An idea - make it so that fighters can be attached to bombers (just like how great generals can be attached to other units). Give the "new" unit a bonus for defence against interception, or whatever.

Air Patrol is the usual intercept mission. It's the Air Escort mission that would be new..

Are you asking which one we'd like to have in the game, either Air Patrol OR bomber escort? If so, I don't think you could play the game without standard interception.

If you're asking whether we should have bomber escort at all, well you know my answer on that one! You already added Fighter Engage after I suggested it to you. I think bomber escort would be another excellent addition!

I think he's pointing out that with this, you'll be able to select what form of defense you want. So he's saying: In the game, you'll now be able to choose air patrol or bombing escort.

    Cool. I'm all for it.

I'm surprised he's asking this question in this thread rather than DCM. Sounds like he's pretty busy right now.

Basically I wanted to know if what I proposed was an acceptable method to implement it. :)

So, my proposal is to have another air mission (Air escort) that is similar to Air patrol in that fighters circle the city, but are used for bomber escort, not intercepts. :)

If you have another idea, let me know.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. That's fine. Is there a way to eyeball which fighter flies what mission?

Could be that the escort fighter with the same range as bomber intercepts enemy interceptors, in civ3 it happends....

It's likely that fighter ranges are less than many of the bombing missions, in which case the fighter escort does not apply.

Sure Dale idea its perfect even so i presume de escort fighter must have the same range as bomber.

Now i would like ask if it is possible do something for automate actions, repeat last command or mime what else. I see mayself spent lots of time doing the same comands many turns to same and many units, like recon, bombard etc, for ships it was great too repeat a given patch for coast patrolling for exemple...sory the offtopic

It wouldn't have to have the same range of the bomber. It would just have to be within range of the targetted plot. In fact, during WWII, fighters that couldn't last the whole flight, would escort the bombers as far as they could and then the bombers would be on their own for the rest of the flight... that was partly why it became essential to develop new fighters that could have the same sort of range the bombers were capable of.

And also in WWII some fighter escorts would meet their bombers halfway into the mission just before entering enemy territory.

So yes, no need to be in the same plot as bomber nor same range. Just as long as it can reach the bomber's target plot where it gets intercepted.
