I have just purchased Civ 4 and just now installed it. I am getting a "Your machine is below minimum specifications. Civ 4 will not run on your machine." message at loadup. BUT, I have almost DOUBLE the minimum specs!! 2.2 Ghz AMD processor, 1 Gig of ram, 128 MB video card that runs other 3-D games fairly well... All is fine until I actually start to play a game, and I get a screenshot like shown below... I will try to reinstall now, but I dont understand why this game is doing this and a much more graphic needy game like World Of Warcraft runs fine...

Is it AGP or PCI-e VGA card?

You need to install the latest driver for it. Or, ATI might be better solution.

Arto.

Anyway, you should install the latest patch (1.61) and try again. If the terrain is still black, your card sucks.
You can also try some new drivers but Comraddict is probably right.

Every SIS chipset users on these forums that I've seen have the same problem. As far as I know SIS chipsets do not support TnL. Do patch but I don't hold out much hope that it will solve your problem. Upgrading may be the only solution, the card seems pretty ancient anyway even the SIS website doesn't seem to have any info on it.

I have the exact same problem expept that now that i fixed some stuff it doesnt say the min requierments pop up but the whole thing is black(expept for the forest, cities, units... like in the screenshot)and i downloaded the 1.61 version, I dont have warlords. Can anyone tell me what I should do?!?!

PS: Oh and whenever the" you built a wonder" pop up goes the video stops every secondes

pps:I still play Civ4 even though the graphics suks I still play Civ4 fine

@Mereik: for the videos, you might want to turn the videos off completely (there's an option for that under game's graphics settings).

There's also another method for the black map issue, and that is revealing the entire map via world builder. But if your graphics card sucks, even this won't help you.

Maybe, I don't know what kind of graphics card you have. But if you have the black terrain issue with game patched to version 1.61 and fairly new graphics drivers, then there's very probably no other solution but to replace the hardware.
