Best Leaders for SS victory?

I was curious what you guys thought about who would be the best leaders in BTS to play for a spaceship victory. Thanks.

My opinion: Anyone with Financial.

Darius, Elizabeth or Mansa are good bets. You need a strong economy.

If things go bad for SS, you can also try cultural if you decide before 1500ish and have 3+ religions.

I agree that any leader with financial is a good choice. Elizabeth is my personal favorite (obviously).

But you may want to try one of the russian leaders since they have a nice UB for building spaceships.

In my opinion, Willem van Oranje of the Dutch. Financial for research, and a UB that boosts production for the actual spaceship construction.

Anyone with financial is a contender/ threat in a Space Race.

My favorite is Hannibal, because if you need Aluminum, you can always resort to war to get it.
Less of an issue with the introduction of corps.

Lizzie would be my other choice.


I don't really know what the best is . In BTS I've done it with Joao more often than anyone else. ( Exploration,Colonization, Corporations , economic dominance, then race to space.)

If you are going for unrestricted, then why not darius of the dutch? The money would be there and then the dikes would power your rush to space.

I'm not sure Mansa is a significantly better choice than any other Financial leader. He happens to do well in the space race as an AI, but that's mostly down to his personality. Spiritual is a great trait, but I'm not convinced it's anywhere near the best second trait for the space race. That said, if you're not using unrestricted leaders, he does have a good UB (ditto Hannibal, Darius and Wang Kon).

Perhaps the best reason to play as Mansa Musa is that you won't have to face him as an opponent. That's probably the biggest possible bonus towards winning a space race.

Mansa is best for my style for space race victory and Elizabeth is
very good too.

The problem I run into with Elizabeth is the mid game tech tree.
Banking - UB, Rifling - UU and Education --> Liberalism for space race
really splits her tech tree at a bad time and they are all important.

Pericles can be pretty good too if you can get a lot of Great Scientists to get a tech lead. In my last game I got 10 great scientists and 7 great engineers and a few of the others.

If you can get a tech lead with him, you can use a corporation like Mining Inc to help you towards building spaceship parts.
