Is it just me or have the last few months been very boring news-wise?

It's been booooring yes.

Although I kept myself occupied with FIFA Manager, Europa Universalis, and Modding WWM for EU3

There have just been presidential elections in Romania last week, so for us it was anything BUT boring. If anything, I didn't have enough time to read everything I would have liked to...

Tell me about it. What we need is a good invasion.

Moar waaaar.

Budget tomorrow should be interesting.

The flooding has been keeping us busy here.

If by interesting you mean financially crippling... for me and my collegaues anyway.

did you see Pat Kenny last night BTW?

You gotta put more details on that than. :) I'm interested in what happened.

Depends. While there's little tragedies here and there, and a few pieces of legislation here and there... nothing major seems to have really happened. :(

I believe we need more carnage. Obviously, the countries some think are "evil" aren't evil enough! Why aren't missiles flying and shortly after being accompanied by dismembered body parts flying everywhere?! Why isn't every inch of this floating dirtball coated with red?!

*cough*

...Or, a bit less crazily, we could use something - or someone - generally new. All the major governments - at least the ones I hear about - haven't really shifted yet, and all the big faces are pretty much the same(Chavez, Putin, Brown, Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il, Hu Jintao, etc.). Despite all the "international tensions" some of the leaders here have, there seems to be more talk than action. When is an epic invasion going to happen where we can play one of the various remixes of Hell March? (I cast my votes for America vs. Mexico, China vs. Russia, and Britain + Russia vs. EU. OOoo. And a new Korean War.)

Or once more, something more sane, and simply a breakthrough. The past year has seen many breakthroughs for gay rights, for instance, but until the USA shoves states' rights down the homophobes' throats and force-legalises gay marriage across the country, I can't really call anything a "breakthrough."

While hoping for peaceful events of awesomeness, I cheer for violent ones of awesomeness. I want to see some government toppled and such carnage the French Revolution fails to compare. Something new, something interesting, no more of this, "x soldiers killed in country y" or "leader x threatens/insults country y" stuff.

Yes - religious making excuses and saying we need to go back to traditional values (if we just loved christ priests wouldn't abuse kids) and younger people saying separate the church and state.

I also found it hilarious when yer one claimed it was all the fault of pjorn being too readily available and then floundering when it was pointed out most of this happened in the 50s... I say hilarious, I mean heart-burstingly infuriating

It was the tightest presidential race in Romania ever (yes, ever - there were no real presidential elections during the Communism, and before that, it was a Monarchy), with one candidate winning with 50.3% of the votes and the "predicted winner" changing every hour, in the day of the election.

I thought about starting a thread, but I thought nobody would be interested. If you want, I can easily provide more details about this. :)

Is the result being investigated? Looked a bit fishy to me...

Yeah, it's being investigated, but every result of a presidential election I can remember has been investigated, so it's not exactly something new. The Romanian diaspora made the difference in the end, the votes of whom, being announced one day later, were not included in the final counts of the actual day of voting in Romania. Therefore, the other candidate already declared himself a winner, only to find out the next day that the Romanians abroad (which constitute quite a percentage of the Romanian citizens today) voted overwhelmingly in favor of the incumbent president, making just the difference needed for a very tight win.

It's good to catch a break from 13 months ago when I was filled with November Election coverage and Great Depression hysteria.

I kind of wish we had more news of firefighters rescuing kittens from trees. And perhaps 6th graders winning science fairs. And maybe local beauty pageant winners. Stuff like that.

Honestly, I'd prefer Russia and the UK vs the EU.

Theres been lots of stuff I've been following in the news recently thats quite interesting, mostly:

Lisbon treaty coming into effect
Swiss minarets ban
Afghanistan reinforcement
Ireland/France World Cup
Floods (local stuff)
Public sector strikes
