This is my first post though I have been lurking here a lot over the past months. So hello all, love the site, hope to spend a lot of time here in the future...
But anyway, the point of this post is just that I've been wondering when programmers will be able to create an AI that can accurately gauge army strength, because I've been playing 4x type games for a long time and the AI still seems to think that a horde of hoplites will do the job against entrenched musketmen with cannon support... lol.
To be more specific, I've been playing on king with Egypt. In a recent game I started near Greece and went to war early as I thought that was a good idea with the War Chariots and all. I gave myself a pretty good lead over alexander, took over one city in a good place and made peace. As the game progressed Alexander repeatedly declared war, lost against a smaller number of superior tech troops, and then begged for peace.
I would really like to see some AI that can recognize that when facing superior troops just having a whole ton of your own isn't always going to work...
