Best way to improve the import/export demographic?

I have been playing Civlization for many years now, and I can honestly say I've not run into this problem before.

Despite having extremely active trade relations and all the relative trade-improving buildings, my demographics score manages to pit into the negative thousands.

I.e:

How can I improve this? Any help is appreciated.

Just ignore that one. It's some thing about how much commerce you give vs. how much you get. It's the least useful by far of all the demographics. With a population that much bigger than 2nd place it's not surprising. I think it's time to move up a level based off the other demographics.

I'm currently playing the Deity level, so I don't think I can go any higher. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be affecting my economy or population growth, so I'll leave it for the kids to clean up...figuratively speaking.

If you close your borders with all other civs and cease all trades you can easily get your exports-imports = 0.

But seriously, if you run a search for demographics I am sure you can answer your question. I've seen a pretty comprehensive thread in the strategy section that explains em all

The export/import line is, frankly, wrong. If (exports - imports) is negative, that means that all the other civs combined are making more money from trading with you than you are from trading with them. This is a sign that you have the most, and largest, cities, and very probably are making much more from trade than any one of your rivals. So as in the example your figure is the most-negative number, you really ought to be rated #1 and not #17.
