Boff-06 Everybody Loves a Well Dressed Man (Meh, Emp, Iceage)

Yellow dot is being used for defensive position only then? It's very conservative to build on the hill. Long term this city suffers a bit and I would actually prefer it on the plains square right next to the ocean, but closer to Nappy. I noticed your leaving a couple tile buffer, is this the "perfect" distance because he cannot dump another city there and you avoid the borders negative dip for longer? If so, my bad and carry on :)

You can snag the gold/rice spot towards Hatty as well with this kind of placement.

Blue dot - It's fine where it is, close to the cap, but if you move it over two squares east, you build on the phants for instant happy, get two more and the gold in the radius. That city site has no food anyways, and the forests lost are close enough to either city to be used for chopping purposes (it is 3 tiles before they become reduced when chopping is it not?)

My proposed builds are more aggressive and I realize that we don't yet have a true means to war, I recommend IW path immediately for metals as there must be something near our borders.
( I think I already know why people will not like my proposed blue dot but I thought I would mention it anyways)

Seems as if the dot map is not as tightly packed this time around which is rare for you guys? Perhaps its just the map. I would get yellow and blue out, path to IW and see where the next cities lay, OR simply make cities 3 and up "neighbor" targets. After all, both Hatty and Nappy are close and their caps will be better than anything you can field yourself.

Ok, try not to laugh at me too much...I am trying my best not to have too many :smoke: moments

Problem with rushing to IW here is that it's going to take a very very long time to finish with only one or two jungle tiles to bother with.

Pottery is less than half the cost of IW in terms of raw beakers and even more in terms of effective beakers since we know all the prerequisites (agriculture, fishing, the wheel).

Never mind that the granaries of pottery are half priced, never mind they make whipping 2x effective... if there's one thing we need from granaries here is to double growth in this food staved land.

Silver left the game in revolt so I cannot see turns hehe.

Cheers!

Thanks Liq.....

I meant to take it after pottery! I just think that w/o ANY metals at this point, IW should be a priority as it would allow the sacking of enemy cities rather easily

Ok turn 14 about 11 barbs punked with massed archers and spears..ug..not looking too bad though there's an archer sitting on the pillaged corn. Robin hood was the total hero as he pretty much saved pony dot.

Pottery comes in and uh writing in 20 IW in 39ish with no real shot at speeding that up any time soon.

Thinking just bite the bullet and hope for IW as

Sh is a pipe dream with all these effing barbs around as no time to make more workers and the one we do have is dodging barbs left and right.

Honestly think raging brabs + a non protective leader in ice age is a mistake as we have NOTHING to leverage speed builds.

Cheers!

Wow, that long for IW, that is a shame! I think its a safe bet to go this route. We would be really screwed if we don't leverage a tech to help the punk the barbs and carve out some territory for ourselves. Very rarely does a map come along that has no access to any metals at all.....

Raging barbs and no GW = pain in the arse, especially if neighbor has wall since the barbs then are forced into another direction.....

dunno if you had time to get RAX built but if not, all those barb punkings should get you some promo's

Honestly think this is a doomed production in that ice age amplifies the barbs while beating down the player.

So far if I had not rolled well in almost all of these fights, we'd be losing troops left and right, with no way to replace them fast. The moment our luck turns against us with a slave revolt or an unlucky combat, we are effed as the barbs never stop flowing in from the north. Talking three barbs attacking pony dot at a time now.

Liq votes reroll without the barbs and pick up barbs next time with a protective leader on a more normal map

Cheers!

Preturn:2350 BC

Proposed pony dot is good to go and settler is almost done.

Currently in anarchy from the slavery revolt so bully for me.

Hank Jr., the fog busting warrior in the east needs to heal his raiming .2 health and then will move him away from hattys land as there's no point shielding her from her fair share of barbs =p

Oh and named the worker =p

Silver had to punk 13 barbs alone his turn set and well axes and spears are about to appear... not sure this is the map script for raging barbs to be honest since we have like no food to leverage.

Only barb seen is near Alen LeMay in the east and well the moment I see something worst than said warrior, he's running for his life to fog bust in a less isolated spot.

[1]2325 BC
Barb Warrior side steps around Alan Lemay and ug, a barb spear pops out of the western fog. Time to run! need an archer to take that hill.

A warrior steps out of the fog from the east as well and is going for us I suppose =p

6 turns still on crappy event anger.

Pottery is looking 12 turns to IW's 36  yah no effing way... keep it going on pottery as we desperately need those granaries up.

