Well I guess with fishing, the catch tends to be the fish. Hopefully, lots of big ones if you're good at fishing.

A ha! A hint. Clamming is not fishing.

Lol! But in Civilization, clamming and fishing are done with fishing boats and are therefore exactly the same thing!

(To avoid any doubt, my post was entirely a response to what I thought was your rather clever pun between fishing and catch. You can't read anything about the BOTM 142 map into it).

btw Alan has done the Mac saves, so the Mac saves will now be available at the same time as the PC saves.

I was wondering about that, too. This is supposed to be a cold climate, so there can't be that much jungle, can there? If we wander out into the fog, might we find the land of milk and honey? Or, since we know that our mapmaker is evil, has he stuck us on an island that is all jungle, with all of our riches piled up around our starting position? He's taken pity on us by giving us fishing--is that an admission that his evil had gone too far or is that a further lure keep us in place and away from the better city sites? :undecide:

Based on Rule #1: Never trust a mapmaker, we know you last statement is probably a lie...ergo, this is clearly more devious and treacherous than any of us first imagined.

If we wander out of the fog, maybe we would find the land of ice and snow.

I was planning to fish instead of clams. But both clams are lake clams and only one fish is. So fish site has better health but not more food.
Production is lacking in both, nice that slavery is on path to iron.

    Pre-lighthouse:
    2 lake clams = 2@5f2c = 10f4c
    1 lake fish = 6f2c+5f1c = 11f3c

Another possibility is settling on the sugar for a 3f1h2c city center, 1 fish and 2 clams. Problem is, doesn't appear to have coastal access, so no lh.

Btw, DS, my daughter lives near London and likes to do interesting things. If you give me a brief and enticing description of the play, I'll pass it along to her.

You may want to look again at the starting screenshot and try to work out how you would get a workboat from a sugar city to the fish! (And more generally, everyone: When planning where you settle your capital, do think about whether it is possible to sail workboats from the city to wherever you want them to go!)

Thanks! Will send you a PM.

Simple. Just tech ahead to build forts and sail a WB through. :hmm: Might delay developing the water resource somewhat though...

Sugar is pretty sweet (pun intended) with all that food. You should be able to build workboats (but not lighthouses) there. (testing confirms)
But no production at all and settle on turn 3. It looks like plains and not jungle above line of jungle in screenshot, we will see.

I'm thinking city1 at warrior; city2 between silvers; city3 N of gems (for clam and gems) - that gets all screenshot resources.
Alternatively SIP and city2 on dye also gets all resources (except gems, so north city sometime; guess no hurry before ironworking).
Maybe city3 is production city. Cities1&2 :whip:

IIRC, you can camp elephants before IW/jungle removal.

Anyone interested in a not official victory condition?
Like we had before with space or so.

It's a very strong..area ofc, after IW so not overly challenging without comparing games imo as it's also Prince.

I know better than to go toe to toe with the warrior queen... so, anything but space for me. :queen:

My suggestion: Lay down your recommended Victory Condition. In the past, we just needed someone to step forward and decide.

Then, the players who are interested in competing can do so.

The players who don't want to compete but are quite content to receive an Award that some of the more competitive players were not going for (the "Hit them where they weren't competing" mentality) can also feel happier about intentionally avoiding said Victory Condition.

In that vein, would it be against the rules of this thread to suggest all the victory conditions I didn't achieve last weekend? :mischief:
