Blitz vs March on Melee?

march, although some games it's better to just use every promotion for instant heals

2 situations I would prefer blitz:

- I am playing as Japan
- I am in cleanup mode, mopping up obsolete units and want to kill them twice as fast

Otherwise it's not terribly useful for melee units, because 2 attacks will leave you very little hit points if any. March is great in almost any circumstance.

I almost always go march first. Most turns you don't even have the option of attacking two things (or attacking then retreating) anyway. Only time I'd get blitz first is if it would make an immediate difference (city looks like it needs 2 more hits but I only have one unit left), or with janissaries/jaguars.

March then Blitz for melee tanks, as their primary job is to stay alive.
March definitely first for Immortal and Mongolia (+2 and +3, respectively).
Blitz first for Jaguar and Jannisary's upgrades, for they can heal much faster by killing faster.

March first, Blitz if playing an ottomans' janissary rush...attacking the same target unit twice to kill it and be healed back to full is really awesome...and 3 melee units with blitz can land 6 attacks in the same turn on a city, that's generally plenty to take the city from full to down in a single turn unless the city has over twice the units' strength.

Hell, I've taken one of shongai's size 10 city defense 50 with a single super upgraded blitz (but no march yet) janissary -> mech inf. 4 attacks the same turn, went from 9 health to 5 health and had a huge laugh(was one of their few left cities I intended to take, I was at no harm of losing the unit for launching alone...even on Deity)

My lifetime first Deity win was through a mongolia Dom and I didn't use a single Keshik :p (was pre .275). Khan's healing was just absurd when AIs didn't have so many damn units that they could zerg your LS with 4-5 of them the same turn losing a couple but actually killing your precious!

I concur though for a keshik rush I would probably take double attack (or w/e it's called for ranged). Not as great as blitz (or keshiks would be absurd...5 ranged attack per turn per unit...) before taking march. Their baseline 1.5 exp bonus and double attack will speed their next level so much that march will be ultra quick anyway.

Mongolia uses melee?

March on Mongolia's melee units is pretty awesome when escorted by a Khan. They show up late to the battle, but will be at full health and ready for cleanup & repelling counter-attacks. For me at least, it frees up my Keshiks so they can just keep beelining to the next target.

Khan with March melee is so overpowered that I don't play Mongolia anymore

blitz first to get the 2x attacks which will eventually give you the XP faster to get you March.

On some rare occasions where I'm in a defensive war, I'll grab medic/march before blitz. Cover randomly shows up if I have to deal with too many ranged units.

does march count as "healing" action and the Khan's healing count in? or does the unit still have to stand the turn and be on heal action.

It still counts as healing. That's the point. You take whatever actions in the turn you want and then heal as if you'd taken no action. March + Khan is an endless carousel ride of beat-downs.

OH DAMN. i never KNEW that... now i can see why Mongols are so overpowered. the straight kesh are mighty but that is crazy.
go my people! WOOT

Of course, go with 2 Khans -> you don't get +2 heal for unit Khan is sitting on (only adjacent units)
