Who is everyone's favorite standup comedian, and why?

Note: please only consider that person's STANDUP work. So if you vote Seinfeld, that means because you like his standup not because of the TV show.

My poll will surely have some glaring omission that someone will freak out over, but that person can go to hell because I don't care about their stupid omission pointing-out-ing.

Flight of the Conchords!

In the future, there will be no more elephants.

In the future, there will be no more unethical treatment of elephants

The future is indeed quite a better place

Eddie Izzard is an old man has-been.

I haven't seen a ton of standup, but of that which I have seen, I'll give my top three to Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Rodney Dangerfield. Nice topic by the way :goodjob:

Bill Hicks was the best standup ever, RIP. Steven Wright is pretty good too. UK people will be disappointed Peter Kay isn't on the list. Eddie Izzard is good too.

Pablo Francisco. At the moment. His [best] show is quite always the same, but it still works for me.

Most of the 'stand-up comedians' you listed in this poll fall into my "dislike" -category, while many "I-like-a-LOT" stand-up comedians are missing from the list...

I personally think you will get a ton of "other" votes. And many of those whom do not vote "other", vote just what they think is the best of those which you listed, not bothering to vote "other".

George Carlin

Pryor
Carlin
Izzard
Williams
And Andy Kaufman - he was a stand-up performer, no doubt, but one could say he wasn't really a stand-up comedian. His performances weren't supposed to be funny in the first place, comedy was just a by-product of his performances.

Pryor was brilliant, his ability to live into a variety of characters, either invented or real, was fantastic.

George Carlin's comedy is very intelligent and satirical.

Robin Williams is just funny with his facial expressions and lingual abilities. Smart humor too.

Eddie Izzard: I am your wife and I am banging your wife!

Nice topic by the way :goodjob:

Robin Williams, with Steven Wright, Jonathan Winters, and Richard Pryor as runners-up. Carlin and Dennis Miller should be in there somewhere too.

Edit: Damn, forgot about Denis Leary. Pencil him in too.

Don't know half of them :) And my favourites are all dutch, but my favourite english speaking SU-comedian is Denis Leary.

His best work :)
And more

I voted Eddie Izzard. Only because I seen many of his shows. The other's I only saw one or two.

The others:
Jerry Seinfeld
Richard Pryor
Chris Rock
Bill Hicks
Lewis Black

All very funny people. I still want to see one of Bill Cosby's shows. I heard they are very good.

Russell Peters

Yaaay! A canadian made the list.

Still didn't vote for him, but its still nice to see...

My favourite stand up comedian is Gad Elmaleh.

Sorry to mention a French guy, but I just don't know really American stand up comedians. Stand up comedy tends to rarely reach international fame. Anyway the guy is really talented.

Voted Bill Hicks. Woody Allen's stand up a close second.

Can't believe you missed out Sarah Silverman [pissed]
