I recently got a new iMac to replace my obsolete 10.3.9 and civ runs absolutely beautifully. I am in love with the game once again. However, I have run into an odd graphics glitch where buildings, resources, weapons etc. go funky ass black.

Specs.

iMac version 10.5.6
Processor speed: 2.66 ghz
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics

So anyway, I'm getting funky ass black graphics. What patch do I need to download and will it screw up my very fast, pretty colors and sounds gameplay (I'd rather not have crashing and lagging again). All graphics settings are to the highest quality in game.

One other thing, I remember downloading something to fix the size of boats in game (They're f'in huge!), does anyone remember what it is or where to find it?

I've seen a post somewhere suggesting that you can fix this by turning off fog of war, but I don't now what else it affects.

There's a mod called Better Ship Scale that may do what you want.

I have seen this problem under Windows as well. The solution there is to alt-tab out of program and then back in. It seems to be a memory issue and will occur more often with larger maps, larger mods and towards the end of the game when you have more cities/units.

I do not believe that there is any real "fix". However, I would caution you to start saving the game more frequently when you start to see this happening. In many cases it is an early indication of a MAF.

Not really. It is a specific type of crash, usually, but not always, accompanied by the message "Memory Allocation Failure". There is a specific thread for how to eliminate or minimize the occurrence of this crash in windows - http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=225205.

I did not think it occurred on the Mac, but I am have never heard one way or another.

I've never had one so far although I'm not sure whether that means anything or not (out of the five or so years I've owned a mac, and the two that my dad has)

I am only aware of MAF errors occurring in CIV IV. I have a MAC - I am just playing the Civ games in a Boot Camp partition.

This happens to me sometimes after playing for a long time. I always just save, and restart the program...
