Boys:

I may have started this in the wrong thread, and sorry if it is, but the older thread for merging BetterAI and BUG doesn't apply. So...

Has anyone been able to merge version 0.60 of BetterAI and BUG 3.6 with any success? I tried the little merge trick that Dresden gave us for BUG 3.5, which worked fine for the older version of BUG, but I lost the interface in the new version and had a CTD on the first turn.

Now, I know that BUG 3.6 has a slightly different install thing going on, but I copied cvgamecore.dll, the necessary python and XML files, and edited init.xml just like before. No luck. BUG and BetterAI work fine on their own, but I can't get them to merge properly. Any ideas? And I'm not able to debug anything because I know not how. :)

I simply can't play without BetterAI. That's just asking too much. :D

Specs:
Vista 64, standard BTS install. Mods: Varietas Delectat, BUG 3.6, Blue Marble. (Tried without Varietas, too. No luck there either.) Nothing else is special.

Thanks,
-LM

Well, my advice would be to download RevDCM, and just disable all the revolutions options if you don't like that. You can set up a straight BUG 3.6 + Better AI game from RevDCM in a custom game start up, by simply disabling all the options.

Ok, stupid questions 101- HOW do you disable everything in that mod? Playing a MP game- in the staging room, unchecked all the options (except civ renaming- that sounded potentially amusing). Game starts. Go into the BUG menu to the Rev pane, disable all the options there. (Have all players do this, and wonder what happens if only one player in a MP game turns on or off some of these options.) However, stuff is still happening- Protective is still at least being described as helping additional buildings, and some kind of battle effects happened to the other player. Can anyone help, or should I head over to the RevDCM forum, if there is one?

Looking at the RevDCM thread (does it have a forum, or just a thread in the modpacks forum?), it appears that RevDCM is considered "experimental" for multiplayer use, and judging from the fact that only the hosting player didn't lose his dotmaps upon save/reload, I am guessing BUG was installed as a single player install. So it looks like if I want to use Bug3.6 + BetterAI in a multiplayer setting, I might have to try to merge them manually. Can anyone confirm?

Yeah, for multiplayer I'd reccomend a manual merge.

Note for RevDCM creaters: glider and jdog. It would be a good idea for mulitplayer compatibility to move the RevDCM tab stuff over to a Custom Game start option, perhaps create a new box for RevDCM options. I'm really not a fan of the RevDCM in game tab in general (really poor toggling functionality of features that should be locked at game start, feels very gamy where these options are now), and as shown above, it makes the mod impossibly complex to use for a multiplayer game. Which is too bad, because previously the only issue with multiplayer was Revolutions specifically, all other RevDCM options were Multi compatible.

Unfortunately I've looked around and haven't seen anyone with instructions for how to make that work yet. :/ If anyone knows a way I would love to learn of it.

Yeah, I've asked there. It was said that it should be pretty much the same as merging in BUG 3.5.1. I have not yet tried it, but at some point I will just in case something else went wrong with the original poster's merge attempt in this thread.

In the meantime, I've discovered that the main issues I was having with the RevDCM version of the merger is in fact because what wasn't working doesn't work in multiplayer, so I may actually be content with that. But I'll probably try the manual merge anyway just as a test case and in case it would be useful to someone else.
