Ok so ere' we go again, yet another Bandwidth Hogging Boff-0 filled with more screen shots of Questionable Play(TM) though a few things have changed.

First and foremost, Grover22 has been inducted into the S.ilver and Liquidated initiated Boff-0 team. Why? For what reason does Grover enjoy Boff's, what evil plans does the puppet that lives in a trashcan have? We may never know..... wait that's oscar huh.. what was grover, oh that emo blue guy that was always running about flapping his arms in panic eh.

Welcome Grover!

So Each of us had a little piece in the settings of this SG, Maybe Emp Difficulty next time eh?

So recap, Boff1 and 2 were based on the Custom Cont script which seems to LOVE placing you in "really crappy starts" which we don;t have the common sense to just reroll. Boff-03, though another one of those "For Gawd's sake reroll that ice cube map you idiots!" actually is rolling up to be a domination win for some odd reason... A win? for a Boff? WTH? We don;t know either.

So here are the settings for This Edition of SG's played questionably.

Nice hat man.

UU and UB are so late in the game, Who cares? Ok Gold whoring Supermarkets and Super marines.

The map is a standard cheesecake Continents map
Spoiler :

All settings are Monarch standard with the addition of permanent alliances (on account everyone hates us so not bloody likely we'd manage it)

Game doesn't actually start until Boff-03 officially finishes with Grover's invasion of England. As boff standard though here are the choice of maps from which we pick one. Sorry we don;t move the warrior around:D

All games are rerolled from scratch meaning leaders change each map... yes 5 different monty's to take over 5 different continents!

Map A (River Pigs)
Spoiler :

Map B (Coastalish Flood Gold)
Spoiler :

Looks like that's ocean to the west.

Map C (coast corn gold)
Spoiler :

Map D (uh green!)
Spoiler :

Map E
Spoiler :

Ok so 4 people scheduled for this edition of Boff and max we really want is 5, so that leaves one slot open. Yeah right as if we can find a 5th idio er I mean Player!

Keep in mind if you DO want to join, even after Liq did his best to scare you off, we have a few rules in the spoiler tags.
Spoiler :

This SG is mainly because silver and Liq replace solo games with SG's as we cannot focus well enough, thankyou, on our own. Not really short attention span, more like too much booty shakin music going on in the background to min max whipping.

As such if you really want to join this game
A. The report is as important as the game play. - If you cannot write up a report and post it so it's actually readable and explains *why* you just chopped half the wonder earmarked trees to speed up archer production then please don;t bother hehe.
B. Try to play. If you don;t have the time to play a turn set AND properly report it just skip. Rather not get a rushed hit-next-turnx15 that lands the sg into trouble... again. we can do that just fine in solo games thanks.
C. Actively participate in the SG discussion and follow along with what the team agrees on.

If you cannot devote the time and effort, this doomed sg really doesn't need the help hehe. Other than all that, peeps welcome! The more booze/humor brought, the better.

Cheers, Liq! Glad to see this game up (and glad to be on the team!)...

My opinion on maps:
A: Too easy. We have Pigs, lots of hills (one of them bare :hmm:), and river...
B: Tricky... Settling 1S of the Corn might be tempting, but I bet we lose out on a resource currently in the fog.
C: Actually decent; We have good food, production, and commerce. A hidden resource aswell, I would guess. Then again, we have coast (and that hill up there is desert).
D: Could be fun, actually. Not really any visible resources (but two bare tiles), but lots of forests for chopping :hammer:
E: We could take this aswell, good early resources, a single bare tile, river, and good resources for another city nearby...

Anyway, C, D or E would be best by me.

Welcome DE!

Boff03 is almost done so should start this thing soonish.

Barring outrageous events (see boff03 lolz) the thumbnail version of our strategy for this run is to play out the spec econ to a tee (basically for Grover). Don;t get me wrong, don;t exactly need to twist Liq's arm to whore the Phil Trait (Liq's Favorite), but Grover wants a solid SE game for personal plunder! Who is to complain?