Using the ultra HAX Control click to open up trade windows, Nappy has clearly founded Orleans while Hatty is still only at capital.

Settler in 2 the 4 archers in Istanbul who has 6 bogus turns of anger from crap event we cannot afford.

[2]2300 BC
Barb warrior continues on towards istanbul ignoring lemay, sigh.

Move William tell (combat 2) archer out of Istanbul on the way to pony dot... The rest are healing still.

Hank Jr (woods1 warrior) is near pony dot now and no sign of the eastern barb phew.

[3]2275 BC

Alan punks the warrior only to now see effing two spears... uh iok well moving an archer up to the north woods as there's obviously going to be an ENDLESS flood of crap coming from the north. he's down to effing .3 health so ug running back.

The moron AI city placement pos is spot on again...

look how it deftly avoids those Evil jumbos and adroitly hooks up to some valuable tundra! I honestly don;t understand how effing moronic those blue circles are, it's like they purposely try and get the player to settle in craptastic locations just for giggles.

I hem and haw about the build in Istanbul and notice 4 turns left on the event anger. Hmm so slot in a 3 turn archer as I pushed out the door the newly healed Robin Hood (combat 1) on the way to pony dot.

[4]2250 BC
Hatty pops a town and spear moves closer.. Ford is NE of the corn to head that spear off.

[5]2225 BC
Spear attacks Harris Ford who wins with 3.9 strength left and a promo... I go hills as he;s going to be busting some fog in the north.

Found Pony Dot and Chagrin is there cringing from the barbs all around... Honestly see no way to chop Stone henge here the worker is cowering in the SW corner just trying to complete the road and still getting moved off by various barbs. Add to all that we need more military to fog bust and escort hehe.. I don;t see it as feasible.

science at 80%

A wounded nappy archer is poking around as well. good to see those fools are getting hit.

[6]2200 BC
Fred Bear pops in Istanbul and the west spear is about to jump on the roaded mine, move him over to defend. Push a barracks so I can 2 pop whip it next turn and put the overflow into a worker if no one dies =/

Also barb spear pops in the east to attack pony dot.. have robin hood and William Tell there + Hank jr. who's going to be mini fog busting the south soon. These spears are ugly without axes.

[7]2175 BC
Wow, the barb spear attacks the new archer Fred Bear who is flawless, only got 1 xp out of it but hmm will keep him on that mine til border expansion.

Barb Spear maybe warrior is about to attack pony dot, should be ok with hank and William tell there. Robin Hood just got there as well so np. Just hop more more barbs show up for a bit.

Huh barracks is only 4 turns now that we can work the mine, no whip here then as growth is pretty much stalled doing this.

Barb warrior is adjacent to Mr. ford as well... lets hope he attacks.

[8]2150 BC
uh this is bad.

Spear Takes William Tell down to .7 strength though the warrior runs away, 2 effing barb archers pop out of the fog and are coming at pony dot and that warrior is still close. Move hank jr. back into pony.

Barb warrior in the NW is aiming for the corn, ford can easily punk him.

[9]2125 BC
Fred in the south punks an eastern warrior for free exp (3/2) While Ford in the north is attacked by that warrior.

Pony dot now has to contend with 2 archers and 1 barb warrior... with william hurt... oh man come on Robin Hood save us.

[10]2100 BC
Holy Crap!

Robin hood beats down BOTH barb archers while a gravely wounded William Tell exps off the warrior! Is Robin is down to .9 health but what an effing hero.

ok so yay for Istanbul popping it's borders..

Mass nearby fog is busted. Warriors are going to fog bust the SE then.

[11]2075 BC
Barb archer appears between Istanbul and pony dot... no idea which way it's going to go. Hill promoted Ford pops next to a Barb archer in the NW as well

Barracks finishes in Istanbul onto another archer.

[12]2050 BC
Ford takes out the archer and another pops up on Lemays old hill... joy. Down to 2.1 health.

Barb archer is making a beeline for the corn of course and since it's on the other side of the river , I really cannot defend it. need a chariot jsut to punk crap landing on that corn. Also need to place an archer up on that hill where all the effing barbs are coming from.

Well trade from pony to capital is done so uh can get to chariots before the barbs take the road out.

[13]2025 BC
Uh 2 archer in the NW now and an archer on the corn with no tools to protect it.

[14]2000 BC
Ford punks one of those archers and the other doesn;t move closer... ok well he's up to 8 exp and at 1.8 strength.... he'll run away if that archer comes closer hehe.

Pottery comes in and screen doesn;t take, joy... I'll pause here actually since next tech of writing or IW are so far far away its ugly.

20 turns on writing and 39 on IW... Honestly I don;t see this game as doable as we cannot really afford to whip anything to counter the endless flood of barbs hehe

11 barbs in 14 turns btw no losses.

Oh and Welcome loki!

Cheers!

Sounds a lot like immortal barbs....
Raging barbs certainly are interesting on higher difficulties

Anyway I would recommend getting out some fogbusters on hills and promote em along gorilla line, then let the barbs settle down, that usually does the trick

Blue dots are... well blue dots, just treat them like the first works of a precocious artist, "Very good honey, we will put that right there on the fridge where EVERYONE can see it." ;)

Forgot to mention that there's a chop in 3ish that needs to go into a granary in pony dot... it was on a slow monument in the meantime so we could get to pottery.

Oh for a roster hehe..

Loki <---- up a liq guesses!
DE (when he's officially back)

Pretty much 15ish turn rounds right now as it's all out war with clubs and sharpened bones.

Next town is one west of rice in the south soonish since the south is well fog busted it can deal with a single archer as a garrison.

Cheers!

Haven't looked at anything except the dotmap yet. I have one comment:

move yellow dot one west

-it grabs the Fish that way, and we need food on this map!

(actually, it trades a lake (3F) for a Fish (6F). Should be moved anyway, imo)

Yeah, Yellow Dot is very debatable in any case. Where it is right now is for extra defense. It could also go 1N to pick up the gold. 1W gets fish. Confusing. :crazyeye:

I'm not too keen on moving it to get the fish because Orange dot will probably be using them.

well idea here is our commerce is utter and complete crap so one west of the rice nets it the gold. That's a compelling reason that well cannot be ignored. One west of the rice also picks up 2 lake tiles which will be lighthoused meaning that and the irrigated rice, the town is good for food. 3 food tiles are so effing rare on this map

Stone town is completely dead in the water without the fish and with them isn't complete crap filler at all, it has the food to be hammers.

So yeah one west of the rice seems best.

Oh and you so missed the fun DE, Amphibious Conqs hopping off transports and wiping Alex off the face of the earth... attacko would approve!

Cheers!
-Liq

I agree with 1W of rice, will attempt to settle that during my set as well as get some sort of anti-barb fogbusting setup going...

Expect to play it tonight when family is gone, another quick duck into my room to check forums is successful :goodjob:

Uh, DE, not sure if you looked at the settings, but this is an Ice Age map. Cities are supposed to be starving and it is a rare gem if they are not. These maps are so food poor that the normal rules about having 2 food resources per city don't apply.

1W of rice means we can work the rice (after IW of course) and the two lake tiles for a total of 13 food with 3 citizens working. That's more than enough food for a decent city early on, and we'll get to farming the grasslands later. We basically need the 7 commerce from the gold.

Leaving Orange Dot for fish means we are raking in 9 food at size 2; can easily work some mines in the area, and even cottage/workshop the plains. Heck, water tiles are worth working on a map like this, if only for the commerce!

If food was a huge concern, Edirne should have been more scary as it completely lacks a food resource.

 I go skiing one day and two more pages! :goodjob:

I marked some cities in the attached save for input in dotmap. I still think gold should be our next city :). IW next makes sense for metal units and for the rice/gold city. I guess we can't be defenseless in raging barb...

About close borders penaltie: I think if you put culture on eight tiles or more of the AI, you will get it, but not too sure of this one, a code reader could help us there :mischief:...

I am a little short of time this week end and can't comment more , sorry about that.

@Liq: repeat after me: ras... kol.. ni... kov... not a vodka, not a weapon, but a Dostoievski character
Cheers

so you mean r ..r ..r wtf/>?

yeah that works, playing Cathy (Psycho Chicks are the best!) and man all the V and Y make a liq cry..

yek yar yak vla  make it stop!!!! I see why Cathy feels compelled to spam towns now, she just want to get to the cities with easily remembered names like Smolensk.

On account mr rrryak is not hip to dot mapping I guess

my questions are as so...
How the heck are we going to get blue dot? Can we expect to blitz that before nappy does and if not, do we REALLY want to not have at least one of those fish before we have to beat down nappy?

Last idea is... omgz all those grass tiles are lost!!!

Silvers was

Which assumed the following...

No way in hell can we nail blue dot.

Grass tiles are the only place we can run cottages in this polar pit.

Never mind where yellow was, move it up one tile as it was a 50 50 thing to begin with.

hehe

Cheers!
