Brave New World: New Wonders

I'd like 'The Strip' as a wonder as it avoids naming any brand names of hotels!

In general I feel there could be a few more Industrial or Modern Wonders though, and fewer Western centric ones.... But okay...

How about 'The Strip' instead?
Yeah ok, let's go with that instead then :)

Machu Pichu, Angkor Wat, and Chichen Itza are in the game, so I don't see Berlin Wall as very different.
True, but when there's another possibility I would suggest to use that one. I don't know, but isn't the Berlin Wall only the wall found in Berlin, or is that the entire wall seperating the two blocks?

This thread claims to have revealed all the wonders and Mount Rushmore wasn't one of them. If you think Mount Rushmore is in, that means this thread is wrong, so the idea of Ideology-specific wonders will be based on nothing.
Isn't it just 6 out of the 8 wonders that has more or less been confirmed?

Prora and ISS are supposed to be the last two. Prora is the reason we're discussing ideology-specific wonders.

Just to bump this old thread because of something in the Rev3Games walkthrough video. Basically, it's confirmation that the International Space Station is in fact a World Wonder and not just some project that everyone contributes to (this appears to be distinct from World Fair/World Games).

I think this strongly suggests the article saying the ISS and the Prora were the remaining two wonders.

ETA: Here's a link to the walkthrough. It's about 18 minutes in. You also see him hover over World Games, which shows you how it's different.

The ISS is an interesting new slant on wonder-building and competition/cooperation. I like it a lot.

I wonder how long it takes to construct, and how you know where you stand in the pecking order.

Actually, if people's belief that Prora and Motherland Calls are exclusive ideology wonders, than they are taking Wonders to a whole new level that.. I can't help but disagree with, but hey, it's their game they gonna do what they gonna do.

But I really still hope there's other wonders not revealed and that they don't count the ISS as a wonder.

Well they are adding normal competitive wonders too, so it's not like the old system is gone (it being one of the central features of Civ). But I enjoy them trying something new.

They most certainly are counted since they want the highest possible numbers to tell you. If there was another wonder, they wound have spoken of 10 new wonders, not 9...

I am excited about these contests. I can see a whole remod of the wonders system to make them all work like that.

I am curious as to what exactly the wonder gives, the best we have right now is 2 Free Great Scientist from the Telescope wonder. So What could be greater than a Free scientist? 2 Free Technologies?

Can you elaborate? I'm not sure what you mean by "whole new level" or why you disagree with it?

The tooltip specifically referred to it as a wonder.

Traditionally in main game (except the Wonder of Ancient World) all Wonders are built by you and you only, i.e in a city by production. They are all unlocked by a Technology and availalbe for everybody to built, racing who can get it built first.

With the Space Station, and the theories that Motherland and Prora are ideology exclusive, they are taking wonder construction to a now level.

With SS being built by a Proposal + Race who can give the most production and Motherland and Prora being unlocked by a policy/tenet rather than technology.

I get that it's different. But why is it problematic?

Personally I feel exited about the new approach and I really hope it will be implemented as we speculate (which is still not sure at the current point).

We have already so many wonders that follow the well known scheme. Do we really need more of them? I would love to see some new ideas and fresh concepts! "Hail!" to Firaxis, if they really dared to break the expectations!

And Great People are traditionally made with specialist and points from wonders, but then the General was made from Combat XP (this shift happened in IV, and then V expanded on it with Admirals and prophets from Faith).

Buildings are normally made from researching a technology and then the religious system added Buildings made from choosing a specific belief.

Add a slightly different way to get 3 out of the total wonders isn't too bizarre considering the other systems in Civ have similar exceptions.

I just don't want Prora to be in D: it's so ugly as a building

The creepy austerity of it, contrasted with its intended purpose, makes it interesting to me. Personally, I think the CN Tower is ugly as hell, but it's cool how it's incorporated into the game. Prora is even more flavorful in that regard as an ostensibly Autocrat-oriented tourism producer, and I'd never heard of it, so I can't complain about its presence.

Well, one way or another I'll live with whatever is in the game.

If Prora is as creepy I am hoping that they at least take good care of giving it a creepy music when you build it.

I would love the Belem Tower as a Wonder to give benefits in defense + trades or something.
