The main reason I want a quick end to the Iraq war is because I'm worried that we're totally going to fall behind on tech.

Well if war weariness gets too bad they may switch to police state.
You know my "good friend" george bush? Yeah, we talk a lot on the phone, he listens to my phone calls... There really isn't a lot of privacy in terms of using technology anymore...

Don't worry guys.... when America's overseas colony costs get too high.... you can just switch to State Property!!

Nothing like a dash of communism to fix everything up! :D

Haha, talk to me in a few years.

This was pretty funny for a few posts then it got political. Anytime people gripe who don't have anyone at risk or have never put themselves at risk by being in the military during peacetime or wartime, I always want to say, "Pick up a rifle, go to the front, and make your comments there." I wonder what the men and women in uniform would do to you way out there in the sand?

It's always easy for those safe and secure away from danger to be critical.

Gees chill out dude,

It is possible to have respect for those that protect us, and those that govern us, but still have a laugh, the nature of much humour is that its context is things that make us uncomfortable and challange us, it helps everyone cope. I really don't think anyone was being that critical, in fact the basis of the thread is that we are sad gits who play too much and now are too addled to think in non civ terms, we may also be police or surgeons or single parents or have six months to live, or yes even be soldiers ourselves, but we come here to share our obsession in safety, and very occasionally have a laugh, so don't make it harder than it already is.

Well you know, I guess your LH(for the Americans) thought it was worthy to initiate a fast war with a low score CIV and bribe half of the high score CIVs in as well, only for the oil resources that CIV have, while America CIVs doesn't have it! Good strategy I must admit.
But it is one of those bad wars where you lose with high odds and get lots of problems with partisans after you conquer cities!
So losing in enemy territory = High War weariness + high costs! Sad but true! Or maybe the war itself is sad...But let's not get serious. ;)

Plus, now the relations with Iran are even worsening with a -2 for "Our close borders spark tensions" and plus the lingering -4 for "You traded with our worst enemies!" Iran-Iraq war..... :crazyeye:

how could we trade with worst enemy.. we are their worst enemy.

Hell if it were a civ game, we wouldn't have any problems at all over there. I mean, they'd be American, and Americans are proud to be Americans, so therefore they'd be proud to be American. Once in a while you'd get that loan nut Alec Baldwin threatening to leave. We'd have spies like Hilary and Edwards constantly failing to change civics, and when they do succeed it's changed right back. They use Al Gore's Internet to communicate with allies in the Taliban, while our security bureau sits by and does nothing, once n a while catching them destroying stuff after they did it.

Then we got Hugo Chavez, being annoyed with everyone, and trying to intimidate larger more powerful countries because he's got his jaguar troops.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over there with his camel archers preparing to attack everyone, and claiming he's got Technology from the 1950's.

Kim Jong-il is doing the same thing, except he's discovered Police State.

We need to start getting those future techs up. or prehaps click world builder and unlearn "Mass media" or grant ourselves 60,000 Artists, so our Culture influences the media to STFU.

I want America to hurry up and get a golden age so it can sort out its civics! :D

This reminds me of the good ol thread "1000 clues you've been playing Civ III too much".

So in other words,

you have no right to criticise the soldiers who are there to serve you unless you are one of them? ridiculous. And the little implied threat, "I wonder what theyd do to you"... theyre meant to serve the American people, not intimidate them into not criticising the govt...

and people say the US is a beacon of freedom (well not many people say it nowadays)

All I can hope for is that Russia keep gifting Chavez Jet fighters and mobile SAMs, and that Iran, China, Russia, and the central Asian republics sign permanent alliances so the US suddenly drops way down the scoresheet :)

Censure lesbian commercials in main TV channels :((
Which civics is that?
Let's make a game to see in which civics America in on right now :p
Oh I play too much CIV4 :crazyeye:

No, you can criticize. Their blood spills so you can say and do most anything you like (within the law and your abilities). All I am saying is have the strength of your conviction to say it to their face. Visit the area and get a true picture of the situation. Don't just simply rely on the press to give you your talking points -- regardless of one's liberal or conservative tendencies. I know of veterans who are for the war and some that oppose it.

I definitely respect what Jackdog had to say.

I simply didn't want this thread to turn into a political mud-sling fest. Like I said, it started out funny. Then someone had to get all personal and attack Bush. You don't have to like the man. You can even think he is an idiot. It's your opinion. But, you should find the correct forums to express those thoughts -- not here.

Besides, I like have my Civs at Universal Sufferage, Freedom of Speech, Free Markets, and Theocracy.

Why not here? I thought CIV was a political game. Look the thrad called "Dear Joao:", it turned out a discussion about the historical part of Portugal., did you see any moderator closing it?

.

And why Theocracy? It doesn't combine with the others you said :crazyeye:

.

And no, my replies here were not a direct attack on Bush. Read them again if you believe the opposite :)
