Hi all, just looking for some general feedback. I am in practice mode now for some multiplayer games comming up with my friends. We usually play small or tiny maps (3 of us) with max computer civs. (varies based on map size)

As you can imagine games are fairly quick. (2-5 hours) I'm looking for some input as to the best civs for this game style. I have been practicing with the Persians, and they seem to dominate with those immortals. I've been thinking about the Celts, but 40 shields seems like a lot to be cranking out military. Doesn't that take forever to get a decent force? Any Celt players out there?

Anyhow, any ideas are welcome, I'll be practicing more tonight.

    thanks.

I think on such a small map, the Militaristic Trait and an early Age UU would be good. I do not think your game will go until the modern age, right? :)

So focus on early growth an power!

You might try playing the Mayans. They get their UU, the Javlin Thrower, at an early part of the game and having the ability to capture other units to work for you is pretty cool. Having it be a Spearman with a 2 attack works well for the early part of the game.

    My 2 cents.

I would go for any civ with annoying ancient UU's (Aztecs, Zulu, Sumeria) etc

Civ's with good defensive UU's are the Greek's and Carthigian's.
Persians are good so are the Iroquis. The Gallic swordsmen is really good so is the Legion.

The Viking Berserk is also awesome.

Yeah but his games don't last that long so the Beserk might come too late.

There's a MP strategy guide (rather, a Civ list) on the best MP civs. It's in the War Academy link from the main page (www.civfanatics.com) and is somewhere in the bottom of the page. It's an 8 meg file, since the SP and MP guides are in the same zip file. You'll see it say something like Multiplayer Strategy Guide.

Sumeria, the Celts and Maya are up there.

I once was bordered in MP by a rival who used the Babylonians. Stacks of Bowmen, defending with a strength of 2 AND getting defensive bombard horribly mutilated my swordsmen and he was able to walk all over me. Add in cheap culture and free technology you've got a pretty good MP civ.

I've beaten my brother-in-law to death with the Zulus.

The militaristic trait are good, but beware of an too early GA...

... but then again rather an early GA than none at all ;-)

Celts now sound like my choice for small MP maps.
Early UU and excellent traits for early expansion and wars.