So that entails the Mids , the Parth and the Pacman. Ok earthlings call it the great library, whatever. That means a hammer heavy Capital with lots of disposable trees is best since the Mids are hardly a whippable wonder last time I checked tho silver is not to be underestimated. Oh and if EVER we can build the SOZ just to keep that broken effing wonder out of the hands of a lunatic like the idiot we are planning on attacking.... grab it.

So yeah A roxxors! Hills, pigs, nice mix of forests plus a Mysterious Blank Plains Hill (c) and a solid river. "too easy" you say, and a liq agrees.

In B, I was really studying the the NW tile and am certain that's coast there. Moving to the west would really foul up that entire area if so, such that settle in place or forget it would be a liq's idea. If anything, that Floodplain just out of the capital's BFC is as much a harbinger of a great 2nd or 3rd town as is E's rice hehe.

C is kinda meh as almost 1/3rd of the capitals is coast and there's zero fishies out to make it up. That and those single tile stump rivers really piss in Liq's Wheaties as the corn isn;t even irrigated:lol:. desert nearby hints at stone though.. so yeah decent. Just don't like it sir.

D is Interesting, 3 tiles just sitting there bare naked.... The river terminates at capital but wanders north away from the southern pole and can be seen north of the naked hills plains hill. Not a single opening food means a food resource must be close by, hopefully irrigated=p

E is balanced though I'm dubious about wine since we'll be going rep if we can snag the mids, meaning Monarchy is sort of out of our way. Also, liq gets really annoyed by rice tiles that have no irrigation as they are of dubious nutritional value until civil.

So yeah A seems the strongest of the bunch (too easy?), B or D.

So map D is leading at halftime 2 to 1!

Cheers!
-Liq

Glad to have you onboard Diamondeye!

I see Liq got the starts rolled already, and the comedy as well  As for the maps?

A: Wow almost all tiles in the capital look to be irrigable at the moment. Pigs not exactly a stellar food source (sitting on the hills taking mining space...), but that capital is strong, with a high probability of metal. If it's not on the hill just north of the settler, there's still plenty of places for it to pop. Very strong... and yeah, too easy :crazyeye:

B: lol, Liq has a sharp eye seeing the river dumping into a body of water. If we do take this start, be sure to move the warrior up onto the gold hill, to see how much space we have to work with. In place gets neither gold nor silks, and it looks like there's only one more blank tile to the west that we might have a resource on. Upside is that corn is irrigated from the get go. Very nice food supply.

C: Meh. The gold looks exciting, but the river is clearly a 1-tile job generated to strengthen the starting spot. There is abundant food, but strangely no seafood in sight, despite water eating up nearly half of the BFC. Two ocean tiles as well do not excite me... The two bare grass tiles in the BFC suggest some sort of strategic resource to me. However, I see jungle immediately south of the start, and a desert hill right beside the BFC suggests we won't have much clean territory (worker abuse!).

D: Nothing at all in sight, but I count at least 4 bare tiles in the fog that may hold something. Also, 2 blank hills and a blank riverside tile? Sounds like horses and a metal (or two). A mysterious map for sure. We start fairly southward, as you can see snow on the bottom trees. So it's unlikely anyone is down there, and we'd be able to snap up any resources there at our leisure.

E: The river gives us some nice irrigation, and an excuse to destroy trees. Pigs and cows for food (although again, pigs do not excite me), and wine, although having Monarchy low on the priority scale kinda hurts that. Our warrior has a good view of the surroundings and there are nice hills and rice to feed a second city. Rice is kinda meh though (weakest grain), and since we are playing continents means that we probably will be missing either corn or wheat.

I'll vote for either D or E I guess. A is good, but again, obviously strong with uber hills...

I believe I will lurk this one with interest. Always trying to learn more about playing a good SE game.

Here's my ranking of the rolled starts from best to worst.

A. Could settle in place and get the extra hammer from the plains hill. Pigs for early food and lots of forests to chop.

E. Cows, pigs, and a river. And eventual wine. Nice food to start, and again some trees to chop for mids.

B. Lots of specials and a floodplain if we settle SW. And lots of trees.

D. I see nothing great about this, but I guess that's the point. Likely that some resource will appear later? I'd rather go with the devil I know.

