Please what is the differnce? I play Civ III - the original version. I have tried to download a couple of scenarios but the game wont recognise the the new scenarios. Please advise me of what i should do.

.bic is for civ 3 vanilla. .biq is for Conquests. BTW, I highly recommend purchasing conquests. Its cheap, mods are made for it, and it is a better game.

Additionally, there is also .bix, which is for PTW. However, these can be read by Conquests.

Original Civ3 (aka vanilla) uses .bic files
The first expansion pack, PTW (Play the World) uses .bix files
The 2nd expansion pack, C3C (Conquests) uses .biq files

You can use a later expansion to play an earlier save file, (though you may get some odd results in certain places) but you can't use the original to play the expansions.

Your best bet is to buy Civ3 Complete, which includes all 3 versions. It's $17.95 at Amazon.com. Good luck! :)

    Edit: Oops! Double x-post.

    Worth every penny though. :)

I actually prefer C3C over cIV, because I don't have to know coding to be able to mod it. And I like the Civ III artillery bombardment and unit attack/defense combat style instead of the Civ IV artillery attack and unit strength one.
