Inherited turn (725 AD): I take a look through our cities. I turn off the Governors as suggested but I don't disagree with any of their decisions. However, I notice we're not generating any great people points. To that end, I sacrifice some production (3 hammers) in Moscow to hire a Scientist.

Turn 3 (770 AD): Our troops discover Cologne, pausing to pillage a Horse Pasture on the way.:
Turn 4 (785 AD): St. Petersburg completes a Spearman, starts an Archer(1). Frankfurt comes out of revolt and starts a Buddhist Monastary(23) for the culture.
At Cologne, with only 20% cultural defense, we can get 70% odds with our swordsmen but I decide to wait a couple of turns for the Catapults to catch up.
I've formed a sword/axe pillaging team -- they discover Berlin:
Being on a hill, that's going to be a tough nut to crack.
Turn 5 (800 AD): Moscow completes a Swordsman, starts a War Elephant(7). St. Petersburg completes an Archer, starts a War Elephant(11).
A second pillaging team discovers Essen. It looks ripe for the plucking:
Turn 6 (815 AD): Rostov completes a Worker, starts an Confucian Monastery(21), again, to battle Arabian culture.
At Essen, I send in a Combat II Swordsman against a recruit Archer at 86% odds; he wins. Our Combat III Medic axeman takes the city from a Combat I Spearman at 99% odds. Dang, I forgot the screenshot. But we have a city on the North Coast now.
At Cologne, the bombardment begins -- 1 Catapult available now, reduces defense from 20% to 17%. Whoopeee! I'm gonna lose patience here fast.
Turn 7 (830 AD): At Cologne, I use 4 Catapults to knock the defense down to 8%. A fifth catapult gets a City Raider I promotion and goes in against a raw Archer at 59% odds and he wins. His Axeman escort completes the task, going in at 85% odds.
...
Turn 9 (860 AD): Novgorod completes an Axeman, starts an Archer(4).
Turn 10 (875 AD): Yaroslav'l completes a BM (Buddhist Missionary, that is) and continues on with its Catapult work.
Our forces have arrived at Berlin. There should be enough units there to bombard and take it easily.
My sense for upcoming builds -- we need more city defenders to free some high-quality city raider axemen who are serving garrison duty. Missionaries to spread religion in our newly captured cities will help spread culture in the north, too.
Moscow will grow in 1 turn -- we should consider adding a second Scientist there.
We're at 13/45 on our first Great General. How do we want to use him? And what does the team think about whipping some of the cultural buildings in process in our border cities to ease some pressure?
Here's a picture of our empire -- the German cities have fleshed it out nicely.
And here's
The Save. Have fun.
