BOTM 279: Cyrus, Prince - First Spoiler - 1AD

Please enjoy the game as Cyrus of Persia in Prince difficulty level. Huts and Random Events are active, though I did move the huts near your start position to keep the competition somewhat less random. As you can tell by the late start for this game, it was kind of a hurried mapmaker effort. But since you are all starving to play, I was generous in giving you some food. Beware the raging barbarians.

Oh yeah, I said that... well? What's going on?

Use this thread to tell us what happened in your game, up to 1AD

I settled NE where the scout was standing, basically to have some hills available to build the Great Wall.

After finding some clustered huts to the north, made work of finding more and was rewarded with some cash, maps, more scouts and warriors, and nicely some techs, namely BW, AH (which I was 2/3 on the way), Archery and HBR.

The GW was useful of course, the AI were quite hampered by the raging barbs. The Russians lost St Petersburg to barbs, and at 1 AD only the Portuguese and Germans are at 4 cities, the other AIs are still at 2. The HRE is at 1 city, but that had to do more with Persian barbs. :mischief: The remaining HRE city is actually Ulundi, so it seems the Zulu lost their capital to barbs and the HRE probably had a unit just wandering by, seeking refuge for the Burger King. :crazyeye:

I'm at 10 cities myself, 50 pop. I'm running slight negative cash at 0% science, but I can build wealth and research which I'll resume shortly. Tech is up to CS (through Oracle), currency, monarchy (running HR, capital is at size 12), calendar. Contrary to general policy, I built cottages on the riverless grass at the capital to keep research afloat. I also got quite a lucky break popping gold in one of the capital's mines.

Besides GW and Oracle I also built Stonehenge. I started slow building MoM without marble, but I just spotted a source on the northern coast that I might settle next. I should have connection through the river north to Portugal.

Just to enjoy the game a bit more, I think I'll try to go to space.

I settled in place and found it to be a very nice spot, indeed! Thank you, generous mapmaker! :)

I beelined the Great Wall, researching Mining>Masonry>BW, and finishing the GW in 2320 BC. The barbs had not caused any trouble up until this point. Afterwards, they were working for me.

My scout went searching for goody huts. One gave him experience. All of the rest gave me gold--373 gold, if my notes are correct. Not as good as getting some tech, but it helped my research the early tech I wanted, on a map that didn't offer much commerce. When I popped a Great Spy, he went exploring and started finding some more gold in huts.

By 1 AD, I have six cities. In addition to the GW, I built the Oracle for the CS Sling in 250 BC and the Pyramids in 150 BC, after which I switched to Representation and Bureaucracy.

No wars, yet, aside from the barbs, but I'm preparing to attack Shaka.