C. Too many useless water tiles.

Since it seems like A is deemed "too strong," I'd cast my vote for E.

Grover

okie so 3 votes E 3 votes D, Liq can suck it up :p

So here's E.

Cheers!

Yeah, Liq is pretty random in the counting schemes. Well, myself and Diamondeye don't mind D or E. Liq prefers D, and you Grover prefer E. So that's how weird vote totals appear

I've got the start, and it unfortunately looks like I'm leading off. AGAIN! Hope for no :smoke: this time. I'll move the warrior or something to discuss settling.

Ok. This is a good time for me to pick your brains.

I assume we wait until size 2 before building a worker? Maybe even size 3? We build warriors until then? (Would scouts be better if they were available?)

We tech animal husbandry first for the pigs and cows? Or do we do agriculture first because we'll need it anyway and it cheapens AH? And do we do hunting first for the same reason?

Where does bronze working fit in? Ack. Wrong civ. We start with Agri. Makes my question above seem foolish.

Grover

America Starts with Agril and fishing. so AH first. After that, mining and BW so we can chop and see if we can skip archery. Oh and AH needs hunting and/or Agril to even tech.

yeah DE was C D or E, liq was B or D, Silver was D or E you were E B

D and E = 3 each ehe :crazyeye:

Let the embarrassment begin!

Cheers!

4000BC (0):

Well, it looks like I'm leading off again...

So yeah, move the warrior NE to expose the plains square, since he can't reveal anything else...

I see no reason not to settle in place, so I do that.

I wince, as all the outer tiles to the south and west appear to be plains...

Dialing a Warrior first. 11 turns.

Also queuing up Animal Husbandry. 18 turns.

3975BC (1):

We pop the hut that was visible, and get 76 gold...

3950BC (2):

Zzz... Warrior moves north to the visible hill, revealing some more silk and wine.

3925BC (3):

Zzz...

3900BC (4):

Zzz...

3875BC (5):

Great, not again...

3850BC (6):

Well things have just got more exciting with Toku around... We are going to head north in an attempt to find where Toku came from.

3825BC (7):

I spot Toku's borders to the north...

BUG says our borders are popping next turn, so his probably are too.

3800BC (8):

Zzz...

3775BC (9):

Zzz...

3750BC (10):

Zzz...

3725BC (11):

Zzz...

3700BC (12):

Buddhism is FIADL...

3675BC (13):

Zzz...

3650BC (14):

The warrior finished this turn, and we grew to size 2 as well. AH is in 4, so dialing up the worker in 18.

3625BC (15):

Well, this is what we can see of Toku's capital.

Will be tough to punt him this time, as he won't be able to quarry the marble till much later...

3600BC (16):

We get another 76 gold from a hut...

3575BC (17):

Panthers sneak up on our south warrior and attack. Ouch, he's hurt. Going to flee back into borders to heal.

3550BC (18):

Dial up Mining next in 9 turns. It seems no horses in sight yet, but my scouting has been pretty lousy so far.

3525BC (19):

A hut gives us 55 gold...

3500BC (20):

Zzz...

3475BC (21):

Zzz...

3450BC (22):

zzz...

3425BC (23):

Zzz...

3400BC (24):

Hinduism FIADL.

3375BC (25):

Zzz...

3350BC (26):

Zzz...

3325BC (27):

Ok, so we have an isolationist to the north, and a psycho probably to the south...

Dialing up Bronze Working so we can find metal for these nutcases. 19 turns, ugh. Well we need to destroy trees too.

3300BC (28):

Zzz...

3275BC (29):

Our warrior gets attacked by a lion and wins. Going to 2XP, so buying Woody 1.

3250BC (30):

And the animals are going wild it seems. Panthers attack our other warrior, and get beat down flawless.

There's a bear near the river mouth to the north, so our warrior is running the other way as we are hurt.

