[New Feature] (beta) Cultural Components (5/6 UC)

How about 'South European'? It's currently only used for Venice. The Stradiot were from the balkan region, Banco Giro however would need to be tuned/replaced by something less Venice-centric though...
South European will include Venice, Amalfi, Italy, Papal States, Catalonia, Corsica and indeed, the name of the building was supposed to be less Italian centered but Jarcast is Italian and I am only 50% Catalan .

I haven't launched the mod yet, but for me the chosen name was "Banco dei cambi", a good compromise.

The Stradiot was chosen because it was present in many armies of the Mediterranean basin, notably Venice but also Aragon.

Ideas for a Pacific Northwest culture group:
First, clam gardens.
These were a system of "farming" clams used by the PNW tribes that massively boosted growth rates and speeds. Maybe add a unique clam resource or otherwise just a massive food boost.

Second. Great Canoe. Multiple Northwest tribes had giant seagoing canoes, up to 60 or 70ft in length, carved from a massive cedar trunk. In post-contact times these often had small cannons or swivel-guns, usually stolen from shipwrecks, and even sails on occasion (also usually looted from a wreck). They were very much coastal raiders, so maybe give it a function to raid coastal tiles.

Both good material, but they need to be different to the bonuses of existing Pacific civs.
The one that exists atm is the Tlingit
Which has a Lighthouse replacement and a Canoe already.

This easily could be a harbor and a galley/ trieme replacement. As someone who played this civ a lot, a bridge inbetween your UCs would be awesome.

The civ is currently heavily focused on trade (accurate) but a lot of these cultures were known for war, and enslavement of enemies. A boost to that would be cool. Or Salmon a resource 🤪

Not really. The Great Canoe could replace the Galleon or be a standalone naval raider unit that upgrades to torpedo boat, and the clam garden could also be standalone. Also, IIRC there's a Chinook mod somewhere around here.

Another idea: the Western European group has a unique naval unit that replaces the frigate, and it's called the ship-of-the-line. There's at least one other unit with that name per other mods, though.
Change it to "Razee"
Razees were stronger frigates made by cutting a SOTL down to a single gun-deck, as frigates have, but the hull was stronger per the SOTL ancestry.

Noticed some (potential) issues, mostly just reading through civilopedia entries
  • Viking doesn't actually have Lighthouse in its free buildings
  • Airborne Ranger is gunpowder instead of recon
  • Grocer replacements don't provide yields to Coca and Liquor
  • Sobor can only be built with a Tetraconch
  • National Exhibit doesn't give the +10% culture that the Royal Collection does
  • Dwor should probably be more 50% expensive than the base building, like the Barbican
  • Metalsmith being a Forge replacement would be more fitting in timeline and theme, is there a specific reason Windmill was chosen?
The strategic view issue is a real shame, my computer is old and bad so I usually play with it enabled so I can do other stuff at the same time while still having good performance

I think Byzantium can work as Eastern European, but Classical would also be fine
could rename the Sobor to... Katholikon? might need to find a new icon then... the Patriarchal School from this would work well https://civilization-v-customisation.fandom.com/wiki/Byzantium_(Michael_VIII)
the Voi is specifically Kyivan Rus'/East Slavic, but both components don't need to (and usually can't) fit every possible civ in the group (also maybe it should be a Pikeman/Halberdier replacement instead? closer in timeline)

The Navajo and Hisatsinom don't really fit Great Plains imo (though the Watcher is generic enough that it can fit at least), could maybe make an "Oasisamerican" group, but I don't know if there's enough shared between the various cultures there, or existing assets to pull from to make it work

Hi, VP 5.0 with this mod and UCS enabled and the leader selection screen is like this ( UCS 18.3 and cultural components 2,) thanks

We need logs.

same for me friend. I cleared cache like the above user recommended and it was fixed instantly.

The Great Canoe could replace the Galleon
Feels like a bit of a stretch. But more importantly, is there a giant-canoe model? The only canoe model I know is used already.

There's at least one other unit with [Ship of the line] name per other mods, though.
I'll hopefully find time to work on compatibility in the future.

Thanks, that's very helpful.
The Sobor thing is just a UI quirk I think, I will check.

It was at first, with reduced bonuses, but it just rammed all the Celtic bonuses too early.

For the Great Canoe, I'm wondering how difficult it would be to rig the existing canoe model with a single mast and sail. Anybody got any experience with stuff like that? As for the Ship of the Line, just rename it to Razee. I think the Capital Ships mod adds nice variety to the naval tree without going overboard. Unfortunately Industrial Era navies in civ games get excessively simplified.

Unfortunately we don't have anyone on the team who has the model magic :(

The problems with the ship are:
1) the model has 3 gun decks, it cant be a Razee, we would need a new model
2) the other mod will add a unique English SotL, but that would need to be overridden somehow

The naval capital units mod just adds a general SOTL for everyone, IIRC. As for the Razee, I think there are a couple of different frigate models available, not entirely sure.

Updated for 5.1, restoring the food->prod on the Mesopotamian Levy
Removed Scotland and Louisiana from compatibility file since they've been updated by Gwennog.

adds a general SOTL for everyone
I checked and yes + a "First Rate" for England

Fantastic mod that adds so much flavour! There seems to be an issue with the mod using a custom version of CivilopediaScreen.lua which needs to be updated:

Does Coca spawn naturally? If not, probably encountered a bug as I also saw Figs out in the wild as well.

Mods I use:
- !Horem's Aloe Vera bonus resource (v 4)
- !Jarcast's Cities of Marble for VP (v 4)
- (overhaul) More Wonders for VP
- (overhaul) Unique City States for VP
- Even More Resources for Vox Populi UCS (v 15)
- (j) Bare Necessities (v 15)
- (n) Semper Fidelis
- Historical Religions Complete (BNW or GK) (v 45)
- InfoAddict (v 22)
- 5/6 UC Cultural Diversity
- New Beliefs Mods
- Randomize City Names (v 2)

Thanks. I've updated to match the new version of the file.
Unfortunately lua files used for UI become incompatible in new versions. I'm talking to Axatin about getting the functionality into the base VP UI files so it won't happen when the files are inevitably updated again.

Does Coca spawn naturally?
It shouldn't with this mod. Perhaps it has something to do with your Even More Resources mod?
