K, I know if you do them with a Privateer you can get cash ... but other then that what does it do?

Does the computer loose the ability to use any of the water tiles? Is just see lane trade routes shutdown?

Just looing for some clarification if you don't mind.

I use them to get that cash, and to kill off his navy. So, when I get combustion and oil, I can upgrade them to destroyers if I need to and they are already upgraded.

Plus, I love proxy wars. :scan:

If his trade routes are by sea, it will remove it and force them to build one by land. Privateers not only block his trade routes and give you :gold:, but they will give you several free Great Generals.

The city can not work the blockaded water tiles. Might cause quite a lot of starvation, i.e. in island cities dependant on seafood.

Also trade routes in the city are cut, if the city is within blockade range.

Clarify please:

Can not work blockaded tiles... meaning one blockading ship can prevent the city from working any of its water tiles?

Trade routes cut: Land as well as intercontinental? Does the city lose access to trade-route resources?

Also: One ship in blockade mode creates the above effects on all costal cities within 6 tiles, and collects trade route bounty from all cities within 6 tiles, True or False?

Yes. None of the tiles within the displayed blockade radius can be worked by the city[is], so in theory you can criple more than one city with just one ship[stack] - if the cities are close enought.

Why would blockading cause the city to lose land routes? That would require a roadblock, which can only be done by declaring war. (unless you are playing crossroads of the world scenario using raiders.)

But if the civ is on a lonely island, and you totally cut them off with blockades, will they then loose their traded recources?
