which wonder do you think is the best?

personally, I say:

The Chapel, which double the effect of Cathedrals
THe Internet: places a research lab onto every city on the continent

...and some others

along with the 55 other threads about this, I'd say the Pyramids, monstrous growth after a granary in every city

Personally I like Sun Tzu's or Leos Workshop. Great for building and upgrading your military.

the great wall is ok

Without a doubt.

I also like having Sun-Tzu's and Leo's combined. . .that's pretty good too.

But I'll take the Pyramids over those two.

I think the Pyramids as well. The effect never expires either.
If the effect of Temple of Artemis didn't, that would also be awsome. Great isn't it when you just have captured lot's of cities with the normal 9-aquare territory, and then capture the Temple of Artemis. After 5 rounds - BOOM - you territory is suddenly the double, and lots of score.

Of course how good a wonder is, is depending on which tribe you play (for instance, Sun Tzu is more for the money with a non-mil tribe), or map-settings (Great Lighthouse and Magellan on an archipelago map are musts)

2 other favourites of mine are Statue of Zeus and Knights Templar. The first one is very dependable since you must have ivory. I will ALWAYS go for this one ASAP if ivory is present. 200 shields for perhaps 20 AC or more - if that isn't good I don't know.

Sistine Chapel is good for religious civs, but I think J.S BAchs Cathedral is better (if not playing archipelago - in case none of them are part. good)

But all in all - the Pyramid!
(They were quite interesting in Civ 1 as well)

Fitting my playing style, definatly the GL. Pyramids are great though, as is Sistine.

the new 3 wonders
knights templar
zues statue
artimus (?) temple
are all very usefull wonders. I dont get around to building that many troops so they substitute. the temple is also useful for me, temples are the first improvment i build for happines and culture.
the internet is awsum too.

By a huge margin Pyramids.
Hoover Dam is often the game winner.
Internet would be but it comes too late in the game. I think I've only built it once or twice, milking a cultural victory.

There's many wonders that can help you win. However, I think the most important wonder is the United Nations, because it's the only wonder that can make you lose!

One wonder that never seems to come up in these threads is the Theory of Evolution. I personally consider that an invaluable wonder, as if I don't get it, I usually get a tech deficit I can't recover from (this is Emperor we're talking about though). It's really nice, because you can get Atomic Theory and Electronics in one fell swoop (which are expensive techs), and probably scoop everyone to Hoover Dam as well. And you can trade those (or sometimes even Scientific Method!) for earlier techs you may be missing, like Democracy, Nationalism, Industrialization, Replaceable Parts, etc. so it ends up being more like many more than just 2 techs. It's usually the first wonder I ever build.

As much as I like the Pyramids and Sun Tzu's War Academy, I'll never be without my ToE. I used to think of the Great Library the same way, but I can get ToE much more consistantly.

I really like leo's or sistine chapple. Leos is good for getting up your power rating and for having the most powerful military you can possibly have with the lest amount of expense. You can also sell off resources and build units older units faster with the intent of cash upgrading them.

I don't think of all the games that I have played I have ever built the Great Wall. It is pretty useless :D

Ancient age - either the Pyramid or Great Library, followed by Sun Tsu, Hoover Dam and Internet.

On the higher levels early wonders are rare. I agree with Scop that the ToE can provide that small brief breathing space in the tech race (and the desperately needed trading opertunities) and with Superslug that the United Nations is the only wonder that can lose you the game. In almost every game I try my best to get these two wonders and consider any other wonder I manage to get a bonus.

I generally kill whoever built the pyramids first since those granaries are so valuable for city growth. If I'm playing conquests I try to get the statue of zeus and knights templar both since it's real annoying when the AI's army gets free boosts even though not all that many units are created. That and it's nice to take some, say, ancient cavalry and harrass a neighbor with them until you get a GL. Longevity is a great wonder if you're milking a game. Theory of Evolution is nice also, along with the powerful hoover damn.

Well, I'd say most of the wonders are worth owning, just not worth building ;)

Only one I'd say is a must build if is the United Nations if you left your rivals alive

ToE arguement i can agree with but the most fun wonders are Zues and Templar. I mean free units that are pretty good - you get like a nice free attack stack- are they really good wonders.?..maybe not...but fun ones to have. Hoplites and ancient cav? Good attack force...
Mass them with horse if ur UU comes in medevil. and if ur UU is medevil try to get templars which is hard on emperor. Either the Keshiks, Elephants Ansars Chinese Riders or Samarri with Templers would be a good attack

I like the ToE, and all the new wonders, SoZ, KT, and ToA (useless on archipelago, though). I usually don't build the military wonders (Leo's, Sun Tzu's), and if I do, it is just so the AI or my friends don't get them. Pyramids, Oracle, always go for those. Hoover's is nice, and a must is the SMD, to keep those bloody AIs nukes away. Other wonders I go for, but are not really necessary for me.

If I'm playing a builders game with a commerical civ, I love getting Adam Smith's. It's not really necessary, but it turns a great income into an even better one. :)
