I used this tactic in the last game i played as the Chinese( Riders were the best UU). Anyway I was planning to invade meh neighbor, America. Anyway, I loaded meh borders with nutin but riders and plenty of workers behind that. So I went in to America and raised as many cities as I could before all my riders were killed. As soon as they left to America, I got my workers to plant forest on the outside of my borders. I built them as far as I could before losing all my troops. Well then countered and by the time they got throught all the forest I have another Team of Riderz their to fight back.

Well how do you like it? Anything you would change?

I like making forests on my forts to increase the defence even more. The artificial barrier is very great for stopping an attack, and is very important as cavalry or modern armor come into play, or if you have the Chinese as your neighbors. It is a great idea that isn't used enough considering its usefulness.

I like the Idea but doubt I will ever put it into play. Seeing as I have never lost a war yet in civ3 (I over compensate a little prefer wars with 30+ units before the start and 100+ before end) I see this as a tactic that would just slow my internal growth. Nice tactic though.

I agree with the forest tactic I use it myself many times in the Industrial Age if i dont have access to tanks it helps me counter any other nation's offensive supeiority.

While it certainly sets the Americans back alot, I don't see that it benefited you alot. Where the Americans much larger than you and you simply wanted to wear them down a bit?

I usually prefer to annex neighbouring enemy territory, usually capturing the cities rather than razing them and resettling the land. By not building alot of Workers, I'd been able to build quite a few Pikemen to follow up and garrison captured cities, and while I would probably not cause as much damage to the Americans as your tactic does (unless I simply carried on till all America was mine), I'd be strengthening my own empire in the long run.
