After initially being busy with other things, I finally sat down to a long if uninspiring playing session last weekend. I predict that I'm well on course for earning another "Low Score" awards to add to my collection.

I chose to settle the eastern settler, moving 1E, then settling on the third because I thoughtlessly clicked the End Turn button before moving all of my units on the second turn.

At 1 AD, I have six cities on that continent, and I've finally used the settler on the other continent to build a coastal city next to the iron, before the AI grab all of the land there. I made an attempt at the Oracle, but HC beat me to it in 950 BC. All has been peaceful so far, but HC is plotting, almost certainly against me.

Settled both immediately and tried going for pyramids with the stone. My hut luck was horrendous; some gold would've been really nice but the 3 huts I found popped 2 hostile events and 1 map. That along with the fact I lost pyramids by 1 turn, I lost interest pretty quickly. I wanted to see what you could do by settling both continents immediately since otherwise it's just an easier immortal game where you can do unlimited trades.

One fun thing you could try is spend the 1st 100 turns gifting cities to the ai on the opposite continent and then see if you still catch up and win

This is a great set-up for the specialist economy + GPeople pump:
Gandhi has the right traits. +100% GP output and the ability to switch between caste and slavery whenever needed.without anarchy.
The land fits: stone for mids, lots of forest to compensate for non-productive scientists. Not overly foodrich, so the need for slavery is low.
And we can only expand on one continent (or economically die if you do both, nobody tried that I hope?). This means one city plays as OCC which fits specialists too.

Anyway, the gem site got the capital, 1E of pig. No hut luck, 2 scouts a map and barbs.
I improved the gems first, then settled the other continent PH east of corn. Couldn't find a better spot after 20T looking around. Went Hunt -AH meanwhile.
The maintenance was heavier than the gems could carry, so next city went to the gold, scouts disbanded, put lots of hammers in SH failgold. I stole a worker twice from Huayana.
Went Wheel - Bronze - Poly -PH - Writing - Oracle CoL 1560BC. Pig city and a Fish city west meanwhile (caste artist borderpops follow).
Head for IronW and Calendar so more high commerce can be obtained. Math bulb to speed it up a little. Mids finished 825BC.

At 1AD 10 cities + 56 pop.
GS ready for Machinery, Optics and 1 Astro bulb, 4th GS (or maybe a prophet => golden age) in 9T. Aest in 4T then the bulbs can be executed. Have bulbed Philo too, because I stupidly traded for Meditation. No academy, I spent 80-90% of turns at 0% research. It's getting better though, but I don't think Space is in the cards.....

Settled the plains hill on the western continent and went scouting on the eastern. The idea was to research a couple of worker techs and maybe steal a worker before settling in the east. Found a coastal spot near the Inca capital with ivory, fish and corn and decided to settle. Turned out OK and the city was soon up and running with a worker stolen from Joao. I also managed to oracle CoL before I had too many cities and as planned my eastern city became Holy City. This allowed me to spread religion and get Huyana to Friendly very fast (I was worried about attacks on this continent). After this promising start I made a mistake and went after Saladin before I had catapults and it cost me a lot of units. At 1AD he is still alive with one city.

At 1AD the empire comprises 10 cities but with only 37 pop due to whipping units. Researching Music for the GArtist. Mekka is going to be GS farm soon, but the war has set development back. Not sure how to proceed. Maybe go for domination or conquest when Astro is bulbed.

I settled the gems/pigs site, just to spice things up a bit by knowing beforehand we would not have strategic resources.

On the other continent, I used the units to scout and find neighbors for future tech trading. Lost the CG2 archer to hostiles from the first hut I found. At some point I stole a worker from Saladin (which I regret as I missed a trade partner), but eventually lost it to barbs. At t80, after I had currency (Oracle @t77), alpha etc. I decided to finally found a city near the starting spot but it was short lived, 3 barb axemen razed it to the ground six turns later but I admit I wasn't too sorry for this loss.

But the real action was going on our chosen lands. After some wonder whoring (SH, Oracle, Mids and GLH), at 1AD we have 6 cities, 40 pop and a nice stack of LBs & Cats at Lisbon's doorsteps (would capture it next turn). Planning to conquer Portugal, China and leave Inca for last, hoping he clears at least a bit of the nasty jungle for me. Then I will most likely go for space.

Indeed a nice map and leader to run a specialist economy.

I'll only be submitting an early aborted attempt because I got sloppy and let my unaccompanied settler get hisself killed. I really wanted to try playing this game while keeping him alive so I reloaded and kept going. I settled on the gems continent, 1N of the cows, which picked up another food resource as I recall--quite happy with that shot in the dark. I've peacefully expanded and will double bulb Astronomy in 4 turns once I finish Optics, then do some tech trading to backfill a lot of stuff starting from Meditation. I have 2 forests chopped and waiting to dump in a caravel. Meanwhile, the double-woody archer on the other continent fought bravely but died defending my settler and the other archer from a horde of 4 barb archers. I haven't settled there yet--probably should have a little while ago. The sites I was eyeing are mostly gone, and there's nothing with metal available anymore. I plan to settle on the western shore and then build (or transport from the main continent) a force to take a metal-supplied barb city a little north of there. Not sure yet if I want to take on Joao (or HC?) without metal---longbows and cats/trebs may not be enough, especially against war elephant. Thanks very much for game, DS!
