Birth Of An Empire: Game Thread. Again.

Since the previous update, Pinman and I revamped the entire resource structure. Therefore, since no one really knew where the resources were at the time, we gave everyone one resource in their cultural borders and put one well within reach.

And we will be adding more resources at some point - as for when, you'll just have to wait and see!

Please read the rules! They have now been finalized, and are 100% BRAND NEW.

You may ask questions of clarification, and inform us if we missed something, but please do not ask us anything if you haven't read the rules. Please don't even post until you've read the rules!

Trust me, this game is about to get a lot better. We have a bunch of brand new ideas, and we truly think you'll enjoy them.

Let the true games begin!

{If you read nothing else, read the sections on the Stability and the Objectives. Both are very important and were just edited today.}

Just reading the objectives part. I don't think anyone would blow up the Earth just for a lunar colony. I mean all those resources going to waste and if something goes wrong one the colony your screwed. A more realistic victory would be a colony and weaponizing the Moon. I mean I think you can control the world if you turn the Moon into a giant weapons platform. Just my two cents on the realism of that.

mericary has a point.

Perhaps more reasonable would be creating a space-based weapon that can kill everyone on earth outside of your empire, or perhaps wipe out their governments and armies so you can swiftly take control of them?

We could do something like that. We had no realistic objectives, so we just threw something together. Pinman and I will discuss it, and we'll change it to something more realistic. Besides, it's a going to be a long time before any of you need to worry about conquering the moon. Worry about wiping the world out first ;)

Errr, Pinman, does my infrastructure suck so much that I don't have any, or is that an error?

Did you put 'build x amount of infrastructure' in any of your orders?

Pick a name, and give me an idea for a bonus. If its good, your Religion is made.

I suggest that, since it is a religion based on harmony with the environment, that it be called Naturalism. A tribute to the tropical rainforest that sustains the nation of Amazonia. Since it is a peaceful religion, believers will find that their nations are more stable (+3% stability per member), and are able to thus expand and assimilate more land.

On another topic...I just noticed I had every technology. Are there no more technologies for me to research?

More techs will be introduced very shortly.

@SS18: What are you talking about? You still don't have Masonry, Hunting, Iron Working, Religion, or Mathematics. ;)

@Choxorn and Merciary- I wrote the objectives, and therefore inflicted my cynical view of modern society on them, but something along those lines is fine too.

@D'artagnan- You could be right about that. I'll check it and correct it asap. Sorry for the mishap.

@SS-ICBM- You would be copying Buddhism's bonus exactly, which is fine if thats what you truly want.

@Everybody- You may have noticed that we owe you an extra 5 GPT thanks to your resource. This will be incorporated en masse next update. On another note, BL will insure that we meet the deadline this Sunday, so we truly need orders.

I'm going to have hard time with the deadline. I'll have to work tomorrow too.

How many hours do you have you add on/take away to get from EST to GMT?

Also, when trading resources, do you get the 5gpt for your resource + another 5 gpt from other countries resource that you're getting?

Also, could you please clarify: If I researched sailing I can trade with Egypt. Could I also send my trade ships down the river nile to trade with kenya? If I walk an inch (or less) to get to a river ouside my territory, can I then get of the river and trade with a country an inch or less distance away from the river? Can I trade with Amur and Killfire's country basically?

EST is GMT -4.

Trading resources nets you +5 GPT from trading. You still get +5 GPT from having your own resource in your country. Basically 1 untraded resource = +5 GPT, traded = +10.

When wondering about trade, look at it this way. Think of it as a two way 'road', and that both nations need to travel this 'road' to get to another nation. Certain techs will open certain parts of the 'road' to make travel possible. Currently, fishing opens rivers and lakes as a possible 'road,' while sailing opens coastlines. The 'land' trade distance is also apart of this 'road,' with the wheel and hunting increasing the land distance. Also to clarify the land distance further, we use whichever nation's land trade distance is shortest in determining if one can trade with another.

Right now Kol, you can 'walk' (meaning using land distance only) to Greece, Russia, Hamburg, Amuria, and Norouth Zibidiwah. Once both you and Egypt research sailing, you two can trade.

As of now, we don't have a tech to allow trade through another country. The reason we're making this a tech and not a player decision is otherwise everyone would allow trade through another's country and feasibly one could go around the trade distance restriction and trade with almost anyone.

And if it seems complicated now to everyone (which I admit, it is, but only for realism at this stage), it will be much easier as soon as everyone grows and techs things.
_________
Any other questions about who one can trade with should be asked via the pm, as to limit the amount of personal questions that appear in the forum. I'd like to keep the forum open to game discussion as much as possible and not for individual questions. Same thing if you think a correction needs to be made with the stats, please pm and we'll take a look at it. Thanks :)

As for the order deadline, well, I'm sure you all wanted a regular update, so this will be enforced. We're giving everyone a week pretty much to get their orders in, so we won't be doing any extensions to accommodate anyone. I'm sorry if this seems a bit harsh, but with two GM's now that want to keep this game alive and moving, this strict deadline is necessary.

@Choxorn and Merciary- I wrote the objectives, and therefore inflicted my cynical view of modern society on them, but something along those lines is fine too.

Pinman, I'm a cynic too, that's why I'm only questioning the loss of resources by destroying the Earth not the loss of lives. Plus I think making a giant weapons platform capable of destroying the Earth would likely cause you to conquer the world.

Objectives changed for 'realism.' Read and comment please.
