and we are about to finish it, switch to BM and waste the extra shields?

Exactly! When our pre-build is ready but the tech isn't, we don't want to just swap the prebuild to something and finish it, then having to start from zero again. What if the AI researches Fission the next turn! We'd have no pre-build.

In our case, using the University as the smaller build may still work. It will keep 200 shields in the bin on the re-start. Demigod AI gets 70% discount, while the University (200/1000) in effect gives us an 80% discount. Our best production city should be better than the AI's, so we're still okay, but it will be close.

1550(0)-switch York to palace prebuild

several luxury trades end next turn

Here is the save.

Got it, nice trading. I just realized a drawback of lump sums in this little variant is that we don't really help their research capacity, as they won't run a deficit.

Well I thought about that.
While its a drawback if you think about it in terms of time the game takes, its actually an advantage really.
Although since our city are almost all capped, I agree that time is sorta running against us in a way.

It seems a lot of peace are starting to be signed.

Oops, meant to post a reminder to myself last night, along these lines:

"bed_head7, how is it coming along? It has been a few days."

Followed by:

"Yeah, sure, um, I was just, uh, getting started on that."

Anyway, if someone wants to trade with me, feel free. I have not had an hour/hour and a half block of time in which to play this week, and won't tonight. But tomorrow for sure.

We are paying high unit support. No thanks. All veteran cavalry that I found are disbanded to rush any remaining buildings in progress around our empire. Soon we will be shipping them off to islands to rush as well. Maybe. I did a lot of disbanding though. I did nothing else except let tons of cities disorder on the last turn when we lost wines.

Inheriting the game, checking diplomacy. 2 Civs know Computer, I could buy it, but then again, there isn't any brokering oppotunities. Our lux deal with the Portuguese is due in 5. So that's when I will buy in.

Rush library in St. Regis.

Wait a moment, Korea has the UN?! What happened, did they build it with a scientific leader?

More importantly, we could actually lose this game, especially since everybody is furious with us. I start off by signing everybody into an RoP, getting an active hard goods trade where possible, and gifting some cash. That made most of them annoyed with us, and that's a good thing ;)

Turn 2, 1655 AD, Summerians finish the SETI, I was pre-building for it.

Turn 3, 1660 AD, Oea flips to the Portugues :(

Turn 7, forking over 20950 gold to Korea for Computers, then ship Computers to Portugual for 105gpt, over 1K gold and Silk. Summerians have Synthetic Fiber.

Turn 10, Egypt declare on Portugual. Summerian starts the Internet. That's not good. They're doing 4-turn research, while we need 6 turns of commerce to buy each tech.

NOTES:
- Where you see mine in tundra, that tile has been lumber-jacked.
- Try to keep the former Portugal cities in WLTKD.
- Korea has been steadily losing cities to Portugual.
- There is one more turn left on many lux deals. Remember to renew with Summeria first, because it will be cheaper this way. Also, If we could afford it, give them gpt instead of lux.
- The palace in Dover is a pre-build for the Internet, we don't want Summeria to get it. They just started last turn, so I think we can afford to flip the Palace one more time. i.e, I think we have about 7 more turns to aquire the tech.
- We need to figure something out to keep up in the tech game. I'm glad this game is still competitive.
- We could still lose if Korea decides to hold a vote :(

Wow, I completely forgot to mention the UN finishing. Sorry. I wasn't particularly concerned, however, since I think Korea has done some warring too. I probably should have checked with out foreign advisor to see what Korea's rep is. But they didn't hold the election, meaning they don't think they will win with the current situation. So let's just try not to piss anyone off, and maybe a vote will never be held.

I don't know that Sumeria really is researching that fast, so we need not be that concerned, I think. Maybe we can disband some more units to free up some more gold. The best thing that could happen though would be for someone else, like Portugal, to build the Internet so maybe there will be two researchers again.

Wow. Worst host ever. I think that in the original roster, you are up, TimBentley. But you two switched last time, right? Either of you can take it.

Lol my memory sucks so I always go back to OP to know whos up so I thought Tim was, if he hasnt taken it by Tuesday, I will take it.

Not a problem. I should update the roster every page at least, and I generally fail to do that. If you take it and play it tonight/tomorrow, I don't think TB will mind.

Ibt Palace in 3 turns, Id rather not take any chances with the internet, so will trade for the tech just before it finishes, that will also decrease the chance of a cascade to another wonder.
Ottomans declare on Portugal
1705 Renew furs with Americans
1710 Sumeria will not accept gpt from us, so I trade Min. for 55800 gold
Switch to Internet move shields around to make it due in 5 turns
Start building offshore platforms
Trade Ecology to Egypt for 42 gpt, Computers to Ottomans, Min. to Korea for 17639 and Portugal for 2458
1725 Portugal and Sumeria have Rocketry and Nuclear Power (must have traded ibt)
Get Nuclear Power from Sumeria for 22550
Trade Computers to Egypt, Ecology to Dutch
Start on Nuclear Plants
1730 Finish the Internet, Start a prebuild for Apollo Program
1745 Sumeria has the Laser
Get Synt Fibers for 48875 from Sumeria
Get Rocketry from Portugal for Synt Fibers and 1650 gold
Computer to Dutch
Mini to Egypt and Ottomans
Start a second prebuild (Battlefield Medecine in London)

Conclusion
we have 10K , +3.6 K /turn
are down the Laser to Sumeria
But we are only missing 6 techs to finish Spaceship, so we should be ok
We have very productive cities (6 with 70+ prod), so we will be competitive, although Sumeria has some very big cities (35??) but probably low in shield.