A map showing S.ilver's bad scouting...

Worker done in 2 turns, he'll have lots to do. We also have stone very close by, so we're fairly good to go on the Mids...

Figures the tiles we cannot see are all plains. Well liq never liked this map so :p

Ok so 16 turns on BW and we have that mysterious blank tile to reveal.

2 turns on worker and then a couple of more warriors while we grow.

Not much to say til BW comes as there's alot of scouting to be done in the meantime to open the map some more.

one thing I do notice btw is a serious hammer town nearby.

Other than the goodies you can easily see in the screen shot, the hill count (not counting city location) is 5 grass one plains. There's a few more tiles to scout which can only be good. Total ship spamming hammer town if I've ever seen one.

Will play to BW in a bit.

Cheers!

hello, i'd be interested in joining. if accepted it would be my first real sg (tried one with my brother but basically i do all the discussing and he just does what he feels like for 20 turns!) not much of a boozer but i hope to be comical (with my reports as well as game play) currently am trying to move up to emperor. thanks for the consideration.

ooo a Cathy Avatar cannot be bad! Hola N.Green and welcome. If you feel up to a boff game then sure thigns, only reservation I'd bring is please at least peruse a boff03 or (notmonty) boff02 on how we appreciate reports to be done. I only say this because the first SG I did all the way back in fs-1 was a *more* than few fun hours of banging my head against a copy of photoshop trying to make a screen shot that did not exceed 600ish pixels wide heheh.

That all said, and if boff03 doesn;t scare ya, welcome! Liq is always willing to share his hard won PhotoshopFU secrets if one cares to endure them.

Playing turns now!

Cheers!

Ok another madcap boff and so much GREEN this time.. well other than in the southwestern part of Washington's BFC.. sigh.

SO in Typical Boff style we get Toku to the north a good distance and a khan just south of us in unscouted areas. Where is Monty?

So 2 turns on worker, 16 on BW and the north only needs a bit of fog clearing to finish up. Nice job scouting Silver, considering our neighbors.

Looking at our town, the hammers this place can bring to the table are so pathtic it's doomed to the life of a GP farm (can farm ALL those tiles!!!) or cottage cheese container. Considering we need a GP farm, well time will tell eh?

Time to dodge the wildlife!

[1]3225 BC

Sparky, the woodie 1 warrior is being chased by that bear.. just going to run to washington's culture to heal up as this bloody beast is blocking passage north.

Benny, our warrior south, spots a set of cows near the horses and nearby jungle... hmmm there's some food for the pony rides!

[2]3200 BC
Our first Worker is born in Washington and khan's hills2 scout pops up from the fog south of Washington. Great ok well time to spam a few warriors to help scout and let Washington grow.

[3]3175 BC
Warrior south (that's Benny!) gets accosted by wolves for the easy win.. promote him to woody1 and gets a turn to heal before moving on.

[4]3150 BC
Khan's scout is heading up to bear territory so hopefully it gets punked =)

[5]3125 BC
Area south of the gold has a nice river running north and hooking east to dump in to the ocean... nifty land.

[6]3100 BC

ooo ok well Sparky the northern warrior uncovers the fog just north of Washington and a bear replaced Khans scout hehe, Hmm Liq smells a fight. Think a khan scout just got eaten by a flawless bear.

[7]3075 BC
Wow khans scout beat the bear but meanwhile, Sparky manages to snag the hut for....

well WTH indeed.. was so expecting barbarians. That simplifies things a bit eh?

Seems the Khan Scout that lived is a combat 2. hmm had two scouts in the area, not good.

Benny is drawn to the east of Washington as that land south of the gold is looking like a nice location

[8]3050 BC
Doh! the mystery tiles of That red dot town I posted before are Mountains, plains and coastal desert hehe. ok so move red dot south of the river for the win then.

And Hold the beef, Bacon is IN. Effing governor moves work off the wine hehe.

[9]3025 BC
Khan's scout is back fog busting for sparky... so nice of him.

So red dot ton picks up a plains wine tile just north of the hill, that's a nice town.

[10]3000 BC
Wow Whales north of red dot that can only be picked up by settling on a plains cows .. that's some crap land there!

[11]2975 BC
Floods take out "routes" near Kyoto.. can only be good!

[12]2950 BC
Warrior pops from Washington and the town grows to size three next turn. Push out another warrior in 7 ish.

bah horses north near japan for one of those "one tile off the coast" towns the AI so loves or one directly south of kyoto. Ugly land up there.

Dispatch Jezebel (the Warrior just built) directly towards the stone to see what the land there is like.

Benny has just a few more tiles to scout in the east and a lion comes to disrupt the party grr.

[13]2925 BC
BW in 3, warrior in 4, growth in 12. Cows coming online next turn.

[14]2900 BC
Benny manages to run into the woods to bait the lion. Go Benny!!!!

Move over porky, BEEF is in!

Growth in 6.

[15]2875 BC
Lion doesn;t attack so Benny is just running for his life west. That coastal desert tile can be damned.

BW next turn, oh the moment of truth.

[16] 2850 BC
Yay

oh no... there is no copper anywhere in the known world other than that desert tile just north east a bit of the the gold...

Ok well I put it on wheel in 10ish just to pass the tech choice screen for the hopeful copper plunk sound...

So yes we need to discuss this.

Warriors all have moves left btw south needs to be scouted yes, will have a 4th warrior out in a moment.

Need to scout south but well 16 turns worth of healing warriors isn;t gonna cover all that ehehe.

Cheers!
-Liq

Looks like a good start! And welcome to N.Green, Cathy avatars are always welcome :)

To me, it looks as if we might be trapped with these two nutcases. We should probably try to take them out (or atleast take Toku out, as he is useless).

Hence: Tundra Warrior goes in for the Marble Punt(tm), if that is still viable. We should probably get some Settlers soon, the HammerTown on Liq's red dot seems fine, other than that, if we are going after Toku, a rush to the hill between northen Cows and Horses might be viable (grabbing Wheat and Silks aswell), forcing Toku to expand to the subpar eastcoast.

With Tokus starting location, he will probably have access to Iron somewhere in the tundra. We should either kill him before it becomes an issue or outtech him until we have the advantage again (xbows vs swords, p.example).

Grover is up and I am on deck :)

Ok. Great job scouting, guys.

Liq says that our capital will either be cottages or GP farm. To me it looks like Washington will have a maximum food surplus of +9 before civil. That's counting farms on the four grass/river tiles and the pigs and the cows. And after civil, the max surplus would be +11 because we pick up two more grass/farms. Is that enough food for a GP farm?

The area to the NE of our capital has lots of green and could eventually run many more specialists, but is necessarily a post-civil project because there is no water nearby. SE just north of the jungle might also be a possibility. 2E1S of the cows, maybe, just north of the jungle, and one tile west of the river. We'd get the cows, and the river would let us build 6 grass/farms before civil. After civil, we could farm everything for a much higher food surplus than we could ever get in Washington, I think.

We need more scouting there, and our warriors will be necessarily heading there as the northern half of our continent has been nicely revealed.

I think I'd dedicate town number two to picking up the stone, however, regardless of what role we assign to Washington and where our GP farm goes. Let's get cranking on those mids.

I know I'm up, but we should discuss before I play. I have work today, and I won't be able to start playing for another 13 hours or so, anyway. So let's take some time to discuss and I can get my turn in tonight.

(edit) Oh yeah...and for tech path, I guess we need archery because we didn't get copper? So is it
wheel > masonry > archery or wheel > archery > masonry, or what?

Grover

ok sorry was dead tired when I posted last night. I only took 16 turns so I can still play.

I included the save so people could open the game up and really look at the tiles.

So hang on grover.

We have to decide on a path here is really what's important.

Silver is going to post a dot map, so until then.

Rough options are grab that copper, grab the horses... well which horses....

Archery is a 17ish turn deviation for not at all much return. If we can skip it altogether, then that works fine.

This game needs discussion.

Cheers!
