I hope this is the right forum for this. If not, sorry.

I was just thinking that there should be a biological weapon similar to nukes that you get when you research medicine (req. genetics or something to build)... Or maybe as early as biology but reqs. medicine. Or it could require a certain number of labs or hospitals...

Any thoughts?

It's been suggested before, and it really doesn't seem that bad. The only downside is there have been few intentionally engineered pandemics in the world (but then again, we never got SDI off the ground...). It couldn't be too powerful, and you don't really offer many ways to implement it. Thanks to the new system of trade routes, the diseases could spread using a similar algorithm to that of religions, but what exactly would the effects be? Simple increased :yuck: in the city, I believe, would suffice.

yeah i think it would probably target :yuck: in the city. Now you could go towards hurting the economy to wholescale destruction of a city. It could also effect the food in the city and the population would be effected as well by creating a shortage. it could also turn into a pandemic and possibly wipe out a large amount of the civilzation thats targeted. Deadly Warfare, possibly a scud missile

I was thinking that it eroded a city population as well. Increased :yuck: would be similar to eroding the population. Or perhaps it could un-develop cottages. This would be a great way for civs in the middle of the pack to slow the prodution/development of the leading civs.

Biological Weapon
800 :hammers: (500-1000 maybe)
Can spread a biological pandemic.
Requires 5 labortories.
Requires Medicine.

Biological Pandemic increases :yuck: in a city, can spread via trade routes, and can decimate towns and villages.

Those are just some thoughts.

sounds like`a good idea :goodjob:

I was thinking it could be a wonder.

Bioengeneered Plauge
(req: Rocketry, Medicine, Genetics)
Allows you to build Bio Weapons missles. Reduces population of any city by half, kills all millitary units - buildings and improvements are left untouched.

There are a lot of ways it can be done in game terms. I think it's high time really, it's already a reality in our world.

That's way overpowered. Just launch a single weapon, then send in a tank or commando to capture any city? Not even the nukes are that powerful. Furthermore, we don't currently have any bioengineered plagues in the world. Bioweapons would be nice near the end of the tech tree (right along with "Fusion," "SDI," and the "Space Elevator"), but certainly not as early as medicine, and they should probably only cause severe unhealthiness (since this will effectively annhilate the food supply, large cities would quickly get a lot smaller). An ICBM-borne bioweapon would probably be a bit impractical, not to mention difficult to hide; any bioweapon would probably be released as a Spy action (an expensive one, at that).

I like that idea, especially when the global trade economy brings the disease right back and bites you in the behind.
