Black screen upon selecting DirectX

I've searched a number of different forums for this problem and tried a couple different solutions (deleting all the .wmv files, updating graphics driver, restarting my computer, steam, etc.), but it still isn't working.

Basically the problem is what I said in the title: I click Civ 5 from Steam and then I select my DirectX choice, and then it loads a black screen.

Anyone have any solutions they can share? Thanks in advance!

Yes! Until a few days ago (I hadn't played in a week or two)
