I'm curious what boilerplate strategies do people go for. I've found myself beelining gathering in hopes of a starting resource, next is shelter building beeline, then spiked clubs, and finally a beeline for cultural identity for that sweet +25% :science: building.

I generally go for persistence hunting, stone tool work shop, shelter building, cultural identity, then beeline hunting tactics, which puts me 2 techs from tribalism.

After Tribalism I pick up Raft building then usually head more or less for sedentary lifestyle

Sometimes i decide to go for shamanism (obtainable on immortal, not on deity) and if I see horses I might beeline Tengriism after tribalism.

I havent played in a couple versions so not sure if this still works as well.

One early tip:
I think most know food on your first worked tile is useless and i suspect many go for hammers. I go for commerce. Getting a 4 commerce tile early on makes you tech like crazy in the early game.

The 25% :science: is Elder Council.

I usually play Snail.
I usually go for Production first.
So Alpha Male -->Alpha Female-->Lichen Gatherer.

Then my next step is to reduce Disease/Health and raise Food.

I try to aim for Oral Tradition first to hunt animals to get Myth Buildings that give :science:
