Hi all,

I started another game, this time on Emperor. :)

I am playing with the Americans again, huge map, wet, warm, 8 AIs, archipelago, domination limit 4419, roaming barbarians.

I started the game and got a settler from a hut in 3900BC. I made contact with Russia very early and I trade several techs with Caty. In 2750BC I got Monarchy from a hut and in 2030BC I entered the Middle Ages :D

I finished the Pyramids in 1050BC in Boston and by 1000BC I had 35 cities, 6 settlers and more than 30 workers. I stop playing in that turn.

So far it looks great, but there is one problem... I didn't connect any luxury yet. There are only two in the south that I can connect in a few turns and one in the east which will take a little more time to connect.

Here is a minimap:

I will post another update when I reach 10AD... ;)

35 cities in 1000 BC??!?!? Very impressive. MA in 2030 BC?!?! Wow.
Do you think the archipelago setting is the reason for your obscenely high domination limit?
Good luck!

BTW, I can't see your minimap, all I get is a red X....
EDIT: Never mind, I see it now! Nice... :goodjob:

:nono:
That's a bit accusing don't you think?
Bremp played the GOTM for many months and cracker and Aeson never diqualified him for any kind of cheating/reloading. AFAIK he's an honorable and very good player. Let's just believe what he says.

If there's any cheating/excessive reloading going on in HoF games, I'm sure Aeson will deal with it.

Wow! I have never seen a domination limit that high before. How many map have you rejected so far before you get this one? How about a screenshot of your starting location? Are there any bonus food and luxuxy near by? Was it near a river too?

After that Bremp post I ask myself, is there any difference between "Pangaea", "Continents" and "Archipelago" map settings that value somehow on Domination limit. I decide to test that idea. And there are results.

Map settings: Huge, No barbs, 60% water, Wet, Warm, 5 Billion. After 10 attempts on each category Domination limit was:

Pangaea. Min=3543. Max=3917. Average=3736. (100% for example)
Continents. Min=3729. Max=3997. Average=3901 (104,4%)
Archipelago. Min=4065. Max=4422. Average=4295 (114.9%) (!!!)

If we translate Sir Pleb's TopScore from P. to A. we get 60715!

Thanks very much for your test!:) I think the Archipelago map has many other disadvantages but I will test it out in my next game - at Chieftain level may be.

Well, it's is an archipelago map. I rejected a lot of maps before, several of them because I started in a small piece of land. This one is diferent 'cause I started in a huge "island". The expansionist trait helped a lot because I could figure it out earlier.

About food, there are two wheat near my capital and several food bonus around it. When I changed to Monarchy, the first thing I did was rush a granary in New York. I had two "4 turns settler factories" in 2500BC. :)

Here is a screenshot in 2030BC:

Edit: screenshot added

I would fully expect island and continent maps to have a higher domination limit over pangaea simply due to the higher number of coastal tiles. However, considering the burdens they impose on movement of units and the stifling effects they have on wonders like the Pyramids, I really doubt they're worth it.

Depending on the results someone posts though, I could be proven wrong in this assertion.

but bremp is reaping the benefits of archipelago without many of the associated penalties. the "island" looks big enough to almost reach domination limit fully on it and therefore get the blanket effects of the pyramids, js bach and sun tzu.
during the city repositioning phase he will have a chance to overcome all this by devising the shortest path towards cure for cancer/longevity.

keep us posted.

You've got a point there, w-fool. With a big enough island and the right repositioning...

I think it will be a lot more works on the island map but it will be do-able with/without the Pyramids. Since Bremp home island is big enough, he could try to build the Pyramid or encourge his home neighbor to do so. In either case, we could make a lot of settler and worker factory (me thinks 50 of them) and constantly shipping them to the other islands for joining. It's very do-able; we just have to build a lot of transport ships.

@Moonsinger: In the first post Bremp says he's already built the Pyramids in 1050 BC in Boston... :)

Update - 10AD :)

After researching Astronomy, to trade for some luxuries with Persia, France and later England I started researching towards Military Tradition. I expect to get it in 230AD, By that time I will already have Leo's Workshop and probably I will be in my Golden Age.

Here is a screenshot in 90BC when I got access to all 8 luxuries:
