Berserks01 - Be My Vassal !!! (Warlords)

Good turns there getting our econ back on track Fox. I've got it, and will play in a bit.

Turn 0 - Took a look around, notice Sally has a settler entourage in our land. I believe he might try to settle that empty spot between us and Louis. GreyFox is right, I don't think we have enough troops to attack anyone yet at the moment. I also noticed that all our cities are still 1 pop from happiness limit, so MM around for faster growth without losing the +2gpt that Fox gave us. I'll switch back once they reach happiness limit.
Turn 2 - Novrogod: pults -> pults.
Turn 3 - Sally's settler entourage wanders aimlessly around our territory trying to find an open spot to take.
Turn 4 - Moscow: phant -> pults.
Turn 5 - Buddhism and Confusionism spreads to our land. I decided not to convert to either of them.
Turn 9 - Sailing comes in, started Alphabets. We need this to so we can start trading/demanding techs, feel free to veto this since we'll only be 1 turn in.
Turn 10 - Saladin demands that we cancel deal with Monte, I refused. Louis demands ivory, I also turned him down. Novrogod: pults -> pults. Moscow: pults -> phants. Rostov: lib -> pults.

Moscow, Novrogod, and Rostov have hit their happiness limit and are on avoid growth for now. I think a few more pults/phants and we should be able to start our first war.

lurker's comment:
My first SP game on warlords I wanted to see what happened when every AI was my vassal. On the turn that the last chump fell to me, I got a conquest victory.

None of the opposing AIs denied my request for capitulation - but I made sure not to push them to being out of the game. Basically I attacked long enough for them to come begging to me to stop (ie they offer capitulation) and then made any last moves and took their offer.

Remeber that if they can grow large enough they'll drop out of vassalage, so make sure that your culture is strong enough on the "border" cities to keep theirs at bay.

Gl guys, looks like you're off to a great start. Even better when your first vassal jumps in on your second target. Happily suprised when that happened - of course when they started capturing cities... and growing ...

Thanks, bobrath :goodjob: we'll keep that in mind. I was aiming more towards leaving them with 2-3 cities before allowing them to capitulate. That way they can't grow enough to drop out, but we'll see how it goes.

Got it, and will try and play it tonight, otherwise Tuesday night

Need to do something about this

And when this comes along start bootstrapping our way up the tree

With this

And this

And then this

And this

And finally paid Kublai Alphabet and all our cash for Currency

So now we are here

And studying hard on Civil Service

After picking up Monarchy and Monotheism changed civics to Heriditary Rule and Organized Religion (for the missionaries for culture), and having picked up Calendar and connecting silks set the cities back to growing again.

Louis closed the borders and then demanded Ivory, told him to bugger off and he did not delcare. I did trade Brennus Ivory for Fish, not that we need health but we do need a friend on the other side of Saladin.

Started a war with Frederick, he is pushing us too hard in the north. Montezuma is way too strong for my taste at this point.

Frankfurt was easy

cost a cat to weaken the defenders and an axe and a sword took the city. The bulk of the forces moved north, to be joined by cats coming up from the south.

My objective for this brushfire is to push Fred back in the north, then set up to move on Monte, or the Arab. The chariot pushed all the way out to Brennus' little peninsula in the east and is now comng home by way of Saladin's southland.

The road net needs a little refining so troops can move easily from one border to another. And there is lots of sugar, and bananas, a dyes and some more silks to hook up. With markets in the bigger towns we will be set for another round of growth.

Note to next player: all citizen governors with a couple of exceptions are set on to maximize commerce. You may want to cycle them off and micromanage to your preferences. I like leaving them on while towns are growing and set to food and commerce. You may not.

That's some excellent trading you did there Bede :goodjob:

Inherited turn (725 AD): I take a look through our cities. I turn off the Governors as suggested but I don't disagree with any of their decisions. However, I notice we're not generating any great people points. To that end, I sacrifice some production (3 hammers) in Moscow to hire a Scientist.

...

Moving troops north

...

Turn 3 (770 AD): Our troops discover Cologne, pausing to pillage a Horse Pasture on the way.:

Turn 4 (785 AD): St. Petersburg completes a Spearman, starts an Archer(1). Frankfurt comes out of revolt and starts a Buddhist Monastary(23) for the culture.

At Cologne, with only 20% cultural defense, we can get 70% odds with our swordsmen but I decide to wait a couple of turns for the Catapults to catch up.

I've formed a sword/axe pillaging team -- they discover Berlin:

Being on a hill, that's going to be a tough nut to crack.

Turn 5 (800 AD): Moscow completes a Swordsman, starts a War Elephant(7). St. Petersburg completes an Archer, starts a War Elephant(11).

A second pillaging team discovers Essen. It looks ripe for the plucking:

Turn 6 (815 AD): Rostov completes a Worker, starts an Confucian Monastery(21), again, to battle Arabian culture.

At Essen, I send in a Combat II Swordsman against a recruit Archer at 86% odds; he wins. Our Combat III Medic axeman takes the city from a Combat I Spearman at 99% odds. Dang, I forgot the screenshot. But we have a city on the North Coast now.

At Cologne, the bombardment begins -- 1 Catapult available now, reduces defense from 20% to 17%. Whoopeee! I'm gonna lose patience here fast.

Turn 7 (830 AD): At Cologne, I use 4 Catapults to knock the defense down to 8%. A fifth catapult gets a City Raider I promotion and goes in against a raw Archer at 59% odds and he wins. His Axeman escort completes the task, going in at 85% odds.

...

Turn 9 (860 AD): Novgorod completes an Axeman, starts an Archer(4).

Turn 10 (875 AD): Yaroslav'l completes a BM (Buddhist Missionary, that is) and continues on with its Catapult work.

Our forces have arrived at Berlin. There should be enough units there to bombard and take it easily.

My sense for upcoming builds -- we need more city defenders to free some high-quality city raider axemen who are serving garrison duty. Missionaries to spread religion in our newly captured cities will help spread culture in the north, too.

Moscow will grow in 1 turn -- we should consider adding a second Scientist there.

We're at 13/45 on our first Great General. How do we want to use him? And what does the team think about whipping some of the cultural buildings in process in our border cities to ease some pressure?

Here's a picture of our empire -- the German cities have fleshed it out nicely.

And here's The Save. Have fun.

Brilliant trading there, Bede, and fabulous warring there, Frankcor.

Do we already have Feudalism? It is of significant (even vital) importance in this SG, so I don't understand the route to CS via CoL instead of via Feudalism (we already know Manarchy, according to Bede's screenshot).

I played

0. Looks good, but the turn sould be completed

1. Yaroslavl- catapult> library

and i'm refusing for 3 deals. this

This

And this

2. We have finished to reasearch code of laws, starting Feudalism
Moscow- elephant>elephant

3. Novgrod Archer>Catapult Rostov- Buddhist monastry>Jewish monastry
Berlin is on hill and its tough, so I sacrificed 2 catapults and swordman

We don't need more cities of freedrich now, and our economy "isn't good" lets say, so i'm signing peace

4. I'm doing 2 deals. this

and this

6. St.Petersburg- War elephant> stable

8.

9. Moscow- War elephant>Axeman, moving units to the borders near france, no units of france in our area meantime
Also, we can tell Montezuma to declare war on on france if we give him Code of laws.

Once we start accepting vassals we are going to need CoL to battle maintenance costs in the core, even more than we did before. And nobody knows Feudalism yet, so it remains expensive. With our economy I preferred trailing a little in tech rather than trying to lead.

But with Frederick on the ropes now looks like a good time to head for Feudalism, once we get some courthouses up at home.

Sorry but I think that everyone knows feudalism now

Dat's a good thing, maybe we can get it for cheap! let's hope so.

Good work guys. Nice job taking the war to them :goodjob:

How many cities does Freddy have left? We have to make sure we don't wipe him out and leave him with a couple left to capitulate to us.

Speaking of unfinished turns ... :crazyeye:

Also, another weird thing is why the save's name has AD0200 in it? Took my quite a while to locate the actual save. Also, 1040AD seems like a strange year to end (although I ened mine witha seirder year numer.

FAfter looking at the svae, I my fiorst thought was: "Damed! We are economically in a bad shape again! 20% at -14gpt is worrying..

Great, now I need to shape up our economy again ... and this time with a war ongoing ... with that in mind, the following trades were conducted:

I then sell him back the ivory with 4gpt extra.

Finally, after a long march, its time to hit on Louis city:

Longbow??? emm ... decided to throw a sword to eaken the LBM first ... but that is not be, the sword won at 20%!

IT"S BETTER TO BE LUCKY THAN GOOD.

And then an axe clean-up:

ANd then:

I kept it since it is a holy city.

IMy original intention is to play until 1130, but I press enter a little too quickly, thus I play until 1136AD.

Anyway, here is the situation: Loius has maces now

I'd also switch us away from OR (why OR when we don't have a state religion?).

>>> The Save (AD1136) <<<

Nice work with the trades.

IT"S BETTER TO BE LUCKY THAN GOOD.

I've got it. Will play later today.

Implemented OrgRel to get missionary training without monasteries. We do need to spread one or more of the religions around, for the culture if nothing else. Though it is probably less important now.

Need to get some troops to the German border, to see if we can force Fred into Vassalage.

Turn 0 - Took a look around. Nothing to change except moving an idle pult from Yaroslovl towards the war front.
Turn 1 - GS born in Moscow. Burning him will give us Philo. We don't have any city with enough beakers to warrant an academy, so I decided to burn him.
Turn 2 - Moscow: pult -> pult. Yaroslavl: lib -> phant. Bombarbed Rheims some.
Turn 3 - More bombarding of Rheims and Tours.
Turn 4 - Took Rheims loosing 1 pult and 1 phant. Tours falls with no loss. And a Great General is born in Novgorod. Left him there for next player to decide what to do with him.
Turn 5 - Noticed Louis has a galley with 1 phant and 1 longbow close to Yekateringburg, so I sent the spear from Moscow there and upgraded the archer to longbow.
Turn 6 - And I was right, he landed both right on the sheep next to Yekateringburg.
Turn 7 - The longbow heads towards our horse supply and the phant razed our sheep. The spear took out the phant, and rushed a phant in Moscow to handle the longbow.
Turn 8 - Moscow: phant -> pult. Phant heads towards the french longbow.
Turn 9 - Moscow: pult -> phant. Brennus wants us to adopt OR, it doesn't benefit us in anyway so I refused. Our war elephant took out the french longbow.
Turn 10 - Nada.

I was gonna play 9 turns to even it up, but forgot and played 10

Our stack is heading towards Orleans. We need to start building courthouses to help out with the economy.

Freddy's only got 2 cities left, and Louis has 5. Currently Louis refuses to capitulate, hopefully he'll change his mind after losing another 2-3 cities.
