Blockades: are they working?

Has anyone done a detailed treatment of naval blockades in Beyond the Sword? I can't figure out whether or not mine are working.

• If I'm not at war with a civilization (but without Open Borders), and a ship creates a blockade from outside their cultural borders, does it block trade?
• If a Privateer creates a blockade from outside cultural borders, does it block trade?
• How can I tell how much income a blockade is making for my civilization?
• If I am at war with a civilization, and a non-Privateer unit creates a blockade, does it create income for my civilization? How can I tell how much?

a) I don't think so. My understanding is that only Privateers can blockade when not at war.
b) as long as it covers the city
c) only Privateers generate cash and only during peace. You will get a message telling you how much it generates each turn.
d) no - see answer to c) above.
