I have to admit, though, that the Ethiopian Omoro Warrior seems really interesting. Do those free Drill promotions stay with the unit once it upgrades to Rifle or Infantry?

they stay! and you can keep making them around a long time if you plan it right. quoting myself from the funny screenshots thread:

here's my situation:

my people might be viewed as odd i suppose. they're in the future era but they can't hold a rifle. why? because i'm ethopia and i want to be able to build/draft oromos with free Drill 1/2 for as long as i can. nobody's even close to thinking about starting a war with me so i've delayed and delayed it. edit: actually, i just realized ... i can even still build macemen

now all i can research is mass media (hell no, we won't go lose our lovely apostolic palace!), plastics, and rifling. going for plastics now, after that it's rifles i guess. computers will be an option after plastics but that's another big , i'd lose AWat/UofS/Spiral.

as soon as i learn rifling, i'll be stuck with infantry, since i already know assembly line. byebye free drill promos, hello more pop dying in a draft.

why do i need free Drill 1/2 promos if i'm so sure i can control the bad guys diplomatically? it's a game, i don't have to be logical about it *giggle*. i could have won a while ago i'm sure, but it was one of those games where i wanted to see how the world turned out.

as far as my leader, hmmz. i adore gandhi as is except for the UB. at least i have a reason to build it in peaceful games now that BtS added spy points.

i love being the dutch, but part of me feels like concentrating on the coast is a waste, since those tiles never develop like cottages do. but i like his traits now that i tried them out (i hadn't been creative in approximately forever). and dikes, oh baybee those are lovely.

the perfect combo? it really depends on the day for me. i play by mood, and often have a goal for the game in mind before i make a map. i pick my leader and map, leave the opponents random, and see whether my goal works out! so no one combo would work.
